Identifications of 5CI radio sources with optical objects are given. The identification rates amount to 44 and 30 per cent up to the limiting magnitude of about 21m in R and B, respectively. The objects are to about equal parts galaxies, blue starlike objects, and “unclassified objects” (presumably mostly faint galaxies and less pronounced blue objects). For every proposed identification a reliability and for the identification samples the reliability and the completeness are given. Some inaccuracies in the use of a statistical method, proposed in a previous paper, have been removed; two additional means of statistical treatment have been applied to discuss the data.  相似文献

This paper presents a statistical investigation of 999 blue objects [U(–B) 0.00, limiting magnitude U = 20, B = 21], the majority of which is newly discovered on M31-plates (predominantly taken by F. Börngen ) of the large Schmidt telescope of the Karl Schwarzschild Observatory Tautenburg. A list of the objects is given elsewhere [G. A. RICHTER (1973)].For “very blue objects” [(U – B) -0.40] the number per square degree brighter than magnitude B is as follows: log NB = 0.72 B -13.1 (starlike objects), log NB = 0.63 B -12.0 (diffuse and probably diffuse objects). This confirms the results of other authors: log NB increases more rapidly than in the case of constant density (0.6); there are about 10 QSOs brighter than B = 20 per square degree. A detailed discussion concerning the optical identification of discrete radio sources will soon be given.  相似文献

We present UBVIC photometry of starlike objects in the central region of NGC 3077. The colour‐colour and colour‐magnitude diagrams of the objects are discussed. Many of the objects under consideration, starlike from the ground, are probably dense young star clusters (super star clusters, SSC). Ages spreading over ∼4 to ∼150 Myr are estimated for most of these objects. Sakai and Madore (2001) found enhanced star formation ∼30–125 Myr ago also in the halo of this galaxy; thus, high star forming activity has occurred within the entire galaxy (centre and halo) since ∼130…150 Myr. Having ended in the outer regions about 30 Myr ago, it is going on near the centre with full vigour. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Photographic photometry and objective prism spectroscopy has been performed for most of the objects near 5C1 radio sources brighter than 19m.6 discussed by NOTNI and FRöHLICH (1975). Updated samples of identification candidates are presented. The mean reliability of the identifications is better than 90% for blue starlike or concentrated objects and 67% for galaxies. In addition, a few bright galactic stars seem to occur among the radio sources.  相似文献

A new sample of local, active extragalactic objects has been compiled: a combined sample that is the sum of two samples, of Sy1 galaxies and of quasars from Markarian's survey and quasars from the Bright Quasar Survey. A log N(<B)-B relation is constructed for the new sample of active galaxies, limited to the apparent stellar magnitude B = 15 m .5. It can be represented by a straight line with a slope = 0.60 ± 0.06. It is a good extension, without a noticeable jog, of the analogous relationship for the Hamburg—ESO survey, which has a slope = 0.59 ± 0.04. The combined surface density of bright active galaxies and quasars down to B = 15 m .5 is 0.01 per square degree.  相似文献

We present CCD VIC photometry in a field 1.9 − 1.3 square arcmin and positioned about 3 arcmin north-east of the centre of M82. More than 100 stars have been identified and measured above the photometric limits V = 23m.5, I = 22m. Most of the objects fainter than V ≈︁ 20m should be members of M82 as expected from the statistics of foreground stars. Starlike as well as 2–3 somewhat diffuse objects - candidates of globular clusters - preferentially occupy yellow colours in the colour-magnitude diagram; extreme blue and red objects are missing. The colour-magnitude diagram indicates continuing star formation in this part of the disk. The absence of blue stars is caused by reddening; no convincing explanation is found for the missing red supergiants. Young stars are distributed throughout the whole field, the youngest being concentrated in associations at the SW edge of the field. To cope with the very irregular background created by the galaxy' s main body and with the low contrast of many of the stars against this background, a modified photometric method is introduced in which the background is estimated using the intensities in a ring drawn very tightly around the star in the wings of the point spread function.  相似文献

We present a list of 412 faint galaxies selected for their apparent ultraviolet excess (UVX) from an area of 30 square degrees centered on Kapteyn Selected Area 28. The objects have been selected from a three-colour (U, B, V) plate taken with the Palomar 48-inch Schmidt telescope. The same plate was used to select a companion list of predominantly starlike UVX objects (Usher and Mitchell, 1982).Operated by Associated Universities, Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The results of photometry and polarimetry of the R Coronae Borealis type stars and other interesting objects are given. The observation of the former objects are obtained at the light maximum or at a brightness lower by 2-3 mag. The polarization of R CrB stars at light maximum has interstellar origin. The absolute magnitude of V 854 Cen is estimated to Msvw = −3m, and for Y Mus it is Mv > −3m.7. ρ Cas has a variable polarization and is probably a giant (Mv ≅ 0m) rather than a supergiant. Many early stars in its surroundings are photometrically and polarimetrically variable. The protoplanetary star BD −0°3679 has a polarization with the Rayleigh component.  相似文献

We are currently performing a new analysis of the close environment of star-forming dwarf galaxies and its effects on their star-forming activity. For a sample of 142 thoroughly studied objects, we search the NASA Extragalactic Database for possible companion galaxies of any apparent luminosity and angular size. From a first analysis of a part of our sample, we find only about 50% of our objects to be isolated in the sense that no companion object was detected within a redshift difference of 500 km s-1 and an angular separation corresponding to a projected distance of 1 Mpc, assuming H 0=75km s-1 Mpc-1. By splitting the sample into different redshift intervals, we demonstrate an observational bias against low-luminosity companion objects which implies that a large fraction of star-forming dwarf galaxies, although lacking bright companions, might possess dwarf companion objects. Similarly to other authors, we find no evidence for a difference in star-forming activity due to the presence or absence of possible companions. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We start from our extended scenario for the formation of astronomical objects from fragmenting macroscopic superstrings, and we combine it with our view of an “orderly” fragmentation applied to the formation of black holes (Brosche, Lentes & Tassie 2003), now to the whole objects: the radial order of the matter should be preserved. Then we have to adapt the value of the superstring tension derived from the observed ratios of κ = (angular momentum)/(mass squared). If we calculate potential energies on the basis of a fragmentation until baryonic elementary particles, it turns out that the changed string tension explains as well the mechanical state of observed astronomical objects (without large energy loss on the way from the parent string parts) as also the fraction of bound to unbound matter (about 1:10). The implied superstring tension is about μ = (1/3000) c 2/G . This corresponds to a string tension of 4 × 1040 Newton. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We summarize our modelling of galaxy photometric evolution (the GRASIL code). By including the effects of dust grains and PAH molecules in a two-phase clumpy medium, where clumps are associated with star-forming regions, we reproduce the observed UV to radio SEDs of galaxies with star formation rates from zero to several hundred M yr-1.GRASIL is a powerful tool for investigating star formation, the initial mass function and the supernova rate in nearby starbursts and normal galaxies, as well as for predicting the evolution of luminosity functions of different types of galaxies at wavelengths covering six decades. It may be interfaced with any device to provide the star formation and metallicity histories of a galaxy. As an application, we have investigated the properties of early-type galaxies in the HDF, tracking the contribution of this population to the cosmic star formation history, which has a broad peak between z = 1.5 and 4.To explain the absence of objects at z ≳ 1.3, we suggest a sequence of dust-enshrouded merger-driven starbursts in the first few Gyr of galaxy lifetimes. We are at present working on a complementary sample of late-type objects selected in a similar way. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We have tested the method of determining the solar Galactocentric distance R 0 and Galactic rotation velocity V 0 modified by Sofue et al. using near-solar-circle objects. The motion of objects relative to the local standard of rest has been properly taken into account. We show that when such young objects as star-forming regions or Cepheids are analyzed, allowance for the perturbations produced by the Galactic spiral density wave improves the statistical significance of the estimates. The estimate of R 0 = 7.25 ± 0.32 kpc has been obtained from 19 star-forming regions. The following estimates have been obtained from a sample of 14 Cepheids (with pulsation periods P > 5 d ): R 0 = 7.66 ± 0.36 kpc and V 0 = 267 ± 17 km s?1. We consider the influence of the adopted Oort constant A and the character of stellar proper motions (Hipparcos or UCAC4). The following estimates have been obtained from a sample of 18 Cepheids with stellar proper motions from the UCAC4 catalog: R 0 = 7.64 ± 0.32 kpc and V 0 = 217 ± 11 km s?1.  相似文献

In a field of 4 square degrees, including the southwestern part of M 31 18 blue starlike objects are found by a photometric statistics in U,B,V of all starlike objects in this field. With great probability 13 of them are OB stars of M 31. Their utmost distances from the nucleus of M 31 are 35…50 kpc. Three further objects are probably quasistellar objects. Two others are striking by their extraordinary position in the two-colour diagram and cannot be classified in a distinct category of objects.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the distribution of the orbits of near-Earth minor bodies from the data on more than 7500 objects. The distribution of large near-Earth objects (NEOs) with absolute magnitudes of H < 18 is generally consistent with the earlier predictions (Bottke et al., 2002; Stuart, 2003), although we have revealed a previously undetected maximum in the distribution of perihelion distances q near q = 0.5 AU. The study of the orbital distribution for the entire sample of all detected objects has found new significant features. In particular, the distribution of perihelion longitudes seriously deviates from a homogeneous pattern; its variations are roughly 40% of its mean value. These deviations cannot be stochastic, which is confirmed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test with a more than 0.9999 probability. These features can be explained by the dynamic behavior of the minor bodies related to secular resonances with Jupiter. For the objects with H < 18, the variations in the perihelion longitude distribution are not so apparent. By extrapolating the orbital characteristics of the NEOs with H < 18, we have obtained longitudinal, latitudinal, and radial distributions of potentially hazardous objects in a heliocentric ecliptic coordinate frame. The differences in the orbital distributions of objects of different size appear not to be a consequence of observational selection, but could indicate different sources of the NEOs.  相似文献

We have selected a complete, flux-limited sample of bright point-like sources with absorbed X-ray spectra from the ROSAT All-Sky survey, the ROSAT Hard Survey (RHS). The sample is drawn from the high-galactic latitude sky, |bII| > ±30°, and avoids the general direction of the Magellanic Clouds and the Virgo Cluster. It comprises a total of 182 objects of which 118 were previosly catalogued objects and 64 were new AGN candidates. Through optical follow-up studies at La Silla, Calar Alto and the 6m Zelentchuk telescope we could identify 56 of the new objects, thus achieving a spectrscopic completeness of 96% of the sample. The selection strategy turned out to be extremely useful. Out of the new identifications, 84% are indeed active galaxies or emission line galaxies. While 14 objects are new BL Lac candidates 33 of the new AGN are Seyfert galaxies with a redshift distribution in the range 0.021–0.63, peaking at around 0.06, i.e. relatively local. Surprisingly, about 40% of the X-ray selected Seyfert galaxies seem to reside in interacting systems. With smaller selection uncertainties this fraction exceeds the number of paired galaxies in optically selected samples and therefore gives strong support to the idea that AGN activity is triggered by interaction.  相似文献

We investigate quantitatively how the peak emission frequency of the overall energy spectrum is at work in distinguishing RBL-like and XBL-like objects. We employ the sample of Giommi et al. (1995) to study the distribution of BL Lacertae objects with various locations of the cutoff of the overall energy spectrum. We find that the sources with the cutoff located at lower frequency are indeed sited in the RBL region of the αrooxplane, while those with the cutoff located at higher frequency are distributed in the XBL region. For a more quantitative study, we employ the BL Lacerta esamples presented by Sambruna et al. (1996), where the peak emission frequency, νp, of each source is estimated by fitting the data with a parabolic function. In the plot of αrx -log νp we find that, in the four different regions divided by the αrx = 0.75 line and thelogνp = 14.7 line, all the RBL-like objects are inside the upper left region, while most XBL-like objects are within the lower right region. A few sources are located in the lower left region. No sources are in the upper right region. This result is rather quantitative. It provides an evidence supporting what Giommi et al. (1995) suggested: RBL-like and XBL-like objects can be distinguished by the difference of the peak emission frequency of the overall energy spectrum. We search for isolated galaxies based on the automatic identification of isolated sources from the Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) followed by a visual inspection of their surroundings. We use the modified Karachentseva criterion to compile a catalog of 3227 isolated galaxies (2MIG), which contains 6% of 2MASS Extended Sources Catalog (or 2MASX) sources brighter than K s = 12 m with angular diameters a K ≥ 30″. The catalog covers the entire sky and has an effective depth of z ∼ 0.02. The 2493 very isolated objects of the catalog, which we include into the 2MVIG catalog, can be used as a reference sample to investigate the effects of the environment on the structure and evolution of galaxies located in regions with extremely low density of matter.  相似文献

The fundamental properties of Friedmann Universes, which are attractive because of their simplicity, are linear expansion (except for deceleration), cooling, and evolution. In addition it is assumed that the fundamental constants of physics are constant and that the known laws of physics apply (including GR). An increasing number of observational tests support these premises. In particular the expansion is as linear as can be tested. The present expansion rate (H 0 = 55 ± 10 km s-1 Mpc-1) implies an expansion age of 17.8 ± 3.2 Gyr (forq 0 = 0) to 11.9 ± 2.1 Gyr (for q0 = 1/2). This agrees perfectly within the errors, even for a critical Universe, with present age determinations of the oldest objects in the Galaxy which require 13.5 ± 2 Gyr.  相似文献

Results are presented from CCD BVRI-observations of 145 comparison stars in the neighborhoods of 14 Seyfert galaxies, 3 quasars, and 5 BL Lac objects with right ascensions of 12 to 24 hours. The magnitudes of the observed stars ranged from V=11 to V=17. The typical photometric error for stars brighter V=14 is 0m.01. The B, V, Rc, and Ic magnitudes of most of these stars were not known previously. 14′ x 14′ finding charts are provided. These results can be used for differential photometry of the nuclei of active galaxies in the B, V, Rc, and Ic bands.__________Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 48, No. 3, pp. 365–379 (August 2005).  相似文献

On plates taken with 2 different photographic telescopes compact galaxies in 3 fields near M3 and M92 were selected. The integral magnitudes and maximum angular diameters of the compacts were determined. The RITCHEY -CHRéTIEN telescope of the FIGL Observatory for Astrophysics (FOA) with a focal ratio of 1:8.3 has a scale of 1 mm = 16.3, while the Tautenburg SCHMIDT with 1:3.2 has a scale of 1 mm ≌ 52°. From the selection statistics for both telescopes results nearly the same number of objects (50) up to 18m.5 in V in a field of 1.5□°.60% of these objects are identical. An integral photometry on B plates of the same limiting magnitude from both telescopes leads to nearly the same brightness of objects, while they are om.5 fainter on FOA V plates. Because of its smaller focal ratio this telescope does not record the halo parts of the compacts. This is clearly demonstrated by the maximum equidensitometric diameters which on FAO plates are on the average only half of those determined on Tautenburg plates. A diameter magnitude diagram is shown.  相似文献
