Garnets along the join Mg4Si4O12 (majorite end member) – Mg3Al2Si3O12 (pyrope) synthesized at 2000 °C, 19 GPa are, after quench, tetragonal in the compositional range up to 20 mol% pyrope, but cubic at higher Al contents. Lattice constants a tet and a tet in the tetragonal compositional range converge with increasing pyrope contents towards the lattice constant of the cubic garnets. The elastic strain and the intensity of the (222) reflection as a function of composition indicate a second-order phase transition near 20 mol% pyrope. From the wedge-like shape of pseudomerohedral twins and their interaction near 90° twin-boundary corners, as well as from the absence of growth-induced dislocations, it is concluded that the Al-poor garnets are also cubic at synthesis conditions but invert by (Mg,Si) ordering on the octahedral sites into tetragonal phases of space group I41/a upon quench. This implies that the cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition in Mg4Si4O12 garnet occurs below 2000 °C at 19 GPa and at even lower temperatures in more aluminous compositions. A composition-dependent Landau model is consistent with a direct transformation from Ia3d to I41/a. Comparison of the T-X stability field of majorite-pyrope garnets with the chemistry of majorite-rich garnets expected to occur in the Earth's transition zone shows that the latter will be cubic under all conditions. Softening of elastic constants, which commonly accompanies ferroelastic phase transitions, may affect the seismic velocities of garnets in the deeper transition zone where majorite contents are highest. The pseudo-binary system Mg3Al2Si3O12–Na2MgSi5O12 modelling the sodium-bearing garnet solid solutions has been studied at 7 and 8.5 GPa and 1,500–1,950°C. The Na-bearing garnet is a liquidus phase of the system up to 60 mol% Na2MgSi5O12 (NaGrt). At higher content of NaGrt in the system, enstatite (up to ∼80 mol%) and then coesite are observed as liquidus phases. Our experiments provided evidence for a stable sodium incorporation in garnet (0.3–0.6 wt% Na2O) and its control by temperature and pressure. The highest sodium contents were obtained in experiments at P = 8.5 GPa. Near the liquidus (T = 1,840°C), the equilibrium concentration of Na2O in garnet is 0.7–0.8 wt% (∼6 mol% Na2MgSi5O12). With the temperature decrease, Na concentration in Grt increases, and the maximal Na2MgSi5O12 content of ∼12 mol% (1.52 wt% Na2O) is gained at the solidus of the system (T = 1,760°С). The data obtained show that most of natural diamonds, with inclusions of Na-bearing garnets usually containing <0.4 wt% Na2O, could be formed from sodium-rich melts at pressures lower than 7 GPa. Majoritic garnets with higher sodium concentrations (>1 wt% Na2O) may crystallize at a pressure range of 7.0–8.5 GPa. However the upper pressure limit for the formation of naturally occurring Na-bearing garnets is restricted by the eclogite/garnetite bulk composition.  相似文献

The paper reports original thermochemical data on six natural amphibole samples of different composition. The data were obtained by high-temperature melt solution calorimetry in a Tian–Calvet microcalorometer and include the enthalpies of formation from elements for actinolite Ca1.95(Mg4.4Fe 0.5 2+ Al01)[Si8.0O22](OH)2(–12024 ± 13 kJ/mol) and Ca2.0(Mg2.9Fe 1.9 2+ Fe 0.2 3+ )[Si7.8Al0.2O22](OH)2, (–11462 ± 18 kJ/mol), and Na0.1Ca2.0(Mg3.2Fe 1.6 2+ Fe 0.2 3+ )[Si7.7Al0.3O22](OH)2 (–11588 ± 14 kJ/mol); for pargasite Na0.5K0.5Ca2.0-(Mg3.4Fe 1.8 2+ Al0.8)[Si6.2Al1.8O22](OH)2 (–12316 ± 10 kJ/mol) and Na0.8K0.2Ca2.0(Mg2.8Fe 1.3 3+ Al0.9) [Si6.1Al1.9O22](OH)2 (–12 223 ± 9 kJ/mol); and for hastingsite Na0.3K0.2Ca2.0(Mg0.4Fe 1.3 2+ Fe 0.9 3+ Al0.2) [Si6.4Al1.6O22](OH)2 (?10909 ± 11 kJ/mol). The standard entropy, enthalpy, and Gibbs free energy of formation are estimated for amphiboles of theoretical composition: end members and intermediate members of the isomorphic series tremolite–ferroactinolite, edenite–ferroedenite, pargasite–ferropargasite, and hastingsite.  相似文献

Unusual Ti–Cr–Zr-rich garnet crystals from high-temperature melilitic skarn of the Maronia area, western Thrace, Greece, were investigated by electron-microprobe analysis, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Chemical data showed that the garnets contain up to 8 wt.% TiO2, 8 wt.% Cr2O3 and 4 wt.% ZrO2, representing a solid solution of andradite (Ca3Fe3+ 2Si3O12 ≈46 mol%), uvarovite (Ca3Cr2Si3O12 ≈23 mol%), grossular (Ca3Al2Si3O12 ≈10 mol%), schorlomite (Ca3Ti2[Si,(Fe3+,Al3+)2]O12 ≈15 mol%), and kimzeyite (Ca3Zr2[Si,Al2]3O12 ≈6 mol%). The Mössbauer analysis showed that the total Fe is ferric, preferentially located at the octahedral site and to a smaller extent at the tetrahedral site. Single-crystal XRD analysis, Raman and IR spectroscopy verified substitution of Si mainly by Al3+, Fe3+ and Ti4+. Cr3+ and Zr4+ are found at the octahedral site along with Fe3+, Al3+ and Ti4+. The measured H2O content is 0.20 wt.%. The analytical data suggest that the structural formula of the Maronia garnet can be given as: (Ca2.99Mg0.03)Σ=3.02(Fe3+ 0.67Cr0.54Al0.33Ti0.29Zr0.15)Σ=1.98(Si2.42Ti0.24Fe0.18Al0.14)Σ=2.98O12OH0.11. Ti-rich garnets are not common and their crystal chemistry is still under investigation. The present work presents new evidence that will enable the elucidation of the structural chemistry of Ti- and Cr-rich garnets.  相似文献

The results of an experimental study of the pyrope (Mg3Al2Si3O12)-jadeite (NaAlSi2O6) system at P = 7.0 and 8.5 GPa and T = 1300?C1800°C are summarized in this paper. The main phases that were obtained in the experiments are garnet, pyroxene, kyanite (in some cases corundum), and quenched melt. Garnets are characterized by a stable Na2O admixture (up to 0.6 wt % at 7.0 GPa and up to 0.8 wt % at 8.5 GPa) and the high silicon content (Si = 3.016?C3.166). The maximal sodium concentrations in garnet were found at the solidus of the system, which results from an increase of the coefficient of sodium partitioning between garnet and melt during a temperature decrease.  相似文献

We have obtained infrared and Raman spectra for garnets synthesized at high (static) pressures and temperatures along the join Mg3Al2Si3O12 (pyrope) — Mg4Si4O12 (magnesium majorite). The vibrational spectra of Mg-majorite show a large number of additional weak peaks compared with the spectra of cubic pyrope garnet, consistent with tetragonal symmetry for the MgSiO3 garnet phase. The Raman bands for this phase show no evidence for line broadening, suggesting that Mg and Si are ordered on octahedral sites in the garnet. The bands for the intermediate garnet compositions are significantly broadened compared with the end-members pyrope and Mg-majorite, indicating cation disorder in the intermediate phases. Solid state 27Al NMR spectroscopy for pyrope and two intermediate compositions show that Al is present only on octahedral sites, so the cation disorder is most likely confined to Mg-Al-Si mixing on the octahedral sites. We have also obtained a Raman spectrum for a natural, shock-produced (Fe,Mg) majorite garnet. The sharp Raman peaks suggest little or no cation disorder in this sample.  相似文献

Results of experimental study at 7.0–8.5 GPa and 1300–1900°C of the systems pyrope Mg3Al2Si3O12 (Prp)-Na2MgSi5O12 (NaGrt) modeling solid solutions of Na-bearing garnets, Prp-jadeite NaAlSi2O6 (Jd) in a simplified mode demonstrating melting relations of Na-rich eclogite, and Prp-Na2CO3 are presented. Prp-Na2MgSi5O12 join is a pseudobinary that results from the decomposition of NaGrt on to coesite and Na-pyroxene. Synthesized garnets are characterized by Na admixture (>0.32 wt % Na2O) and excess Si (3.05–3.15 f.u.). Maximal Na2O concentrations (1.5 wt % Na2O) are reached on the solidus of the system at 8.5 GPa. Clear correlation between Na and Si was established in synthesized garnets; this provides evidence for heterovalent isomorphism of the Mg + Al → Na + Si type with the appearance of Na2MgSi5O12 component as a mechanism of such garnet formation. The Prp-Jd join is also pseudobinary that results from the formation of two series of solid solutions: (1) garnet (Prp-NaGrt-majorite) and (2) pyroxene (Jd-clinoenstatite-Eskola molecule), and the appearance of kyanite at the solidus of the system, where garnets with the highest Na2O contents (>0.8 wt %) are formed. In spite of quite a wide field of garnet crystallization (20–100 mol % Prp), garnets with significant sodium concentration (>0.3 wt % Na2O) are formed in a Jd-rich part of the system (20–50 mol % Prp). In the Prp-Na2CO3 system at 8.5 GPa garnet crystallizes in a wide range of starting compositions as a liquidus mineral containing up to 0.9 wt % Na2O. Our experiments demonstrate that melt alkalinity, as well as PT-parameters control the crystallization of Na-bearing majoritic garnets. The results obtained provide evidence for the fact that the majority of natural diamonds with inclusions of Na-bearing majoritic garnets containing <0.4 wt % Na2O were formed in alkaline silicate (carbonate-silicate) melts at a pressure of <7 GPa. Only a small portion of garnets with higher sodium concentrations (>1 wt % Na2O) could be formed at a pressure of >8.5 GPa. 1 This article was translated by the authors.  相似文献

Germanate garnets are often used as isostructural analogues of silicate garnets to provide insight into the crystal chemistry and symmetry of the less accessible natural garnet solid solutions. We synthesised two series of germanate garnets at 3 GPa along the joinVIIICa3VI(CaGe)IVGe3O12VIIICa3VIFe2IVGe3O12 at 900 °C and 1,100 °C. Samples with compositions close to the CaGeO3 end-member consist of tetragonal garnet with a small amount of triclinic CaGe2O5. Samples with nominal compositions between XFe=0.4 and 1.0 consist of a mixture of tetragonal and cubic garnets; whereas, single-phase cubic garnets were obtained for compositions with XFe>1.2 (XFe gives the iron content expressed in atoms per formula unit, and varies between 0 and 2 along the join). Run products which were primarily single-phase garnet were investigated using Mössbauer spectroscopy. Spectra from samples synthesised at 1,100°C consist of one well-resolved doublet that can be assigned to Fe3+ in the octahedral site of the garnet structure. A second doublet, present primarily in samples synthesised at 900°C, can be assigned to Fe2+ at the octahedral sites of the garnet structure. The relative abundance of Fe2+ decreases with increasing iron content. Transmission electron microscopy analyses confirm this tendency and show that the garnets are essentially defect-free. The unit-cell parameters of tetragonal VIIICa3VI(CaGe)IVGe3O3 garnet decrease with increasing synthesis temperature, and the deviation from cubic symmetry becomes smaller. Cubic garnets show a linear decrease of unit-cell parameter with increasing iron content. The results are discussed in the context of iron incorporation into VIIIMg3VI(MgSi)IVSi3O3 majorite.  相似文献

We present an X-ray absorption near-edge structure study performed at the Yb LI- and LIII-edges on synthetic pyrope (Mg3Al2Si3O12) and grossular (Ca3Al2Si3O12) garnets containing about 1% wt of Yb. For the first time Yb L-edge XANES spectra are analyzed by full multiple scattering theory using clusters of different sizes and different final-state potentials. A comparison between experimental spectra and model calculations indicates that Yb3+ enters the dodecahedral X-site in both pyrope and grossular, in agreement with the results of an EXAFS study. Based on the present results, the charge balancing substitution mechanism required by the replacement of divalent Mg and Ca cations with trivalent Yb3+ is discussed in terms of vacancies in dodecahedral sites surrounding the central Yb3+ absorber. Samples of a garnet granulite from the mafic border units of the Lake Chatuge, Georgia alpine peridotite body were found to contain lamellar intergrowths of a pargastic amphibole in augite having the typical appearance of an exsolution feature. Single crystal X-ray diffraction, optical, electron microprobe and conventional and analytical electron microscopic studies have provided data limiting the compositions and structures of the coexisting phases. Individual lamellae of both materials are from 0.5 to 2.0 m in width with the lamellar interface parallel to {0 1 0}. The formulae of the minerals, as determined by a combination of electron microprobe and analytical electron microscopy, are (Na0.1Ca1.0Mg0.6Fe3+ 0.3)(Si1.8Al0.2)O6 for the pyroxene and Na0.7Ca1.9(Mg2.1Fe2+ 1.4Fe3+ 0.5Ti0.1Cr0.1Al0.8)(Si5.9Al2.1) O22(OH)2 for the amphibole. Several other studies have described intergrowths similar to those observed in this work, in general favoring exsolution as the formation mechanism for the intergrowths. In the Lake Chatuge samples however, replacement of pyroxene by amphibole is in part indicated by continuous gradation of amphibole lamellae into amphiboles rimming the clinopyroxenes.Contribution No. 368 from the Mineralogical Laboratory, Department of Geological Sciences, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan  相似文献

Crystallization of garnet in high-chromium restite formed under the conditions of partial melting in the spinel facies and subsequently subducted into the garnet depth facies was studied experimentally in the MgO–Al2O3–Cr2O3–SiO2 system. The crystallization of garnet and the dependence of its composition on the temperature and bulk composition of the system with low Al concentration were studied as well. Experiments in the knorringite–majorite–pyrope system with 5, 10, and 20 mol % Prp were carried out at 7 GPa. The phase associations for the starting composition of pure knorringite Mg3Cr2Si3O12 included chromiumbearing enstatite MgSiO3 (up to 3.2 wt % Cr2O3) and eskolaite Cr2O3. Addition of Al resulted in crystallization of high-chromium majoritic garnet. The portion of garnet in the samples always exceeded the concentration of pyrope in the starting composition owing to the formation of the complex majorite–knorringite–pyrope series of solid solutions. With increasing content of pyrope (from 5 to 20 mol %) and increasing temperature, the modal concentration of garnet increased significantly (from 6–12 to 22–37%). The garnet was characterized by high concentrations of the pyrope (23–80 mol %) and knorringite (22–70 mol %) components. The excess of Si (>3 f.u.) with decreasing Cr concentration provided evidence for the contribution of the majorite–knorringite trend to the variation in garnet composition. On the basis of the natural data, most of the garnets composing xenoliths of ultrabasic rocks in kimberlites and occurring as inclusions in diamonds are low-chromium; i.e., their protolith was not subjected to partial melting, at least in the spinel depth facies.  相似文献

A detailed study of the chemical composition and substitutions in calcium tourmalines from a scapolite-bearing rare-metal pegmatite vein from the Sol’bel’der River basin has shown that their species attribution is determined by occupancy of octahedral site Y. The composition of the yellow tourmaline most abundant in the central part of the pegmatite bodyis rather constant and characterized by the ideal formula Ca(Mg2Li)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3F. Variations in the chemical composition of zonal tourmaline crystals from the contact part of the pegmatite are controlled by abrupt change in the chemical medium during their formation. The yellow cores of these crystals are close in composition to tourmaline from the central part of the pegmatite vein. The Mg content abruptly decreases toward the crystal margin: Mg2+ → Fe2+, 2Mg2+ → Li+ + Al3+, and Mg2+ + OH → Al3+ + O2−. The composition of dark green marginal zones in tourmaline is characterized by the ideal formula Ca(Al1.5Li1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3 (OH2O)(F). The results indicate specific formation conditions of pegmatite. The crystallochemical formulas of the studied tourmalines allow us to regard them as new mineral species in the tourmaline group.  相似文献

An experimental study of Ca-(Fe,Mg) interdiffusion in silicate garnets   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Ca-(Fe,Mg) interdiffusion experiments between natural single crystals of grossular (Ca2.74Mg0.15 Fe0.23Al1.76Cr0.04Si3.05O12) and almandine (Ca0.21Mg0.40 Fe2.23Mn0.13Al2.00Cr0.08Si2.99O12 or Ca0.43Mg0.36Fe2.11 Al1.95Si3.04O12), were undertaken at 900–1100 °C and 30 kbar, and pressures of 15.0–32.5 kbar at 1000 °C. Samples were buffered by Fe/FeO in most cases. Diffusion profiles were determined by electron microprobe. Across the experimental couples the interdiffusion coefficients () were almost independent of composition. The diffusion rates in an unbuffered sample were significantly faster than in buffered samples. The temperature dependence of the (Ca-Fe,Mg) interdiffusion coefficients may be described by
at 30 kbar and 900–1100 °C. This activation energy is marginally higher than previous experimental studies involving Ca-free garnets; the interdiffusion coefficients are higher than previous studies for Fe-Mg and Fe-Mn exchange in garnet. The pressure dependence of (Ca-Fe,Mg) at 1000 °C yielded an activation volume of 11.2 cm3 mol−1, which is higher than previous results from studies involving garnet and olivine. Comparison with simulation studies suggests a vacancy mechanism for divalent ion migration in garnet, with extrinsic processes being dominant up to very high temperatures. Growing recognition of triple-chain silicates in nature has prompted experimental research into the conditions under which they can form and the extent of solid solution that is feasible for some key chemical substitutions. Experiments were done primarily in the range of 0.1–0.5 GPa and 200–850 °C for durations of 18–1,034 h. A wide range of bulk compositions were explored in this study that can be classified broadly into two groups: those that are Na free and involve various possible chemical substitutions into jimthompsonite (Mg10Si12O32(OH)4), and those that are Na bearing and involve chemical substitutions into the ideal end-member Na4Mg8Si12O32(OH)4. Numerous attempts to synthesize jimthompsonite or clinojimthompsonite were unsuccessful despite the type of starting material used (reagent oxides, magnesite + SiO2, talc + enstatite, or anthophyllite). Similarly, the chemical substitutions of F for OH, Mn2+, Ca2+, or Fe2+ for Mg2+, and 2Li+ for Mg2+ and a vacancy were unsuccessful at nucleating triple-chain silicates. Conversely, nearly pure yields of monoclinic triple-chain silicate could be made at temperatures of 440–630 °C and 0.2 GPa from the composition Na4Mg8Si12O32(OH)4, as found in previous studies, though its composition is most likely depleted in Na as evidenced by electron microprobe and FTIR analysis. Pure yields of triple-chain silicate were also obtained for the F-analog composition Na4Mg8Si12O32F4 at 550–750 °C and 0.2–0.5 GPa if a flux consisting of Na-halide salt and water in a 2:1 ratio by weight was used. In addition, limited chemical substitution could be documented for the substitutions of 2 Na+ for Na+ + H+ and of Mg2+ + vacancy for 2Na+. For the former, the Na content appears to be limited to 2.5 cations giving the ideal composition of Na2.5Mg8Si12O30.5(OH)5.5, while for the latter substitution the Na content may go as low as 1.1 cations giving the composition Na1.1Mg9.4Si12O31.9(OH)4.1 based on a fixed number of Si cations. Further investigation involving Mg for Na cation exchange may provide a pathway for the synthesis of Na-free clinojimthompsonite. Fairly extensive solid solution was also observed for triple-chain silicates made along the compositional join Na4Mg8Si12O32(OH)4–Ca2Mg8Si12O32(OH)4 where the limit of Ca substitution at 450 °C and 0.2 GPa corresponds to Na0.7Ca1.8Mg7.8Si12O31.9(OH)4.1 (with the OH content adjusted to achieve charge balance). Aside from the Na content, this composition is similar to that observed as wide-chain lamellae in host actinolite. The relative ease with which Na-rich triple chains can be made experimentally suggests that these phases might exist in nature; this study provides additional insights into the range of compositions and formation conditions at which they might occur.  相似文献

The compression of synthetic pyrope Mg3Al2 (SiO4)3, almandine Fe3Al2(SiO4)3, spessartine Mn3Al2 (SiO4)3 grossular Ca3Al2(SiO4)3 and andradite Ca3Fe2 (SiO4)3 was studied by loading the crystals together in a diamond anvil cell. The unit-cell parameters were determined as a function of pressure by X-ray diffraction up to 15 GPa using neon as a pressure transmitting medium. The unit-cell parameters of pyrope and almandine were measured up to 33 and 21 GPa, respectively, using helium as a pressure medium. The bulk moduli, K T 0, and their first pressure derivatives, K T 0 , were simultaneously determined for all five garnets by fitting the volume data to a third order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. Both parameters can be further constrained through a comparison of volume compressions between pairs of garnets, giving for K T 0 and K T 0 171(2) GPa and 4.4(2) for pyrope, 185(3) GPa and 4.2(3) for almandine, 189(1) GPa and 4.2 for spessartine, 175(1) GPa and 4.4 for grossular and 157(1) GPa and 5.1 for andradite, where the K T 0 are fixed in the case of spessartine, grossular and andradite. Direct comparisons of the unit-cell volumes determined at high pressures between pairs of garnets reveal anomalous compression behavior for Mg2+ in the 8-fold coordinated triangular dodecahedron in pyrope. This agrees with previous studies concerning the compression behaviors of Mg2+ in 6-fold coordinated polyhedra at high pressures. The results show that simple bulk modulus–volume systematics are not obeyed by garnets. Received: 29 July 1998 / Revised, accepted: 7 April 1999  相似文献

This study is devoted to the physicochemical and mineralogical characterizations of palygorskite from Marrakech High Atlas, Morocco. The raw clay and its Na+-saturated <2 μm fraction were characterized using chemical, structural, and thermal analytical techniques. Measurements of specific surface area and porous volume are reported. The clay fraction was found to be made up of 95 % of palygorskite and 5 % of sepiolite. An original feature of this palygorskite is its deficiency in zeolitic H2O. The half-cell structural formula of its dehydrated form was determined on the basis of 21 oxygens to be (Si7.92Al0.08)(Mg2.15Al1.4Fe0.4Ti0.05 $ \square_{1} $ )(Ca0.03Na0.08K0.04)O21, while the hydrated form could be formulated as (Si7.97Al0.03)(Mg2.17Al1.46Fe0.40Ti0.05)(Ca0.03Na0.07K0,03)O20.18(OH)1.94(OH2)3.88·2.43 H2O. These formulas show that the (Al3++Fe3+)/Mg2+ ratio is around 0.84, revealing a pronounced dioctahedral character. Further, inside its octahedral sheet, it was determined that the inner M1 sites are occupied by vacancies, whereas the M2 sites are shared between 90 % of trivalent cations (78 % for Al3+ and 22 % for Fe3+), 7.5 % of Mg2+, and 2.5 % of Ti4+, all of them linked to 1.94 of structural hydroxyls. The two remaining Mg2+ by half-cell occupy edge M3 sites and are coordinated to 3.88 molecules of OH2. Channels of this palygorskite are deficient in zeolitic H2O since they contain only 2.43 H2O molecules. A correlation was found between these results and the observation of very intense and well-resolved FTIR bands arising from dioctahedral domains (mainly Al2OH, Fe2OH, and AlFeOH) along with very small responses from a trioctahedral domain (Mg3OH). Accordingly, a schematic representation of the composition of the octahedral sheet was proposed. The cation exchange capacity, specific surface area, and total pore volume were also assessed to be ca. 21.2 meq/100 g, 116 m2/g, and 0.458 cm3/g, respectively.  相似文献

Uvarovite (Ca3Cr2Si3O12) forms a complete solid solution series with grossularite (Ca3Al2Si3O12) below 855 ± 5 ° C at a total pressure of 1 atm. Pure uvarovite decomposes to pwo (CaSiO3) + esk (Cr2O3) at 1385 ± 10 ° C. The incorporation of about 5 wt-% of Ca3Al2 Si3O12 component in the uvarovite structure raises the thermal stability of the garnetss to 1410 ± 5 ° C, and uvarovite95 grossularite05 melts incongruently to pwo (CaSiO3) + coreskss ((Al, Cr)2O3) + L. Pure grossularite decomposes to wo (CaSi03) + geh (Ca2Al2SiO7) + and (CaAl2Si2O8) at 855 ± 5 ° C, grossularite thermal stability is increased by incorporation of Ca3Cr2Si3O12 component by 530 ° C. At 1280±5 ° C coreskss + L react to garss + geh + an defining an invariant tequilibrium of the CaO-Cr2O3-Al2O3-SiO2 quaternary system. Liquid reacts to garss + pwo + geh + an at 1263 ±5 ° C terminating univariant and divariant liquid relations occurring along the join Ca3Cr2Si3O12-Ca3Al2Si3O12. The unit-cell parameter for uvarovite is 11.996(2) Å, the refractive index 1.865(3). The substitution of Cr by Al decreases a and n almost linearly toward the grossularite end member which displays a unit-cell parameter of 11.848(2) Å and a refractive index of 1.732 (1).  相似文献

Dense isotropic polycrystalline specimens of majorite-rich garnets (Py100, Py62Mj38, Py50Mj50, Py21Mj79 and Mj100) along the pyrope (Mg3Al2Si3O12 = Py100)-majorite (MgSiO3 = Mj100) join were fabricated in a 2000-ton uniaxial split-sphere anvil apparatus (USSA-2000) at pressures from 10 to 18.5 GPa and temperatures from 1200 to 1850 °C, within their stability fields in runs of 2–4-h duration, using hot-pressing techniques developed by Gwanmesia et al. (1993). These specimens are single-phased, fine-grained (≤5 mm), free of microcracks, and have bulk densities greater than 99% of the corresponding single-crystal X-ray density. Elastic compressional (P) and shear (S) wave velocities were determined at room pressure and temperature for these polycrystalline garnet specimens by phase comparison ultrasonic interferometry. For Mj100, the P and S wave velocities are within 1% of the Hashin-Shtrikman averages calculated from the single crystal elastic moduli measured by Brillouin spectroscopy. Both the elastic bulk modulus (K) and the shear modulus (G) decrease continuously with increasing majorite content from pyrope garnet (Py100) to pure majorite garnet (Mj100). The compositional dependence of K and G are given by K = 172.3 (40) − 0.085X, and G = 91.6 (10) − 0.038X, where X = mol% majorite), respectively, indicating that substitution of Si for Mg and Al decreases both K and G by about 5% along the solid solution series.
