A planthopper originally assigned to the genus Boreocixius in Surijokocixiidae (Surijokocixioidea, Fulgoromorpha) from the Ladinian (Middle Triassic) of Tongchuan in Shaanxi, northwestern China is described as Boreocixius tongchuanensis Zhang et al. sp. nov. As the third species ascribed to the genus, it differs from its congeners in having the much larger tegmen with postnodal veinlets and pigmented bands, providing new morphological information for Boreocixius. The establishment of the new species further increases the diversity of Boreocixius and Surijokocixiidae as well.  相似文献

Drawing on Flyvbjerg’s (2001) call for the development of phronetic social science, this paper argues that much current research into pro-environmental behaviour (PEB) is misguided, and even potentially dangerous. After outlining Flyvbjerg’s argument, it reviews existing work on PEB and argues that, to date, it has predominantly sought after the Aristotelian intellectual virtues of either episteme or techne, and has neglected phronesis which Aristotle himself saw as most important. It then explores the ways in which aspects of a phronetic approach are being developed in cultural geography and environmental sociology, before offering a brief empirical case study of a PEB-change initiative to illustrate what a phronetic approach to research might look like. It concludes by calling for an improved and more reflexive dialogue between PEB researchers regarding the purpose and approach of their work, both in order to improve the relevance and impact of their research, and in order to help individuals and communities understand and confront the significant environmental challenges they currently face.  相似文献

The present study deals with how stochastic stackings of tetrahedral/octahedral phengitic sheets bearing diverse cation distributions affect diffraction signals and the structural inferences therefrom derived. The interest for such minerals is dictated by that the stability of phengite polytypes, their cation distributions and P/T conditions of crystallization are related to each other. We focus our attention on layers’ probabilistic sequences that preserve the topology of the polytypes 2M 1(SG: C2/c) and 3T(SG: P3112). Neutron diffraction intensities are modelled by a Monte Carlo approach and then used as artificial experimental data for conventional structure refinements that yield the occupancy factors in the fourfold (Si, Al) and sixfold (Al, Mg) coordination sites of 2M 1 and 3T. The cation ordering from structure refinement tallies with the one of the “average structure” of a stochastic stacking, but it can significantly differ from those of the individual tetrahedral/octahedral sheets. For instance, sheets having ordered cation arrangements can lead to a stochastic structure which is supposed to bear a fully disordered cation partitioning according to structure refinement. This affects the configuration entropy contributions: the values obtained by conventional refinements can deviate from the correct ones up to 30 %. The analysis of the equivalent reflection intensities brings to light the anomalies hinting at the occurrence of such stacking disorder (using modelled reflections, the mean ratio between standard deviation and average intensity of symmetry equivalent reflections is ideally 0 for perfect crystal structures, but it can amount up to 6 in stochastically disordered phengites). However, taking into account the instrumental uncertainties and the deviations from ideality of actual crystals, such phenomena are very difficult to be detected experimentally.  相似文献

The present study encompasses a detailed investigation of downcore Holocene foraminifera and their assemblages to comprehend the ecology of the Bay of Bengal and compare it with that of the South China and Sulu Seas, at the same depth for all the three water bodies. Based on temperature and dissolved oxygen profiles, benthic foraminiferal abundance, and species diversity values, it is inferred that the Bay of Bengal is much better ventilated than either the South China or the Sulu Sea. The planktic/benthic (P/B) ratios are extremely low when compared with those reported elsewhere in the world. The absolute dominance of benthic foraminiferal species over their planktic counterparts is attributed to the effect of fragmentation and dissolution of the latter, as they are relatively more susceptible to this process. The very low P/B values are also indicative of water depth below the lysocline in this part of the Bay of Bengal.  相似文献

Pollen analysis of three core samples,YEV-I, GOHO.00 and DO.00, taken in the coastal area of Bénin shows the existence of mangrove during the Holocene. This mangrove underwent many physiognomic changes from the middle to the late Holocene. In the course of the middle Holocene (from 7500 to 2500 years before present (BP)), it stretched over a large area from the littoral inland. It was tightly closed and almost monospecific, dominated by Rhizophora. During the late Holocene, this mangrove started to regress around 3000 years BP and disappeared about 2500 years BP from the studied sites. It has been replaced by swamp meadows dominated by Paspalum vaginatum Sw. and a fresh water environment colonised by taxa such as Persicaria, Typha, Ludwigia, and Nymphaea.  相似文献

Spitidiscus is a widely-distributed Hauterivian genus that briefly invaded the Neuquén Basin, Argentina, in mid Hauterivian times, well after it first evolved in the west Tethyan area. Its appearance in Argentina is linked with a globally-significant mid Hauterivian sea-level rise. This is marked in the basin by a sharp facies change in the Agrio Formation, from non-marine sandstones of the Avilé Member to marine sediments, often laminated black shales, with Spitidiscus at the base of the overlying Agua de la Mula Member. Our extensive field work has shown that Spitidiscus occurs across the whole basin, where it is represented by two species, Spitidiscus riccardii Leanza and Wiedmann and Spitidiscus kilapiae sp. nov. For most of its vertical range Spitidiscus occurs alone, characterising the S. riccardii Zone. But at the top of its range it is joined by the first crioceratitid ammonites, their appearance marking the base of the Crioceratites schlagintweiti Zone.  相似文献

The polychaete Janua (Dexiospira) brasiliensis (Grube) is shown to exhibit gregarious settling patterns on both natural (Zostera marina) and artificial (aquarium glass) substrates. J. (D.) brasiliensis tends to be found more often on older (=longer) Zostera blades and on the upper (=older) portions of the blades on which it is found, probably as a result of requiring a diatom mat before being able to settle on the Zostera surface. On both Zostera and the aquarium glass, J. (D.) brasiliensis forms small clumps (2 cm) with the animals within the clumps distributed at random.  相似文献

It is shown mathematically that if the activity coefficient of water in ternary water-magma (aluminosilicate) systems is constant or varies only with the mole fraction of water, it is not necessary that the binary magmas form ideal solutions contrary to the claims by Burnham et al. (1978, Geochim. Cosmochim. Acta42, 275–276). A molecular viewpoint is presented to support this argument. The properties of analytical equations capable of representing the activity coefficients of usual and unusual systems are discussed. The correct form of the Gibbs-Dunhem equation for dissociative dissolution processes is presented to disprove the claims by Burnham (1975, Fortschr. Mineral.52, 101–118; 1975, Geochim. Cosmochim. This paper explores the relation between processes of security and futurity in the context of efforts to govern the complexity and contingency of events of terror. It argues that processes of securing function by generating a dangerous or promissory supplement to the present that thereafter propels the extension of forms of security. The paper develops this argument through an example of how an event of terror was anticipated: a RAND exercise into the aftermath of a ‘ground burst’ nuclear explosion in Long Beach, California on March 14th 2005. It argues that exercises (in)secure through three quasi-causal operations, each of which render events of terror actionable and result in specific relations between the present and future. First, ‘hypothetically possible’ generic events are named. The future takes place as a threatening horizon. Second, the defined phases of an event’s happening are staged (an advent, its multiplication into a crisis in the context of a milieu, and a response/recovery phase). The here and now is suspended between an ‘as if’ future and the present. Third, the consequences of the event are played. The future is both an intensified ‘practical’ presence embodied by exercise participants and an outside that exceeds attempts to definitively know it. The conclusion summarises the implications of the paper for work on futurity, security and the event.  相似文献

We measured the stable isotopic composition of hydrogen (δD) within atmospheric water vapor collected simultaneously at six sites in the vicinity of a lake (Lake Kasumigaura, Eastern Japan) to determine its spatial distribution characteristics and thereby diagnose sources and mixing of atmospheric moisture. The measured spatial distribution of δD showed no relation to distance from the lake, although it showed a correlation with the distribution of the water-vapor mixing ratio Q. For two of the three sampling days, we found a simple two-component (i.e., water vapor transpiring from local land surfaces and pre-existing vapor in the background atmosphere) mixing line in a Keeling plot (i.e., δ − 1/Q diagram). On a third day, however, contributions from lake evaporation were detected in addition to the above components. On this day, lake-derived vapor accounted for approximately 10-20% of atmospheric water vapor at the sites located leeward of the lake. The observed differences in mixing patterns among sampling days can be explained by a simple atmospheric moisture budget. Thus, it is likely that simultaneous isotopic measurements of atmospheric water vapor at multiple locations with aid of Keeling plot are capable of giving us useful information in diagnosing the sources and mixing pattern of the vapor.  相似文献

Two new genera and two new species of fossil Throscidae: Potergosoma gratiosa gen. et sp. nov. and Rhomboaspis laticollis gen. et sp. nov. are described from the Lower Cretaceous Lebanese amber and are compared with extant and extinct genera. The described amber inclusions are the oldest known representatives of the family Throscidae. Some hypotheses on the phylogeny of the family Throscidae and the position of it in the superfamily Elateroidea are discussed.  相似文献

Vibrational modelling is at the present time the only known way to predict the heat capacities of the Earth's mantle minerals at high-pressure and high-temperature. To test the validity of this method for λ-type transitions, we have applied it to the α-β quartz transition (T 0=846±1 K). Raman spectra of quartz were recorded up to 900 K. Measured frequency shifts of the α-quartz Raman modes were then used in conjunction with available high-pressure Raman data to calculate intrinsic mode anharmonicity, through the parameter a i=(?Lnvi/?T)v. Vibrational modelling of the heat capacity at constant volume, Cv, and at constant pressure, Cp, including anharmonic corrections deduced from the a i parameters, are compared to experimental data. Taking into account the soft-mode associated to the α-β quartz transition, the model reproduces the excess of Cp related to the transition. Then, this study confirms that detecting a soft-mode from vibrational data allows one to predict λ-type transitions. However, when modelling the thermodynamic properties, the contribution of a soft-mode cannot be established from spectroscopic data. Therefore, one needs first to determine this contribution in order to predict the heat capacities of Earth's mantle minerals displaying λ-type transitions. In α-quartz, this contribution has been determined as 0.007% of the total number of the optic modes in the model of the density of states.  相似文献

We have studied variability of the spectral lines of the OB star δOri A—the brightest component of the δOri triple system. Forty spectra with signal-to-noise ratios ≈500–800 and a time resolution of four minutes were obtained. We detected variability in the HeIIλ4686, HeIλ4713, and Hβ absorption and the CIIIλ5696 emission profiles. The amplitude of the variability is ≈(0.5–1)% of the continuum intensity. The dynamical wavelet spectrum of the profile variations reveals large-scale components in the interval 25–50 km/s that move within the-V sin i to V sin i band for the primary star of the system, Aa1, with a band crossing time of 4h–5h. However, some of the variable features go outside the band, presumably due to either imhomogeneities in the stellar wind from δOri Aa1 or nonradial pulsations of the weaker components of the system, Aa2 or Ab. The detected variability may be cyclic with a period of ≈4h. We suggest that it is associated with nonradial pulsations of the primary in the sector mode (l,m) = (2, ?2).  相似文献

Although the European dinosaur succession during the latest Cretaceous and its relationship with the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) mass extinction has been the focus of recent work, other continental vertebrates, such as crocodylomorphs, have received less attention. The European continental record of crocodylomorphs in general, and of eusuchians in particular, is relatively dense through the Maastrichtian until the K-Pg boundary. Traditionally it has been argued that continental crocodylomorphs were minimally impacted by the K-Pg extinction, but they were substantially affected in Europe with the disappearance of endemic eusuchians such as Hylaeochampsidae, Allodaposuchus and their close relatives, and non-eusuchians such as Doratodon or Theriosuchus. Despite extensive sampling in Danian continental deposits, only scarce fragmentary crocodylomorph remains have been cited. It is not until the late Paleocene and Eocene that a recovery in continental crocodylomorphs is observed. The presence of taxa such as planocraniids, the alligatoroids Diplocynodon and Hassiacosuchus, and stem crocodyloids during this period provide the first reliable continental records of Crocodylia in Europe and is best explained by post-extinction immigration from Asia or North America. By contrast, marine forms such as Thoracosaurus are found on both sides of the K-Pg boundary in Europe. The adaptation of these marine animals to different environments, from shallow seas to more transitional or fluvial environments, could be the key to their success and survival across the K-Pg boundary, as seen in other marine crocodylomorph clades such as Dyrosauridae.  相似文献

Fluctuations in benthic foraminiferal faunas over the last 130,000 yr in four piston cores from the Norwegian Sea are correlated with the standard worldwide oxygen-isotope stratigraphy. One species, Cibicides wuellerstorfi, dominates in the Holocene section of each core, but alternates downcore with Oridorsalis tener, a species dominant today only in the deepest part of the basin. O. tener is the most abundant species throughout the entire basin during periods of particularly cold climate when the Norwegian Sea presumably was ice covered year round and surface productivity lowered. Portions of isotope Stages 6, 3, and 2 are barren of benthic foraminifera; this is probably due to lowered benthic productivity, perhaps combined with dilution by ice-rafted sediment; there is no evidence that the Norwegian Sea became azoic. The Holocene and Substage 5e (the last interglacial) are similar faunally. This similarity, combined with other evidence, supports the presumption that the Norwegian Sea was a source of dense overflows into the North Atlantic during Substage 5e as it is today. Oxygen-isotope analyses of benthic foraminifera indicate that Norwegian Sea bottom waters warmer than they are today from Substage 5d to Stage 2, with the possible exception of Substage 5a. These data show that the glacial Norwegian Sea was not a sink for dense surface water, as it is now, and thus it was not a source of deep-water overflows. The benthic foraminiferal populations of the deep Norwegian Sea seem at least as responsive to near-surface conditions, such as sea-ice cover, as they are to fluctuations in the hydrography of the deep water. Benthic foraminiferal evidence from the Norwegian Sea is insufficient in itself to establish whether or not the basin was a source of overflows into the North Atlantic at any time between the Substage 5e/5d boundary at 115,000 yr B.P. and the Holocene.  相似文献

Developing the notion of assemblage, this paper seeks to extend our understanding of drunkenness by exploring young people’s drinking practices in the night-time economy of Copenhagen, Denmark. The main argument is that drunkenness is an embodied and social practice which, in relation to a multiplicity of actors and forces particular to the place of drinking, increases and/or decreases the drunken body’s capacities to affect and be affected. Accordingly, Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of assemblage will be mobilized to cast light on how drunkenness emerges as the product of unpredictable yet patterned encounters between discourses, bodies (human and nonhuman), spaces, different drinks and consumption practices. In the analysis, which draws on qualitative empirical data from extensive fieldwork in a mainstream nightclub in Copenhagen, Denmark, it is shown how the drinking subjects’ capacity to initiate and sustain a number of – social, musical and sexual – relationships are altered by the consumption of alcohol in relation to the specific assemblage in which this consumption is enacted.  相似文献
