The power spectral density of cosmic ray fluctuations observed at ground level during the years 1966–1968 has been calculated. In order to obtain the correct shape of the spectrum, the Fast Fourier Transform method with a triangular data window was used and corrections were made for uncorrelated errors and aliasing effects. When ignoring the Earth rotation peaks, the spectral index , for a sample of polar, middle latitude and equatorial stations, is − 1.96 in the frequency range 3 × 10−7–10−4 Hz. A possible break around 10−5 Hz, if existing, would be, on the whole, barely significant as a would change from − 1.96 to − 2.10. There are indications that beyond 10−4 Hz up to 7 × 10−3 Hz the spectrum continues with − 2.  相似文献

A time-delay concept is described to play a vital role in a hypothesis of the mechanism of the solar total irradiance variation driven by time variation of the thermal structure of the solar convection zone, with time scales on the order of 10 to 10000 years. The hypothesis is formulated on an empirical basis from an analysis of the observed data of the magnetic field of the Sun and of the global land-air temperature anomalies of the Earth, with the assumption that the land area of the Earth can be a good recorder of the solar total irradiance variation in the past. As a result of the assumption within the context of the present hypothesis, it was found that the solar total irradiance increase and the global warming of the Earth from the early 20th century to the present time could be caused by release of heat stored in the solar convection zone in the Maunder Minimum of the 17th century.  相似文献

The orbit of Intercosmos 13 rocket (1975-22B) has been determined at 103 epochs between 30 April 1975 and 10 April 1980 from almost 7000 observations. One hundred and three values of inclination have been determined and corrections incoporated for the effects due to zonal harmonic, lunisolar and tesseral harmonic perturbations, precession, and solid Earth tides. The modified data have been analysed to yield values of the atmospheric rotation rate, Λ rev day−1, viz. Λ = 0.94 ± 0.10 at an average height of 322 ± 6 km and Λ = 1.27 ± 0.02 at 288 km. Analysis of the inclination near 14th-order resonance has indicated lumped harmonic values 109 1.01.4 = − 76.13 ± 12.47, 109 1,014 = − 29.89 ± 32.64, 109 −1.214 = − 63.11 ± 15.44 109 −1.214 = − 32.52 ± 26.96, for inclination 82.952°.  相似文献

In this paper, two factors — the redistribution of the density and the variation in the angular velocity of the Earth rotation, that affect the adopted value of the flattening for equidensity surface within the Earth, are discussed. The computational results show that the contribution of the redistribution of the density in the Earth interior (especially in the core) on the change of the flattening at the core-mantle boundary (CMB) is marginal, and that the calculated value of the flattening at the CMB can be in good agreement with the VLBI observed value so long as the fact that the angular velocity of the Earth rotation has undergone the tidal evolution is taken into account. As a result, this paper presents a set of recommended values of the dynamical parameters of the Earth (see Table III) for computing Earth's forced nutation series.  相似文献

The long period variation of the earth rotation is generally explained by the tidal friction. The tidal friction, however, is not the only source to influence the earth rotation in long term. In this paper, by means of the interaction between the solar wind and the magnetosphere of the earth, the additional magnetic pressure will exist in the magnetic tail due to the crowding and sparseness of the magnetic lines in the consideration of the earth rotation, which could be considered as a source of effecting the long term variation of the earth rotation. It is shown in this paper that this mechanism can produce angular deceleration of the Earth rotation in the magnitude of ω = −1.7 × 10-22 s-2. This result might be a prompt to search for other sources in the secular variation of the rate of the Earth rotation variation further in order to regulate the observed result with the theoretical one. We discuss the possibility of accurately estimating the source number density of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) using small-scale anisotropy in their arrival distribution. The arrival distribution has information on their source and source distribution. We calculate the propagation of UHE protons in a structured extragalactic magnetic field (EGMF) and simulate their arrival distribution at the Earth using our previously developed method. The source number density that can best reproduce observational results by Akeno Giant Air Shower Array is estimated at about 10−5 Mpc−3 in a simple source model. Despite having large uncertainties of about one order of magnitude, due to small number of observed events in current status, we find that more detection of UHECRs in the Auger era can sufficiently decrease this so that the source number density can be more robustly estimated. Two hundred event observation above 4 × 1019 eV in a hemisphere can discriminate between 10−5 and 10−6 Mpc−3. Number of events to discriminate between 10−4 and 10−5 Mpc−3 is dependent on EGMF strength. We also discuss the same in another source model in this paper.  相似文献

Using 1658 normal points of the McDonald lunar ranging data in the period 1971.6–1979.0, I calculated the Earth's rotation curve, and found an offset of −330 × 10−10 for UT1 – UTC. The difference between the UT1 values given by the lunar data and BIH is 3.6 ms. This difference and the standard error of single determinations increase with increasing interval length used in the data reduction. This is shown to be due to the neglect of the secular term in UT1-UTC. It appears that an interval length of 2 days is suitable when calculating the Earth's rotation.  相似文献

It is generally accepted that the Earth-Moon separation is at present increasing due to tidal dissipation. Values for the corresponding lunar deceleration and the related slowing of the Earth's rotation are obtained from astronomical observations and by studies of ancient eclipses. Extrapolation of these values leads to a close approach of the Earth and Moon 1–3 b.y. BP. However, justification for such an extrapolation is required. It has been hypothesized that periodicities in the Precambrian stromatolites can be used to determine the number of solar days in a lunar month prior to 500 m.y. BP. These data combined with dynamic constraints on the number of solar days in a lunar month indicate a close approach of the Earth and Moon at 2.85 ± 0.25 b.y. BP. It is suggested that the mare volcanism on the Moon and high-temperature Archean volcanism on the Earth prior to this date were caused by tidal heating. It is also suggested that the strong tidal heating during a close approach could have contributed to the formation of the first living organisms.  相似文献

Approximation formulae describing the long-term changes in the rotation of the Earth are evaluated. The time scale reduction from Universal to Ephemeris Time can be accomplished by a 12th degree polynomial with a mean error of less than one second for the entire time span 1800–1988. The maximum residuals of least squares fits of the 19th and 20th century data, respectively, can be limited to this accuracy by even simpler expressions.  相似文献

Data taken during 1997 with the AMANDA-B10 detector are searched for a diffuse flux of neutrinos of all flavors with energies above 1016 eV. At these energies the Earth is opaque to neutrinos, and thus neutrino induced events are concentrated at the horizon. The background are large muon bundles from down-going atmospheric air shower events. No excess events above the background expectation are observed and a neutrino flux following E−2, with an equal mix of all flavors, is limited to E2Φ(1015 eV < E < 3 × 1018 eV)  0.99 × 10−6 GeV cm−2 s−1 sr−1 at 90% confidence level. This is the most restrictive experimental bound placed by any neutrino detector at these energies. Bounds to specific extraterrestrial neutrino flux predictions are also presented.  相似文献

In a previous paper of this series (Tokis, 1974b), we have discussed the solution of the Eulerian equation which governs the axial rotation, applied to the effects of viscous friction exhibited in binary systems which consist of a close pair of fluid bodies of arbitrary structure. The aim of the present paper will be to give an application of those results to the Earth-Moon system. It is shown that synchronism between the axial rotation of the Earth and the revolution of the Moon will occur at the value of 650 h, in a time scale which depends strongly on the value of the mean viscosity of the Earth (regarded as spherical or spheroidal). In particular, the variation of rotational angular velocity of the Earth over the next ten centuries commencing from 1900 A.D., depends sensitively on the value of viscosity. On the other hand, the time for synchronism of axial rotation of the Moon is not affected by the viscosity for values between 1024g cm?1 s?1 and 1027g cm?1 s?1.  相似文献

The realization that solar activity probably undergoes changes in qualitative character on time scales greater than the 11 or 22 year cycle but short compared to the duration of recorded history gives renewed importance to historical documents describing the state of solar activity. Modern eclipse observation reveal the presence of solar activity through the appearance of coronal structures and prominences. It has been widely remarked that eclipse records prior to the 18th century are uniformly silent on these conspicuous solar eclipse features, raising the possibility, however unlikely, that a change in solar activity has occurred which rendered them only recently noticeable. We present here material from ancient Chinese sources, primarily astrological, that describe phenomena attending solar eclipses that are almost certainly coronal structures and prominences. Thus, these aspects of the present character of solar activity have apparently occurred at other times in history, if not continuously.  相似文献

Some geophysical parameters, such as those related to gravitation and the geomagnetic field, could change during solar eclipses. In order to observe geomagnetic fluctuations, geomagnetic measurements were carried out in a limited time frame during the partial solar eclipse that occurred on 2011 January 4 and was observed in Canakkale and Ankara, Turkey. Additionally, records of the geomagnetic field spanning 24 hours, obtained from another observatory(in Iznik, Turkey), were also analyzed to check for any peculiar variations. In the data processing stage, a polynomial fit, following the application of a running average routine, was applied to the geomagnetic field data sets. Geomagnetic field data sets indicated there was a characteristic decrease at the beginning of the solar eclipse and this decrease can be well-correlated with previous geomagnetic field measurements that were taken during the total solar eclipse that was observed in Turkey on 2006 March 29. The behavior of the geomagnetic field is also consistent with previous observations in the literature. As a result of these analyses, it can be suggested that eclipses can cause a shielding effect on the geomagnetic field of the Earth.  相似文献

In this paper we have examined the real behaviour of solar activity during the period AD 1400–1600. The results are as follows: (1) the distributions of the 20 naked-eye sunspot records are inhomogeneous. There are 2 sightings in the 15th century and 18 sightings in the 16th century; (2) the distributions of auroral records are similar to sunspot. There are 33 records in the 15th century and 315 records in the 16th century; (3) the climatic fluctuations in China shows that the period AD 1430–1520 was cold while the period AD 1520–1620 was warm. These facts clearly demonstrate that the Spörer Minimum, if it extended from AD 1460 to 1550, could be a specious results and it, if its extent was AD 1400–1510, is a real feature of solar variability in that time.Paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September–6 October, 1984.  相似文献

The methods of analysis of the light changes of eclipsing variables in the frequency-domain, developed in our previous papers (Kopal 1975a, b, c, d) for an interpretation of mutual eclipses in systems consisting of spherical stars, have now been extended to analyse the light variations — between minima as well as within eclipses — ofclose binaries whose components are distorted by axial rotation and mutual tidal action. Following a brief introduction (Section 1) in which the need of this new approach will be expounded, in Sections 2 and 3 we shall deduce the theoretical changes of close eclipsing systems between minima (Section 2) as well as within eclipses (Section 3), which in Sections 4 and 5 will be analysed in the frequency-domain; and explicit formulae obtained which should enable us to separate the photometric proximity and eclipse effects directly from the observed data as they stand-without the need of any preliminary ‘rectification’. Section 6 will contain the explicit forms of the expressions for photometric perturbations in the frequency-domain, due to rotational and tidal distortion of both stars; and the concluding Section 7 will then be concerned with practical aspects of the application of these new methods to an analysis of the observed light changes of close eclipsing systems — in which the proximity and eclipse effects cannot be distinguished from each other by mere inspection.  相似文献
