本文对后发团中心2.63°×2.63°范围内138个盘星系(94个S0星系,44个S和Ir星系)的自转轴方向的分布作了分析,结果表明,后发团中盘星系自转轴方向的分布是非均匀的.相对于假设的均匀分布,有较多的S0星系的自转轴平行于团平面,并且S0星系的自转轴在团平面上的投影倾向于沿着偏离团中心方向约45°的方向;对于S和Irr星系,自转轴倾向于平行或垂直于团平面,自转轴在团平面上的投影则倾向于平行团中心方向.本文证实了后发团中盘星系自转轴方向分布的非均匀性及其与星系形态类型的相关,而且可能与星系光度也有关.样本越深,自转轴指向的分布似乎越不均匀.本文结果说明后发团存在一个优势平面(可能的团平面),在各种星系团及星系形成理论中,有支持“薄饼”(pancake)模型的迹象.  相似文献

星系间的相互作用和合并是一个非常普遍的现象,在星系的形成和演化过程中扮演了一个重要角色。理论和实测都有表明星系并合是椭圆星系形成的重要途径。极亮红外星系(ULIRGs)与星系间的相互作用和并合密切相关,是研究星系并合现象的理想实验室,对它们的测光研究将有助于理解星系的并合过程。哈勃望远镜(HST)的高分辨率观测为这方面的研究提供了条件。我们利用哈勃望远镜(HST)的宽场行星照相机(WFPC2)对极亮红外星短曝光巡天的I波段数据,选出了一个子样本。该子样本由21个以单核为主的极亮红外星系组成,这些星系一般处于星系并合的晚期。我们对这些星系进行了面源测光研究,并根据面亮度轮廓与R1/4律的差别利用χ^2判据律将它们分成了两大类:第一类八个星系的面亮度轮廓可以用R1/4律很好地拟合;而第二类星系在面亮度轮廓与R1/4  相似文献

Chandrasekhar等和Sunder等讨论了具有局部各向同性速度分布的旋转椭球星系的短期(远小于哈勃时间)演化,本文运用Laskar的频率分析方法研究这种星系的长期(大于哈勃时间)演化.得到的新结论主要有:(1)这种星系存在唯一的平衡态(球对称平衡态),它是临界线性稳定的;(2)其半轴一般在平衡态的半径邻近作拟周期或近拟周期(这种近似在远大于哈勃时间后仍可行)振动,从而是长期稳定的;(3)存在一个半轴趋于零,另一个半轴趋于有限值的情形,且一般趋于零的是对称轴的轴长(从而星系趋于扁平),这意味着某些盘星系可能来源于具旋转棉球构形的星系前物质.  相似文献

本文研究了在1993年3月28日之前发现的899颗超新星(SNe)的样本.其中277颗SNe被用来研究超新星在其母星系中的径向分布.我们研究了四个星系样本中超新星在产生单个超新星(称为一般超新星)的星系及在产生多个超新星(称为多重超新星)的星系中的径向分布.这四个星系样本为:总旋涡星系样本,Sb~SbC星系样本,SC星系样本,Sc~Sd星系样本.研究的结果表明:一多重超新星比一般超新星在其母星系中具有更集中于星系核心(大多数恒星形成发生的地方)的倾向,说明星系中心的恒星形成活动会影响多重超新星事件的发生从而影响超新星的频率分布  相似文献

从观测上测定早型星系中恒星形成活动随红移的演化有助于理解这类星系的形成演化.结合GEMS(Galaxy Evolution from Morphology and SEDs)巡天的HST/ACS(Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys)高分辨图像和CDFS(ChandraDeep Field South)天区Spitzer、GALEX(Galaxy Evolution Explorer)等多波段数据,基于形态、颜色和恒星质量选出一个0.2≤z≤1.0红移范围的包含456个早型星系的完备样本.利用stacking技术测量了样本星系紫外与红外平均光度,估计早型星系的恒星形成率.结果显示,早型星系中的恒星形成率较低(<3 M·yr-1),随红移递减而降低.在红移z=1以来的恒星形成贡献的质量小于15%.星族分析亦肯定大质量早型星系的主体星族形成于宇宙早期(z>2).  相似文献

SN 2011fe(超新星) 8月24日于著名的旋涡星系、大熊座美丽的H101中发现的超新星。发现时亮度17.2等。第二天亮度上升到14等以上,之后一路飙升,9月初已达到最大亮度,略亮于10等。在这个亮度下,它能被明显地从背景星系中分开:并且由于所处位置(旋臂)并不是星系最明亮的区域,测光难度也不大。  相似文献

We have imaged a sample of 45 face-on spiral galaxies in the K band, to determine the morphology of the old stellar population, which dominates the mass in the disc. The K -band images of the spiral galaxies have been used to calculate different characteristics of the underlying density perturbation such as arm strengths, profiles and cross-sections, and spiral pitch angles. Contrary to expectations, no correlation was found between arm pitch angle and Hubble type, and combined with previous results this leads us to conclude that the morphology of the old stellar population bears little resemblance to the optical morphology used to classify galaxies. The arm properties of our galaxies seem inconsistent with predictions from the simplest density wave theories, and some observations, such as variations in pitch angle within galaxies, seem hard to reconcile even with more complex modal theories. Bars have no detectable effect on arm strengths for the present sample. We have also obtained B -band images of three of the galaxies. For these galaxies we have measured arm cross-sections and strengths, to investigate the effects of disc density perturbations on star formation in spiral discs. We find that B -band arms lead K -band arms and are narrower than K -band arms, apparently supporting predictions made by the large-scale shock scenario, although the effects of dust on B -band images may contribute towards these results.  相似文献

In the first paper of this series, we directly studied the mathematical forms, symmetry of spiral structure, and the projection of galactic discs on the images, and measured the pitch angles of the spiral arms and inclination angles of the galactic discs for 60 spiral galaxies. In this second paper, we estimate the vertical scale parameters of 48 non-edge-on spiral galaxies based on the method proposed by Peng et al. and on the results given in Paper Ⅰ. As we know, for edge-on disc galaxies we can obtain the vertical scale parameter from the photometry, once a mathematical form is specified for the vertical light distribution. For non-edgeon galaxies, some other methods have to be used. The statistical result was that the vertical scale parameter is comparable for edge-on and non-edge-on galaxies, although it is obtained from two very different methods.  相似文献

Stellar photometry of images from the ACS and WFPC2 cameras on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is used to study the star composition and spatial distribution of stars in three edge-on visible spiral galaxies: NGC 891, NGC 4144, and NGC 4244. Measurements of the surface number density of old stars revealed two stellar subsystems in these galaxies: a thick disk and a halo. The boundaries of these subsystems, which consist mainly of red giants, are determined from the change in the gradient of the number density of the stars. The halos are flattened at the poles of the galaxies and extend to distances of 8–25 kpc from the planes of the galaxies. The present results on the number density distribution of stars with different ages perpendicular to the planes of these galaxies make it possible to improve our model for the stellar structure of spiral galaxies. On the basis of Poisson's equation for the logarithmic perturbation of matter density, we provide improved estimates of scale heights and spiral structures for non-edge-on spiral galaxies by subtracting the surface brightness distributions from observed images. As examples, the non-edge-on spiral galaxies PGC 24996, which is face-on, and M31, which is inclined, are studied. The scale height, pitch angle and inclination angle of M31, our nearest neighbor, that are presented in this work, agree well with previous research.  相似文献

This Letter reports the discovery of straight segments of nuclear spiral arms. Hubble Space Telescope images of Seyfert galaxies are used. The morphology of the straight features on scales of few hundred parsecs proves to be similar to the morphology of disc-wide polygonal spirals and rings. This suggests that the straight structures on both nuclear and disc scales may have a common physical nature.  相似文献

We have obtained spectra for 103 published globular cluster candidates in the Sculptor group galaxies NGC 253 and 55. On the basis of radial velocities and digitized plate images, 14 globular clusters are identified in NGC 253 and one probable globular cluster is identified in NGC 55. The majority of the objects in the sample appear to be background galaxies. We have obtained and analysed COSMOS plate scans of NGC 253 and 55 and use these along with the spectroscopically identified clusters to define new samples of globular cluster candidates in the two galaxies which should have reduced contamination.  相似文献

Measuring the integrated stellar halo light around galaxies is very challenging. The surface brightness of these haloes is expected to be many magnitudes below dark sky and the central brightness of the galaxy. Here, I show that in some of the recent literature the effect of very extended Point Spread Function (PSF) tails on the measurements of halo light has been underestimated; especially in the case of edge-on disc galaxies. The detection of a halo along the minor axis of an edge-on galaxy in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field can largely be explained by scattered galaxy light. Similarly, depending on filter and the shape one assumes for the uncertain extended PSF, 20–80 per cent of the halo light found along the minor axis of scaled and stacked Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) edge-on galaxy images can be explained by scattered galaxy light. Scattered light also significantly contributes to the anomalous halo colours of stacked SDSS images. The scattered light fraction decreases when looking in the quadrants away from the minor axis. The remaining excess light is well modelled with a Sérsic profile halo with shape parameters based on star count halo detections of nearby galaxies. Even though, the contribution from PSF scattered light does not fully remove the need for extended components around these edge-on galaxies, it will be very challenging to make accurate halo light shape and colour measurements from integrated light without very careful PSF measurements and scattered light modelling.  相似文献

The local face-on disk galaxies are selected as galaxy sample from the main galaxy sample of the Seventh Data Release of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS DR7). The correlations between the colors and sizes of disk galaxies with equivalent total stellar masses are statistically investigated and their realities are tested. It is found that for the disk galaxies with equivalent masses, the correlation between u-r color and size is very weak. However, there are anticorrelations between g-r, r-i, r-z colors and sizes, i.e., the larger are the sizes of galaxies, the bluer are their colors. This result means that the mass distribution of disk galaxies has a significant influence on their star formation history. The galaxies with more extended mass distributions evolve more slowly.  相似文献

We compared measurements of 126 501 spiral galaxies to test whether the photometry of galaxies that rotate clockwise is different from the photometry of galaxies that rotate counterclockwise for the purpose of testing whether there is a link between photometry and spin direction of galaxies. The rotation directionality of the galaxies was determined by converting the galaxy image to its radial intensity plot, and then the galaxies in each 30° RA sector were separated into clockwise and counterclockwise rotating galaxies. The mean and standard deviation of SDSS DR7 photometric attributes of clockwise and counterclockwise rotating galaxies were then compared.
