For earthquake ground motion studies, the actual ground motion distribution should be reproduced as accurately as possible. For optimal estimation of ground motion, kriging has been shown to provide accurate estimates. Although kriging is accurate for this application, some estimates it provides are underestimates. This has dire consequences for subsequent design for earthquake resistance. Kriging does not provide enough information to allow an analysis of each estimate for underestimation. For such an application, disjunctive kriging is better applied. This advanced technique quantifies the probability that an estimate equals or exceeds particular levels of ground motion. Furthermore, disjunctive kriging can provide improved estimation accuracy when applied for local estimation of ground motion.  相似文献

Comparison of kriging techniques in a space-time context   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Space-time processes constitute a particular class, requiring suitable tools in order to predict values in time and space, such as a space-time variogram or covariance function. The space-time co-variance function is defined and linked to the Linear Model of Coregionalization under second-order space-time stationarity. Simple and ordinary space-time kriging systems are compared to simple and ordinary cokriging and their differences for unbiasedness conditions are underlined. The ordinary space-time kriging estimation then is applied to simulated data. Prediction variances and prediction errors are compared with those for ordinary kriging and cokriging under different unbiasedness conditions using a cross-validation. The results show that space-time kriging tend to produce lower prediction variances and prediction errors that kriging and cokriging.  相似文献

Indicator cokriging is an alternative to disjunctive kriging for estimation of spatial distributions. One way to determine which of these techniques is more accurate for estimation of spatial distributions is to apply each to a particular type of data. A procedure is developed for evaluation of disjunctive kriging and indicator cokriging for such an application. Application of this procedure to earthquake ground motion data found disjunctive kriging to be at least as accurate as indicator cokriging for estimation of spatial distributions of peak horizontal acceleration. Indicator cokriging was superior for all other types of earthquake ground motion data.  相似文献

Sampling design optimization for spatial functions   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
A new procedure is presented for minimizing the sampling requirements necessary to estimate a mappable spatial function at a specified level of accuracy. The technique is based on universal kriging, an estimation method within the theory of regionalized variables. Neither actual implementation of the sampling nor universal kriging estimations are necessary to make an optimal design. The average standard errorand maximum standard error of estimationover the sampling domain are used as global indices of sampling efficiency. The procedure optimally selects those parameters controlling the magnitude of the indices, including the density and spatial pattern of the sample elements and the number of nearest sample elements used in the estimation. As an illustration, the network of observation wells used to monitor the water table in the Equus Beds of Kansas is analyzed and an improved sampling pattern suggested. This example demonstrates the practical utility of the procedure, which can be applied equally well to other spatial sampling problems, as the procedure is not limited by the nature of the spatial function.  相似文献

In the last few years, an increasing number of practical studies using so-called kriging estimation procedures have been published. Various terms, such as universal kriging, lognormal kriging, ordinary kriging, etc., are used to define different estimation procedures, leaving a certain confusion about what kriging really is. The object of this paper is to show what is the common backbone of all these estimation procedures, thus justifying the common name of kriging procedures. The word kriging (in French krigeage) is a concise and convenient term to designate the classical procedure of selecting, within agiven class of possible estimators, the estimator with a minimum estimation variance (i.e., the estimator which leads to a minimum variance of the resulting estimation error). This estimation variance can be seen as a squared distance between the unknown value and its estimator; the process of minimization of this distance can then be seen as the projection of the unknown value onto the space within which the search for an estimator is carried out.  相似文献

An Alternative Measure of the Reliability of Ordinary Kriging Estimates   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
This paper presents an interpolation variance as an alternative to the measure of the reliability of ordinary kriging estimates. Contrary to the traditional kriging variance, the interpolation variance is data-values dependent, variogram dependent, and a measure of local accuracy. Natural phenomena are not homogeneous; therefore, local variability as expressed through data values must be recognized for a correct assessment of uncertainty. The interpolation variance is simply the weighted average of the squared differences between data values and the retained estimate. Ordinary kriging or simple kriging variances are the expected values of interpolation variances; therefore, these traditional homoscedastic estimation variances cannot properly measure local data dispersion. More precisely, the interpolation variance is an estimate of the local conditional variance, when the ordinary kriging weights are interpreted as conditional probabilities associated to the n neighboring data. This interpretation is valid if, and only if, all ordinary kriging weights are positive or constrained to be such. Extensive tests illustrate that the interpolation variance is a useful alternative to the traditional kriging variance.  相似文献

Comparison of approaches to spatial estimation in a bivariate context   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The problem of estimating a regionalized variable in the presence of other secondary variables is encountered in spatial investigations. Given a context in which the secondary variable is known everywhere (or can be estimated with great precision), different estimation methods are compared: regression, regression with residual simple kriging, kriging, simple kriging with a mean obtained by regression, kriging with an external drift, and cokriging. The study focuses on 19 pairs of regionalized variables from five different datasets representing different domains (geochemical, environmental, geotechnical). The methods are compared by cross-validation using the mean absolute error as criterion. For correlations between the principal and secondary variable under 0.4, similar results are obtained using kriging and cokriging, and these methods are superior slightly to the other approaches in terms of minimizing estimation error. For correlations greater than 0.4, cokriging generally performs better than other methods, with a reduction in mean absolute errors that can reach 46% when there is a high degree of correlation between the variables. Kriging with an external drift or kriging the residuals of a regression (SKR) are almost as precise as cokriging.  相似文献

Correcting the Smoothing Effect of Ordinary Kriging Estimates   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The smoothing effect of ordinary kriging is a well-known dangerous effect associated with this estimation technique. Consequently kriging estimates do not reproduce both histogram and semivariogram model of sample data. A four-step procedure for correcting the smoothing effect of ordinary kriging estimates is shown to be efficient for the reproduction of histogram and semivariogram without loss of local accuracy. Furthermore, this procedure provides a unique map sharing both local and global accuracies. Ordinary kriging with a proper correction for smoothing effect can be revitalized as a reliable estimation method that allows a better use of the available information.  相似文献

Under usual estimation practice with local search windows for data and for interpolation situations, universal kriging and ordinary kriging yield the same estimates, using a data set with apparent trend, for both the unknown attribute and its trend component. Modeling the trend matters only in extrapolation situations. Because conditions of the case study presented arise most frequently in practice, the simpler ordinary kriging is the preferred option.  相似文献

The performance of several variations on ordinary kriging and inverse distance estimators is evaluated. Mean squared errors (MSE) were calculated for estimates made on multiple resamplings from five exhaustive data bases representing two distinctly different types of estimation problem. Ordinary kriging, when performed with variograms estimated from the sample data, was more robust than inverse-distance methods to the type of estimation problem, and to the choice of estimation parameters such as number of neighbors.Notice: Although the research described in this article has been funded in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency through Cooperative Agreement CR818526 to the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, it has not been subjected to Agency review. Smoothing is a characteristic inherent to all minimum mean-square-error spatial estimators such as kriging. Cross-validation can be used to detect and model such smoothing. Inversion of the model produces a new estimator—compensated kriging. A numerical comparison based on an exhaustive permeability sampling of a 4-ft2 slab of Berea Sandstone shows that the estimation surface generated by compensated kriging has properties intermediate between those generated by ordinary kriging and stochastic realizations resulting from simulated annealing and sequential Gaussian simulation. The frequency distribution is well reproduced by the compensated kriging surface, which also approximates the experimental semivariogram well—better than ordinary kriging, but not as well as stochastic realizations. Compensated kriging produces surfaces that are more accurate than stochastic realizations, but not as accurate as ordinary kriging.  相似文献

Geostatistics provides a suite of methods, summarized as kriging, to analyze a finite data set to describe a continuous property of the Earth. Kriging methods consist of moving window optimum estimation techniques, which are based on a least-squares principle and use a spatial structure function, usually the variogram. Applications of kriging techniques have become increasingly wide-spread, with ordinary kriging and universal kriging being the most popular ones. The dependence of the final map or model on the input, however, is not generally understood. Herein we demonstrate how changes in the kriging parameters and the neighborhood search affect the cartographic result. Principles are illustrated through a glaciological study. The objective is to map ice thickness and subglacial topography of Storglaciären, Kebnekaise Massif, northern Sweden, from several sets of radio-echo soundings and hot water drillings. The issue of smoothing in kriging has been addressed either by estimation or simulation. The solution via estimation calls for postprocessing kriging estimates in order to correct the smoothing effect. Stochastic simulation provides equiprobable images presenting no smoothing and reproducing the covariance model. Consequently, these images reproduce both the sample histogram and the sample semivariogram. However, there is still a problem, which is the lack of local accuracy of simulated images. In this paper, a postprocessing algorithm for correcting the smoothing effect of ordinary kriging estimates is compared with sequential Gaussian simulation realizations. Based on samples drawn from exhaustive data sets, the postprocessing algorithm is shown to be superior to any individual simulation realization yet, at the expense of providing one deterministic estimate of the random function.  相似文献

依据北江(珠江流域支流)流域6个水文测站年最大洪峰流量资料,分别用Top-kriging(拓扑克里格法)和普通克里格法进行区域洪水频率估计。采用均方根误差作为频率分布线型拟合优度指标。运用线性矩法进行单站洪水频率分析,确定10、50、100、1000年一遇设计洪水值。在此基础上,从Topkriging和普通克里格法设计洪水估计不确定性和相对线性矩法单站洪水频率的估计误差两个方面比较Top-kriging和普通克里格法。结果表明:(1)Top-kriging法是更好的线性无偏估计,相比普通克里格法更适合于区域洪水频率估计;(2)Top-kriging法设计洪水估计不确定性明显小于普通克里格法;(3)Top-kriging法设计洪水估计结果更接近线性矩法单站洪水频率分析结果。  相似文献

A saltwater intrusion study using electrical resistivity distribution was conducted in a coastal aquifer system in the southeastern part of Busan, Korea. This aquifer system is divided into four layers according to the hydrogeologic characteristics, and the horizontal extent of intruded saltwater is determined at each layer through the geostatistical interpretation of electrical resistivity data. Intrinsic random function of order k (IRF-k) kriging is performed with covariance models to produce the plane of spatial mean resistivities. The kriged estimates are evaluated by cross validation, and they showed a good agreement with the true values. The statistics of cross validation represented low errors for the estimates. In the resistivity contour maps more than 5 m below the surface, a dominant direction of saltwater intrusion was observed beginning from the east side. These results led the authors to conclude that the application of geostatistical technique to electrical resistivity data is useful for assessing saltwater intrusion in a coastal aquifer system.  相似文献

Frequently, regionalized positive variables are treated by preliminarily applying a logarithm, and kriging estimates are back-transformed using classical formulae for the expectation of a lognormal random variable. This practice has several problems (lack of robustness, non-optimal confidence intervals, etc.), particularly when estimating block averages. Therefore, many practitioners take exponentials of the kriging estimates, although the final estimations are deemed as non-optimal. Another approach arises when the nature of the sample space and the scale of the data are considered. Since these concepts can be suitably captured by an Euclidean space structure, we may define an optimal kriging estimator for positive variables, with all properties analogous to those of linear geostatistical techniques, even for the estimation of block averages. In this particular case, no assumption on preservation of lognormality is needed. From a practical point of view, the proposed method coincides with the median estimator and offers theoretical ground to this extended practice. Thus, existing software and routines remain fully applicable.  相似文献

Restricted kriging for mixture of grade models   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A modified type of kriging, referred to as restricted kriging (RK), is proposed in this study. The method incorporates constraints on different grade classes to restrict the influence of the samples having different likelihoods in estimation. RK is motivated by the estimation of mineral reserves when grades have highly skewed distributions. Ordinary kriging tends to produce an overly smoothed interpolated surface by underestimating high grades and overestimating low grades. The fact that ordinary kriging gives a uniform prior treatment to all samples independent of their values is a major factor associated with this smoothing effect. The new approach differentiates each grade portion by preselected cutoffs. RK is developed for a single cutoff and then extended into a general form for any finite number of cutoffs. Restricted cokriging (RCK) is also formulated to simultaneously estimate a set of random functions with restriction conditions. Methods are suggested for determination of the probabilities of occurrence of different grade portions. Finally, the new approach is demonstrated on a case study of an epithermal gold deposit.  相似文献

Three univariate geostatistical methods of estimation are applied to a geochemical data set. The studied methods are: ordinary kriging (cross-validation), factorial kriging, and indicator kriging. These techniques use the probabilistic and spatial behaviour of geochemical variables, giving a tool for identifying potential anomalous areas to locate mineralization. Ordinary kriging is easy to apply and to interpret the results. It has the advantage of using the same experimental grid points for its estimates, and no additional grid points are needed. Factorial kriging decomposes the raw variable into as many components as there are identified structures in the variogram. This, however, is a complex method and its application is more difficult than that of ordinary or indicator kriging. The main advantages of indicator kriging are that data are used by their rank order, being more robust about outlier values, and that the presentation of results is simple. Nevertheless, indicator kriging is incapable of separating anomalous values and the high values from the background, which have a behaviour different to the anomaly. In this work, the results of the application of these 3 kriging methods to a set of mineral exploration data obtained from a geochemical survey carried out in NW Spain are presented. This area is characterised by the presence of Au mineral occurrences. The kriging methods were applied to As, considered as a pathfinder of Au in this area. Numerical treatment of Au is not applicable, because it presents most values equal to the detection limit, and a series of extreme values. The results of the application of ordinary kriging, factorial kriging and indicator kriging to As make possible the location of a series of rich values, sited along a N–S shear zone, considered a structure related to the presence of Au.  相似文献
