In this paper results and analysis of geomagnetic observations during previous 5 solar eclipses occurred in China are summarized. They are solar eclipses: No. 1, on 19 June 1936 in Heilongjiang of NE China; No. 2, on 21 September 1941 in Fujian; No. 3, on 19 April 1958 in Hainandao; No. 4, on 22 September 1968 in Xinjiang; and No. 5, on 16 February 1980 in Yunnan of SW China. The authors took part in the last 2 expeditions and joint programmes in the track of totality.The methods of evaluation for eclipse effects on the geomagnetic field are briefly described both for the quiet and disturbed days. The discussion of these data is made with reference to Chapman's theoretical consideration on optical eclipse effect, together with the quiet-day overhead current systems in the upper atmosphere. We conclude that optical eclipse effects are easily observable under favourable conditions, and further observations are essential to establish the yet unknown effects due to corpuscular eclipses.  相似文献

In the past, there have been reports of the observation of decrease in the flux of secondary cosmic γ-rays during a total solar eclipse. We have measured the flux of secondary cosmic γ-rays during the total solar eclipse that occurred at Novosibirsk in Russia, on 1 August 2008. Highly sensitive measurements were carried out by using a detector system with built-in redundancy. The system consisted of two independent, large volume NaI(Tl) scintillator detectors for sensitive and reliable measurements. The data display significant variability in the flux of secondary γ-rays in the energy range 50–4600 keV. Just prior to the total solar eclipse a change ∼9% in the flux was observed, followed by a small but steady decrease ∼4% during the eclipse. The temporal variation in the observed flux of γ-rays were found to be nearly identical for the two detectors. The energy dependence of the variation was further studied by binning the yield in three energy ranges, namely, 100–200, 200–400 and 400–4600 keV. The nearly identical time variation observed in the two independent measurements provides confidence that the measured variation is real and not an artifact of the instrumentation. Systematic observations during the future eclipses are required to study this fascinating phenomenon which is not yet understood.  相似文献

Solar diameter measurements have been made nearly continuously through different techniques for more than three centuries. They were obtained mainly with ground-based instruments except for some recent estimates deduced from space observations. One of the main problems in such space data analysis is that, up to now, it has been difficult to obtain an absolute value owing to the absence of an internally calibrated system. Eclipse observations provide a unique opportunity to give an absolute angular scale to the measurements, leading to an absolute value of the solar diameter. However, the problem is complicated by the Moon limb, which presents asphericity because of the mountains. We present a determination of the solar diameter derived from the total solar eclipse observation in Turkey and Egypt on 29 March 2006. We found that the solar radius carried back to 1 AU was 959.22±0.04 arcsec at the time of the observations. The inspection of the compiled 19 modern eclipses data, with solar activity, shows that the radius changes are nonhomologous, an effect that may explain the discrepancies found in ground-based measurements and implies the role of the shallow subsurface layers (leptocline) of the Sun.  相似文献

作为“夏商周断代工程.天再旦”研究的一部分,讨论带食而出的天光变化.用照相机测光的方法测定正常日出前后的天光变化规律,建立带食而出的天光视亮度变化计算方法,并给出计算“天再旦”现象的范围和强度的方法.为此于1997年3月9日在新疆组织了群众性的日食观测.实测证实带食而出的确可以引起“天再旦”现象,同时与理论计算有很好的符合.  相似文献

Performing the photometric observations of the cataclysmic variable IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0, we discovered very deep eclipses. The observations were obtained over 14 nights, had a total duration of 56 hours and covered one year. The large time span, during which we observed the eclipses, allowed us to measure the orbital period in IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0 with high precision, \(P_{\mathrm{orb}}=0.20603098\pm 0.00000025\) d. The prominent parts of the eclipses lasted \(0.1\pm 0.01\) phases or \(30\pm 3~\mbox{min}\). The depth of the eclipses was variable in the range 1.8–2.9 mag. The average eclipse depth was equal to \(2.42\pm 0.06~\mbox{mag}\). The prominent parts of the eclipses revealed a smooth and symmetric shape. We derived the eclipse ephemeris, which, according to the precision of the orbital period, has a formal validity time of 500 years. This ephemeris can be useful for future investigations of the long-term period changes. During the latter four observational nights in 2017 January, we observed the sharp brightness decrease of IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0 by 2.3 mag. This brightness decrease imitated the end of the dwarf nova outburst. However, the long-term light curve of IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0 obtained in the course of the Catalina Sky Survey during 8 years showed no dwarf nova outbursts. From this we conclude that IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0 is a novalike variable. Moreover, the sharp brightness decrease, which we observed in IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0, suggests that this novalike variable belongs to the VY Scl-subtype. Due to very deep eclipses, IPHAS J051814.33+294113.0 is suitable to study the accretion disc structure using eclipse mapping techniques. Because this novalike variable has the long orbital period, it is of interest to determine the masses of the stellar components from radial velocity measurements. Then, our precise eclipse ephemeris can be useful to the phasing of spectroscopic data.  相似文献

The results of the white-light polarization measurements performed during three solar eclipses (1973, 1980, 1991) are presented. The eclipse images were processed and analysed by the same technique and method and, consequently, the distributions of the polarization and coronal intensity around the Sun were obtained in unified form for all three solar eclipses. The mutual comparisons of our results, and their comparison with the distributions found by other authors, allowed the real accuracy of the current measurements of the white-light corona polarization, which is not worse than ±5%, to be estimated. We have investigated the behaviour of the polarization in dependence on heliocentric distance in helmet streamers and coronal holes. Simultaneous interpretation of the data on polarization and intensity in white-light helmet streamers is only possible if a considerable concentration of coronal matter (plasma) towards the plane of the sky is assumed. The values obtained for the coronal hole regions can be understood within the framework of a spherically symmetrical model of the low density solar atmosphere. A tendency towards increasing polarization in coronal holes, connected with the decrease of the hole's size and with the transition from the minimum to the maximum of the solar cycle, was noticed. The problem of how the peculiarities of the large-scale coronal structures are related to the orientation of the global (dipole) solar magnetic field and to the degree of the goffer character of the coronal and interplanetary current sheet is discussed briefly.  相似文献

The inner white-light corona (up to 2 solar radii) can only be observed during total solar eclipses. New mathematical methods of the corona image processing and digital photo cameras or CCD cameras allow us to detect very faint structures (of a few arcseconds) in this part of the corona, even from images taken with relatively small telescopes (1–2 meters in the focal length). In the present paper we will discuss such structures as observed during the last few solar eclipses, mainly those of 2001 and 2006. Obtained results show that the white-light corona is highly structured not only in the sense of a variety of different types of its classical “objects”, e.g., polar plumes, helmet streamers, threadlike streamers, etc, but also within these objects themselves. Voids, loops, radial and non-radial threads, and other yet-undefined dark structures (“empty space”?) are well visible especially inside helmet streamers. This strongly indicates that the classical picture of the corona characterized by a hydrostatic distribution of density and temperature is no longer a sufficient assumption. It is magnetic forces that play a dominant role in shaping and structuring this part the corona. Given a remarkable similarity between the EUV corona as observed by SOHO and the white-light corona observed by us during the above-mentioned eclipses up to two solar radii. We suggest that the “missing” observations of the white-light corona should be replaced by those of the EUV one. Moreover, the last eclipse’s observations also indicate that the knots of some prominences extend well into the white-light corona. So, the next total eclipses of the Sun, of 1 August 2008 and 22 July 2009, offer an excellent opportunity for preparing joint observations for space-borne and ground-based eclipse teams.  相似文献

The gamma ray flux was measured during the annular solar eclipse on January 15, 2010 at Rameswaram, India using NaI (Tl) scintillator detectors and the variation in charged particles and gamma rays was monitored using Geiger Mu¨ller (GM) counters. The gamma ray flux variation was studied in energy range of 0.1–3.5 MeV. Weather parameters (temperature and humidity) were continuously recorded throughout the duration of the eclipse at the site and correlation between gamma ray flux and weather parameters was examined. Analysis of the secondary cosmic ray flux using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) was carried out to study the impact of the eclipse on the flux modulation. An overall decrease in flux was observed by both GM counters and scintillator detectors. A relative enhancement observed for short time during the eclipse which could be associated with the presence of counter electrojet observed at Rameswaram. This is suggestive of an increase in secondary cosmic ray flux at the geomagnetic equator during every counter electrojet due to decrease in geomagnetic rigidity.  相似文献

Imaging and spectroscopy of the solar corona, coupled with polarimetry, are the only tools available at present to capture signatures of physical processes responsible for coronal heating and solar wind acceleration within the first few solar radii above the solar limb. With the recent advent of improved detector technology and image processing techniques, broad-band white light and narrow-band multi-wavelength observations of coronal forbidden lines, made during total solar eclipses, have started to yield new views about the thermodynamic and magnetic properties of coronal structures. This paper outlines these unique capabilities, which until present, have been feasible primarily with observations during natural total solar eclipses. This work also draws attention to the exciting possibility of greatly increasing the frequency and duration of solar eclipse observations with Moon orbiting observatories utilizing lunar limb occultation of the solar disk for coronal measurements.  相似文献

Total solar eclipses are rare events, but the publicity surrounding them is generating a lot of interest. These events can be used to popularize astronomy and promote science awareness. The internet is gaining popularity as a medium to view eclipses remotely as is evidenced by the number of websites devoted to the 2001 solar eclipse. More internet webcasts are needed to meet the demand that these events generate. The attempt by a team from the Astronomy Department at the University of South Africa to broadcast a streaming video of the 21 June 2001 total eclipse from Lusaka on the internet are described. All the necessary equipment is commercially available. Lessons learnt from this eclipse can be used to prepare for future events. The total solar irradiance varies over a solar cycle of 11 years and maybe over cycles of longer periods. Is the solar diameter variable over time too? A discussion of the solar diameter and its variations must be linked to the limb darkening function (LDF). We introduce a new method to perform high-resolution astrometry of the solar diameter from the ground, through the observations of eclipses, using the luminosity evolution of Baily’s bead and the profile of the lunar edge available from satellite data. This approach unifies the definition of the solar limb with the inflection point of LDF for eclipses and drift-scan or heliometric methods. The method proposed is applied for the videos of the eclipse on 15 January 2010 recorded in Uganda and in India. The result suggests reconsidering the evaluations of the historical eclipses observed with the naked eye.  相似文献

By using a high-precision LaCoste-Romberg gravimeter, continuous and precise measurements were carried out during the March 9, 1997 total solar eclipse in Mohe region in Northeast China. The gravity variations were digitally recorded during the total solar eclipse so as to investigate the possible anomaly of the Sun and the Moon's gravitational fields on the Earth. After the careful processing and analysis of the observed data, no significant anomaly during the very solar eclipse was found. However, there are two ‘gravity anomaly valleys’ with near symmetrical decrease of about 6 ∼ 7 μg at the first contact and the last contact. This is the anomaly phenomenon observed and reported for the first time in the literature. This paper is intended to explain the observed anomaly by conducting the tilt experiment due to the thermal stress and temperature change in the solar eclipse. A new constraint limit on gravitational shielding is thus obtained. Some analysis and discussions are presented although further studies and research are highly needed. We measured the brightness of the white light corona at the total solar eclipses on 1 August 2008 and 22 July 2009, when solar activity was at its lowest in one hundred years. After careful calibration, the brightness of the corona in both eclipses was evaluated to be approximately 0.4×10?6 of the total brightness of the Sun, which is the lowest level ever observed. Furthermore, the total brightness of the K+F-corona beyond 3R in both eclipses is lower than some of the previous measurements of the brightness of the F-corona only. Our accurate measurements of the coronal brightness provide not only the K-corona brightness during a period of very low solar activity but also a reliable upper limit of the brightness of the F-corona.  相似文献

Using the sudden ionospheric disturbance (SID) monitor provided by the Stanford University, the very low frequency (VLF) signals were observed in Nanjing during the total solar eclipse on 22nd July 2009. It is found that the intensity of the VLF signal varied anomalously during the total solar eclipse, exhibiting the effect similar to the sunrise and sunset, and that the intensity of the VLF signal strongly fluctuated, exhibiting the effect similar to thunderbolts. Moreover, the signal intensity enhanced in short periods both before and after the total eclipse. Based on the discussion on the reliability of the observed data and the comparison with the previous observations, it is found that the ionosphere exhibits some variations previous to the total solar eclipse.  相似文献

Ground measurements of the geomagnetic field, during the total solar eclipse of July 11, 1991, were carried out at three sites in Costa Rica located within the eclipse's path of totality. Near totality, there was a significant change in the total intensity,F. Its normal decrease in the afternoon hours was interrupted during a period of about 45 min, in whichF varied very little. This was due mainly to a small variation in horizontal intensity,H, during such a period. The departure ofF from normal lasted about 100 min; its maximum departure was near 10 nT and occurred about 38 min after totality, The declination,D, also experienced a small change (about 2.3 min) during the total period of the eclipse. We present our photometric observations of the T Tauri star H 187. They confirm our conclusion that a new extended eclipse has begun in this young object. By the end of 2005, H 187 reached its minimum light following which its brightness began to slowly increase. Comparison with the previous ~3.5-yr-long eclipse observed by Cohen et al. shows that the new eclipse follows the previous eclipse fairly closely and, hence, it was caused by a second passage of the same extended dust or gas-dust cloud around the object. We have estimated the period between these events to be 4.7 yr. The object reddened during the eclipse, suggesting that the extinction was produced by small grains ~0.1μm in size. Possible mechanisms of such unusual eclipses are discussed. We draw an analogy between these eclipses and the cycles of photometric activity observed in UX Ori stars. Light curves similar to those observed for H 187 are shown to be obtained in the model of a young binary system with a low-mass companion accreting matter from the remnants of a protostellar cloud at a rate of ~10?9 M yr?1.  相似文献
