We investigate the velocity field of the solar chromosphere at the location of 65 He i 10830 dark points (DP's). We have obtained spectra of such points in the vicinity of the Ca II K line. As a measure of differential chromospheric velocity, we use the shift of the K line center relative to a nearby photospheric Fe i line. We find that in He i DP's, the distribution of K line shifts is skewed towards the blue: the blueward skewing is more pronounced in He i DP's located in coronal holes. To the extent that He i DP's are proxies of coronal bright points, our study is relevant to previous reports of outflows from such bright points.  相似文献

One dimensional magnetograph scans have been used to study the 5-min photospheric velocity oscillations and the supergranulation. The oscillations in wing brightness lead the oscillations in velocity by less than 90° in the photosphere, and about 90° in the chromosphere, suggesting that they are traveling waves at lower levels and standing waves at higher levels. Downward flows have been observed to be coincident with the chromospheric network confirming the hypothesis that material is flowing downward at supergranular boundaries.  相似文献

It is a well-established fact that the Mn I 539.47 nm line exhibits significant cycle dependence similar to lines arising in the chromosphere which are affected by non-thermal heating in the chromospheric plages. Among these lines the case of the Mn I 539.47 nm line seems unique. It is of photospheric origin on the basis of theoretical calculations but its cyclic dependence hints at a chromospheric nature. The present work provides further evidence to both connections. The line exhibits asymmetry features and a center-to-limb variation as though influenced by the photospheric granulation. On the other hand an enhancement of the central intensity has been detected in a well identifiable Ca plage area. The line seems to be a promising candidate as an irradiance variation indicator.  相似文献

The oscillatory processes in the relatively quiet solar atmosphere, at the base of an extensive coronal hole, have been investigated. The properties of the oscillations in a number of parameters related mainly to the Ca II line intensity have been analyzed in areas belonging to various chromospheric network structures (cells, networks, flocculi, etc.). The goal of this study was to reveal peculiarities of the oscillatory process in the spatial areas located (in projection) at the center of a coronal hole, near its boundary, and at a bright coronal point at various heights of the solar atmosphere (from the photosphere to the middle chromosphere). In most structural elements, the low- and high-frequency components of the spectrum have been found to increase and decrease, respectively, with height. The oscillatory power of the low-frequency oscillations is at a maximum in the areas bordering the bright magnetic network elements. The power of the three-minute, five-minute, and low-frequency oscillations decreases at the centers of the bright chromospheric network. The phase relations point to the propagation of waves mainly at the boundaries of the bright chromospheric network and intermediate (in brightness) network elements. In two of the three investigated regions, the power of the five-minute oscillations (2.4–4.0 mHz) in cells is higher than that of the three-minute ones (5.2–6.8 mHz) at the investigated levels of the quiet solar atmosphere.  相似文献

Imaging spectroscopic data of the Sii 1082.7 nm (photospheric) and Hei 1083.0 nm (chromospheric) spectral lines were taken starting 22:05 UT on 23 July, 1996 with the NASA/NSO Spectromagnetograph at the NSO/Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope. Observations were made near the north solar pole, with a field of view of 100 by 400 arc sec and with a temporal cadence of 53 s for 2 hr. Simple fitting to the line profiles measured the line position, depth, and spectral full-width at half-maximum. Power spectra of the velocity oscillations in each line were computed, and the oscillation power in the 2 to 6 mHz frequency band versus view angle was measured to search for horizontal oscillations. Horizontal waves are not detected to limiting amplitudes (1) of 22 m s-1 in the chromosphere and 9 m s-1 in the photosphere. These values are used to estimate limits for the energy flux into the corona. The amplitude of radial oscillations in the chromosphere is twice that of the photosphere. No statistically meaningful oscillation power is measured in the spectral parameters of the Hei line in the emission shell seen above the continuum limb. Finally, rapidly evolving red-shift events are observed in the Hei 1083 nm line on the disk; these events are some sort of coronal rain, and there are about 40 of these events on the solar disk at any moment.  相似文献

We have analyzed a large number of Caii H line profiles at the sites of the bright points in the interior of the network using a 35-min-long time sequence of spectra obtained at the Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) of the Sacramento Peak Observatory on a quiet regon of the solar disc and studied the dynamical processes associated with these structures. Our analysis shows that the profiles can be grouped into three classes in terms of their evolutionary behaviour. It is surmized that the differences in their behaviour are directly linked with the inner network photospheric magnetic points to which they have been observed to bear a spatial correspondence. The light curves of these bright points give the impression that the main pulse, which is the upward propagating disturbance carrying energy, throws the medium within the bright point into a resonant mode of oscillation that is seen as the follower pulses. The main pulse as well as the follower pulses have identical periods of intensity oscillations, with a mean value around 190 ± 20 s. We show that the energy transported by these main pulses at the sites of the bright points over the entire visible solar surface can account for a substantial fraction of the radiative loss from the quiet chromosphere, according to current models.  相似文献

Instances of seismic transients emitted into the solar interior in the impulsive phases of some solar flares offer a promising diagnostic tool, both for understanding the physics of solar flares and for the general development of local helioseismology. Among the prospective contributors to flare acoustic emission that have been considered are: i) chromospheric shocks propelled by pressure transients caused by impulsive thick-target heating of the upper and middle chromosphere by high-energy particles, ii) heating of the photosphere by continuum radiation from the chromosphere or possibly by high-energy protons, and iii) magnetic-force transients caused by magnetic reconnection. Hydrodynamic modeling of chromospheric shocks suggests that radiative losses deplete all but a small fraction of the energy initially deposited into them before they penetrate the photosphere. Comparisons between the spatial distribution of acoustic sources, derived from seismic holography of the surface signatures of flare acoustic emission, and the spatial distributions of sudden changes both in visible-light emission and in magnetic signatures offer a possible means of discriminating between contributions to flare acoustic emission from photospheric heating and magnetic-force transients. In this study we develop and test a means for estimating the seismic intensity and spatial distribution of flare acoustic emission from photospheric heating associated with visible-light emission and compare this with the helioseismic signatures of seismic emission. Similar techniques are applicable to transient magnetic signatures.  相似文献

A high resolution profile of the solar Oi 1304.9 Å line has been measured from rocket spectrograms. The profile is nearly flat-topped, showing only a slight solar reversal after instrument effects and absorption due to atomic oxygen in the earth's atmosphere have been allowed for. A theoretical analysis of this line, under the assumption of non-LTE conditions and a homogeneous, spherically symmetric chromosphere, predicts a rather deep solar reversal. The theoretical profile may be made consistent with the observed profile if mass motion is present in the chromospheric region where the line is formed. A Gaussian distribution of up and down velocities with a root mean square velocity of about 7 km/sec gives best agreement between the predicted and observed profile. This result is consistent with the conclusion made from a study of high resolution profiles of solar lines in the visible spectrum that mass vertical velocities increase with height above the photosphere.  相似文献

The behavior of oscillations in the quite solar chromosphere under a coronal hole at several heights has been investigated. The properties of oscillations in cell, network, and weak-floccule areas have been analyzed. A time series of spectrograms in three ionized calcium lines, the Ca II K and H resonance doublet lines and the infrared Ca II 849.8-nm triplet line, was used. The observations were carried out at the horizontal solar telescope of the Sayan Observatory. The goal of this study was to compare the distributions of spectral power in various frequency ranges and their variations for selected spatial areas at different heights of the chromosphere. Particular attention was paid to the weak floccule due to a noticeable difference in the central intensity distribution between the K and H lines and the 849.8-nm line. A spectral Fourier analysis was used. The central intensities of the observed spectral lines, the K-index, and the equivalent width (the latter for the 849.8-nm line) were chosen as oscillation parameters. The studies have shown that the main intensity oscillation power at both atmospheric levels is concentrated at frequencies below 9 mHz. In the distribution of intensity oscillation power at different chromospheric levels, there are differences clearly distinguishable in the floccule. Powerful five-minute oscillations whose main peak frequency decreases with height, while the amplitude increases have been detected in the central part of the floccule. This result confirms the assumptions recently pointed out in the literature that vertical magnetic field concentrations can serve as a channel for the passage of low-frequency oscillations from the photosphere to the chromosphere in faculae. The intensity oscillation power in the frequency ranges under consideration has turned out to decrease with height, on average, for the entire observed spatial area. This may be related to the loss of part of the wave energy through the reflection, dissipation, and transformation of wave modes in the magnetic canopy layer. An area with a low brightness but powerful oscillations at about 3.3 mHz covering a considerable range of heights probably pertaining to “magnetic flashers” has been isolated in the telescope’s field of view.  相似文献

We analyzed chromospheric events and their connection to oscillation phenomena and photospheric dynamics. The observations were done with the New Solar Telescope of Big Bear Solar Observatory using a broad-band imager at the wavelength of a TiO band and FISS spectrograph scanning Ca?ii and Hα spectral lines. The event in Ca?ii showed strong plasma flows and propagating waves in the chromosphere. The movement of the footpoints of flux tubes in the photosphere indicated flux tube entanglement and magnetic reconnection as a possible cause of the observed brightening and waves propagating in the chromosphere. An upward propagating train of waves was observed at the site of the downflow event in Hα. There was no clear relationship between photospheric waves and the Ca?ii and Hα events. Our observations indicate that chromospheric waves that were previously thought to originate from the photosphere may be generated by some events in the chromosphere as well.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is a detailed statistical analysis of the low-frequency Ca II line intensity oscillations containing information about the dynamics of the lower and middle chromosphere. A pixel-by-pixel analysis of the observed parameters has been performed. The following results have been obtained. (1) The low-frequency chromospheric oscillations (periods >400 s) are seen much more frequently in networks than in chromospheric network cells. (2) The relative fraction of the low-frequency chromospheric intensity oscillations increases with height. (3) The occurrence distribution of intensity oscillations as a function of the frequency is subdivided at least into two types. (4) In contrast to the low-frequency photospheric oscillations, the phase differences between the Ca II K and 849.8 nm line intensity oscillations do not give grounds to identify the low-frequency chromospheric oscillations with internal gravity waves. (5) The spectral composition of the oscillations in the network chromosphere resembles that expected in magnetic flux tubes in the nonlinear regime of conversion of transverse MHD waves at lower levels of the atmosphere into longitudinal MHD waves in its upper layer.  相似文献

In this work we investigate p‐mode power variation with solar atmosphere. To this aim, we use THÉMIS observations of the Na D1 (λ 5896 Å) and K (λ 7699 Å) spectral lines. While the formation heights of the K spectral line are essentially located in the photospheric layer, the formation heights of the Na D1 line span a much wider region: from photosphere up to chromosphere. Hence, we had the opportunity to infer p‐mode power variation up to the chromospheric layer. By analyzing power spectra obtained by temporal series at different points of the Na D1 and K spectral lines, we confirm and quantify the increase in p‐mode power towards higher atmospheric layers. Furthermore, the large span in formation heights of the Na D1 line induces a larger enhancement of p‐mode power with solar atmosphere compared to the K spectral line. On 21 September 2012, we carried out spectral observations of a solar facula in the Si?i 10827 Å, He?i 10830 Å, and H\(\upalpha\) spectral lines. Later, in the process of analyzing the data, we found a small-scale flare in the middle of the time series. Based on the anomalous increase in the absorption of the He?i 10830 Å line, we identified this flare as a negative flare. The aim of this article is to study the influence of the negative flare on the oscillation characteristics in the facular photosphere and chromosphere. We measured the line-of-sight (LOS) velocity and intensity of all the three lines as well as the half-width of the chromospheric lines. We also used the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) magnetic field data. The flare caused a modulation of all these parameters. In the location of the negative flare, the amplitude of the oscillations increased four times on average. In the adjacent magnetic field local maxima, the chromospheric LOS velocity oscillations appreciably decreased during the flare. The facular region oscillated as a whole with a 5-minute period before the flare, and this synchronicity was disrupted after the flare. The flare changed the spectral composition of the LOS magnetic field oscillations, causing an increase in the low-frequency oscillation power.  相似文献

We propose chromospheric models of plages to explain profiles of the Ca ii H, K, λl8498, λ8542, and λ8662 lines described in Paper I. These models are consistent with boundary conditions imposed by the photosphere and the Lyman continuum. We find that increasing emission in these lines is consistent with a picture of increasing temperature gradient in the low chromosphere and the resulting increase in pressure and electron density at similar line optical depths. With this picture we suggest how to empirically determine the distribution of chromospheric parameters across the solar disk directly from Ca ii filtergrams. We also propose that the high density aspects of solar activity are produced by steep temperature gradients in the low chromosphere and thus by the enhanced heating mechanisms that steepen these gradients.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the relations between photospheric vector magnetic fields, chromospheric longitudinal magnetic fields and velocity fields in a solar active region. Agreements between the photospheric and chromospheric magnetograms can be found in large-scale structures or in the stronger magnetic structures, but differences also can be found in the fine structures or in other places, which reflect the variation of the magnetic force lines from the photosphere to the chromosphere. The chromospheric superpenumbral magnetic field, measured by the Hline, presents a spoke-like structure. It consists of thick magnetic fibrils which are different from photospheric penumbral magnetic fibrils. The outer superpenumbral magnetic field is almost horizontal. The direction of the chromospheric magnetic fibrils is generally parallel to the transverse components of the photospheric vector magnetic fields. The chromospheric material flow is coupled with the magnetic field structure. The structures of the H chromospheric magnetic fibrils in the network are similar to H dark fibrils, and the feet of the magnetic fibrils are located at the photospheric magnetic elements.  相似文献

We have used a high spatial and temporal resolution of long time sequence of spectra in CaII H-line obtained at the Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) of the Sacramento Peak Observatory on a quiet region at the center of the solar disk over a large number of bright points and network elements to search for atmospheric (chromospheric) g-mode oscillations. An important parameter of the H-line profile, intensity at H2v(Ih2V), has been derived from a large number of line profiles. We derived the light curves of all the bright points and network elements. The light curves represent the main pulse with large intensity amplitude and followed by several follower pulses with lower intensity amplitudes. The light curves of these bright points would give an impression that one can as well draw curves towards and away from the highest peak (main pulse) showing an exponential growth and decay of the amplitudes. An exponential decaying function has been fitted for all the light curves of the bright points to determine the damping time of the modes that are more or less the same, and one value of the coefficient of exponent can represent reasonably well the decay for all the cases. The FFT analysis of temporal variation of both the bright points and the network elements indicates around 10-min periodicity. We speculate that this longer period of oscillation may be related to chromospheric g-mode oscillations.  相似文献

In this paper we carry out an analysis of the spatial–temporal line-of-sight velocity variations measured in the chromospheric (H, H) and photospheric (Fei 6569 Å, Fei 4864 Å, Nii 4857 Å) lines at the base of 17 coronal holes. Time series of a duration from 43 to 120 min were recorded with the CCD line-array and the CCD matrix. Rather frequently we observed quasi-stationary upward flows with a measured velocity of up to 1 km s–1 in the photosphere and up to 4–5 km s–1 in the chromosphere (equivalent radial velocity of up to 3 km s–1 and up to 12–15 km s–1 accordingly) near dark points on the chromospheric network boundary inside polar CH. Line-of-sight velocity fluctuation spectra contain meaningful maxima in the low-frequency region clustering around the values 0.4, 0.75, and 1 mHz. Usually, the spatial localization of these maxima mutually coincides and, in our opinion, coincides with the chromospheric network boundary. Acoustic 3- and 5-min oscillations are enhanced in the coronal hole region and reach 1 km s–1 in the photosphere and 3–4 km s–1 in the chromosphere. These oscillations are not localized spatially and are distinguished throughout the entire region observed.  相似文献

A new model is proposed for the solar chromosphere, which is assumed to be an instable inhomogeneous formation, consisting of numerous elements (filaments), each with different temperature and density. Fluctuations of the magnetic field may give rise to chromospheric turbulence and may also cause the chromospheric inhomogeneities. The chromosphere is suggested to consist of four discrete groups of filaments: (1) metallic filaments where the conditions for the emission of lines of neutral metals are optimal, (2) hydrogenic elements, with optimum conditions for the emission of the Balmer series of hydrogen, (3) helium filaments, with optimum conditions for the appearence of the neutral helium lines, (4) the subcoronal filaments, representing a transition from chromospheric to coronal formations. The metallic filaments may be further subdivided, first into filaments where the emission arises from scattering of photospheric radiation - these emit lines of neutral metals and of some metallic ions (CaII, SrII, and others), and further into filaments where the emission is farther from LTE conditions; the latter filaments are characterized by a somewhat higher electron temperature and by an electron density at least exceeding that of the other elements by an order of 10. Computations of the optimum conditions for the emission of the neutral helium lines were made with the aid of new tables of Sobolev. The helium filaments in the low chromosphere have lower temperatures and are denser than those in the upper chromosphere; for a part they may also be considered as hydrogen filaments. The derivation of the physical parameters of the subcoronal filaments was based on data on the Heii4686 chromospheric line emission and also on rocket observations of the ultraviolet solar spectrum. In order to evaluate the relative distribution of the various filaments between heights of 0 and 5000 km, data on the radio emission of the Sun at 8 mm are also used. Characteristics of the proposed model of the chromosphere are given in Table III and Figure 1.  相似文献

From a 35-min time series of photographic spectra in the Caii H-line obtained at the Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) of the Sacramento Peak Observatory under high spatial, spectral, and temporal resolution, we have derived a large number of H-line profiles at the sites of the bright points in the interior of the supergranulation cells, and at the network elements, on a quiet region at the centre of the solar disc. It is shown that the bright points are associated with 3-min periodicity in their intensity oscillations whereas the network elements exhibit 7-min periodicity. It is surmised that the large difference in periods of the intensity oscillations, the strength of the magnetic fields, and the intensity enhancements at the sites of the bright points and the network elements themselves may probably be taken as evidence to argue that the mechanisms of heating in the two cases are dissimilar, irrespective of the sizes of these structures.  相似文献

Recent dedicated Hinode polar region campaigns revealed the presence of concentrated kilogauss patches of the magnetic field in the polar regions of the Sun, which are also shown to be correlated with facular bright points at the photospheric level. In this work, we demonstrate that this spatial intermittency of the magnetic field persists even up to the chromospheric heights. The small-scale bright elements visible in the bright network lanes of the solar network structure as seen in the Ca ii H images are termed network bright points. We use special Hinode campaigns devoted to the observation of polar regions of the Sun to study the polar network bright points during the phase of the last extended solar minimum. We use Ca ii H images of chromosphere observed by the Solar Optical Telescope. For magnetic field information, level-2 data of the spectro-polarimeter is used. We observe a considerable association between the polar network bright points and magnetic field concentrations. The intensity of such bright points is found to be correlated well with the photospheric magnetic field strength underneath with a linear relation existing between them.
