Studies of the extreme solar proton event of January 20, 2005 intensified the contest over of a long-standing problem: are solar cosmic rays arriving at the Earth accelerated by solar flares or by shocks preceding rapidly moving coronal mass ejections? Among the most important questions is the relationship between the energy spectra of the solar cosmic rays and the frequency spectra of flare microwave bursts. Some studies of previous solar-activity cycles have shown that such a relationship does exist, in particular, for protons with energies of tens of MeV. The present work analyzes this relation using data for 1987–2008. For flare events observed in the western half of the disk, there is a significant correlation between the index δ, which is equivalent to the power-law index of the integrated energy spectrum of 10–100 MeV protons detected near the Earth’s orbit, and radio burst parameters such as a ratio of peak fluxes S at two frequencies (for example, at 9 and 15 GHz) and a microwave peak frequency f m . Proton fluxes with hard (flat) energy spectra (δ ≤ 1.5) correspond to hard microwave frequency spectra (S 9/S 15 ≤ 1 and f m ≥ 15 GHz), while flares with soft radio spectra (S 9/S 15 ≥ 1.5 and f m ≤ 5 GHz) result in proton fluxes with soft (steep) energy spectra (δ ≥ 1.5–2). It is also shown that powerful high-frequency bursts with the hardest radio spectra (f m ≈ 30 GHz) can point at acceleration of significant proton fluxes in flares occurring in strong magnetic fields. These results argue that solar cosmic rays (or at least their initial impulses) are mainly accelerated in flares associated with impulsive and post-eruptive energy release, rather than in shocks driven by coronal mass ejections.  相似文献

Low-frequency pulsations of 22 and 37 GHz microwave radiation detected during solar flares are analyzed. Several microwave bursts observed at the Metsähovi Radio Observatory are studied with time resolutions of 100 and 50 ms. A fast Fourier transformation with a sliding window and the Wigner-Ville method are used to obtain frequency-time diagrams for the low-frequency pulsations, which are interpreted as natural oscillations of coronal magnetic loops; the dynamical spectra of the pulsations are synthesized for the first time. Three types of low-frequency fluctuations modulating the flare microwave radiation can be distinguished in the observations. First, there are fast and slow magneto-acoustic oscillations with periods of 0.5–0.8 s and 200–280 s, respectively. The fast magneto-acoustic oscillations appear as trains of narrow-band signals with durations of 100–200 s, a positive frequency drift dν/dt=0.25 MHz/min, and frequency splitting δν=0.01–0.05 Hz. Second, there are natural oscillations of the coronal magnetic loops as equivalent electrical circuits. These oscillations have periods of 0.5–10 s and positive or negative frequency drift rates dν/dt=8×10?3 Hz/min or dν/dt=?1.3×10?2 Hz/min, depending on the phase of the radio outburst. Third, there are modulations of the microwave radiation by short periodic pulses with a period of 20 s. The dynamical spectra of the low-frequency pulsations supply important information about the parameters of the magnetic loops: the ratio of the loop radius to its length r/L≈0.1, the plasma parameter β≈10?3, the ratio of the plasma densities outside and inside the loop ρei≈10?2, and the electrical current flowing along the loop I≈1012 A.  相似文献

A natural sample of clinochlore from the Longitudinal Valley area of northeastern Taiwan has been characterized by using the powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic techniques. The lattice parameters of the monoclinic (IIb) clinochlore with the composition (Mg2.988 Al1.196 Fe1.6845 Mn0.026)5.8945 (Si2.559 Al1.441)4 O10 (OH)8 have been calculated from the powder XRD data and are found to be a = 5.347 Å, b = 9.223 Å, c = 14.250 Å, β = 97.2° and Z = 2. The thermal behaviour of the sample showed the typical behaviour of clinochlore with a hydroxyl content of 12.5 wt%. The EPR spectrum at room temperature exhibits two resonance signals centred at g ≈ 2.0 and g ≈ 8.0. The signal at g ≈ 2.0 shows a six-line hyperfine structure which is a characteristic of Mn2+ ions in octahedral symmetry. The resonance signal at g ≈ 8.0 is a characteristic of Fe3+ ions. The EPR spectra have also been recorded at different temperatures (123–295 K). The population of spin levels (N) has been calculated for g ≈ 2.0 and g ≈ 8.0 resonance signals. It is observed that N increases with decreasing temperature. From EPR spectra, the spin-Hamiltonian parameters have been evaluated. The zero-field splitting parameter (D) is found to be temperature dependent. The peak-to-peak width of the g ≈ 8.0 resonance signal is found to increase with decrease in temperature.  相似文献

Comparisons of the brightness distributions of the white corona observed at distances of several solar radii with solar wind velocities derived from interplanetary-scintillation observations, as well as analyses of solar wind data obtained on spacecraft from December 1994 to June 1995, indicate that the fast solar wind can contain plasma with velocities V ≈ 300–450 km/s, approaching those typical for the slow solar wind that flows in the streamer belt and chains of streamers. At the same time, certain other parameters, first and foremost the plasma density N and ratio T/N 0.5 (where T is the temperature), indicate that these two flows differ considerably. The slow solar wind flowing in the streamer belt and chains displays high densities N > 10 ± 2 cm?3 and low T/N 0.5 < 1.7 × 104 K cm3/2 at the Earth’s orbit. The number of slow solar-wind sources observed in chains can be comparable with the number observed in the belt. The fast solar wind flowing from coronal holes always displays low densities N≤ 8 cm?3 and high T/N 0.5 > 1.7 × 104 K cm3/2. These properties probably indicate different origins of the fast and slow solar winds.  相似文献

Data from the ULEIS instrument aboard the ACE spacecraft are used to study the energy spectra of 3He and 4He ions produced during periods of the quiet Sun in the 23rd solar cycle in the energy range ~0.08–2 MeV/nucleon. Differences in the spectra and 3He/4He relative abundances for three groups of quiet periods dominated by different sources of ions are demonstrated: weak impulsive solar flares, particles of the solar corona, and solar wind particles accelerated to energies of several MeV/nucleon.  相似文献

The relative abundances of suprathermal (with energies ~0.04–2 MeV/nucleon) 3He, 4He, C, O, and Fe ions and the energy spectra of 3He and Fe ions in near-Earth space during quiescent periods of solar activity are studied. Measurements obtained with the ULEIS instrument onboard the ACE spacecraft during the 23rd and 24th solar cycles are used. Substantial differences in the energy spectra of suprathermal ions in the 23rd and 24th solar cycles are observed for the selected quiescent periods. Appreciable differences in the energy dependences of the relative ion abundances are also found. One possible explanation for the results obtained is that the background ions were accelerated to suprathrmal energies under different conditions in the solar corona in these two cycles.  相似文献

Electron transport properties of single crystal and polycrystalline natural mineral galena (PbS) samples from the Trep?a mine, Yugoslavia, were determined using the photoacoustic frequency transmission technique. Their thermal diffusivity (D T≈0.16 × 10?5 m2 s?1), the coefficient of diffusion (D between 0.15×10?2 0.16×10?2 m2 s?1) and lifetime of the excess carrier (τ≈35 μs and the front and rear recombination velocity (s g≈65.5 m s?1 and s b≈66.4 m s?1, respectively), were calculated by comparing the experimental results and the theoretical photoacoustic amplitude and phase signals. The lattice parameter obtained by X-ray work was a?=5.936?Å. The free carrier concentration of these single-crystal samples was measured using the Hall method (N?=?3×1018 cm?3). Measurements of the optical reflectivity of the same samples, as a function of wavelength, in the infrared and far infrared ranges, were performed. In the far infrared range a free electron plasma frequency was observed and numerically analyzed, using the least-squares fitting procedure. The values of optical parameters were calculated and the value of the free carrier concentration obtained by the Hall method was confirmed.  相似文献

The structure of shocks propagating through partially ionized hydrogen gas with characteristics typical of the atmospheres of RR Lyr, W Vir, and RV Tau type variables is analyzed in terms of a self-consistent solution of the equations of gas dynamics, atomic kinetics, and radiation transfer. The solutions were obtained for shock waves with velocities 20 km/s≤U 1≤90 km/s and unperturbed hydrogen gas with temperatures 3000 K≤T 1≤9000 K and density ρ1=10?10 g/cm3. The fraction of the energy of the gas-dynamic flux converted into radiation increases with the shock amplitude, and the ratio of the radiation flux emitted by the shock to the gas kinetic energy flux is 0.4???0.8 for the velocities U 1 considered. This ratio also increases slightly with the ambient gas temperature T 1 due to an increase in hydrogen ionization in the radiative precursor. The flux emitted by the leading edge of the shock opposite to the gas flow is several percent higher than the flux emitted in the opposite direction by the trailing edge of the shock. Radiation is mostly concentrated in the Balmer continuum, and the region of efficient Lyman radiation transfer includes gas layers located near the viscous jump (δX=±104 cm). The final gas-compression ratio in units of the limiting compression corresponding to an isothermal approximation is virtually independent of the shock amplitude, and increases with the unperturbed gas temperature from r≈0.5 at T 1=3000 K to r≈0.9 at T 1=9000 K.  相似文献

Particles can be accelerated to ultrahigh energies E≈1021 eV in moderate Seyfert nuclei. This acceleration occurs in shock fronts in relativistic jets. The maximum energy and chemical composition of the accelerated particles depend on the magnetic field in the jet, which is not well known; fields in the range ~5–1000 G are considered in the model. The highest energies of E≈1021 eV are acquired by Fe nuclei when the field in the jet is B≈16 G. When B~(5–40) G, nuclei with Z<10 are accelerated to E≤1020 eV, while nuclei with Z≥10 acquire energies E≥2×1020 eV. Only particles with Z≥23 acquire energies E≤1020 eV when B~1000 G. Protons are accelerated to E<4×1019 eV, and do not fall into the range of energies of interest for any magnetic field B. The particles lose a negligible amount of their energy in interactions with infrared photons in the accretion disk; losses in the thick gas-dust torus are also negligible if the luminosity of the galaxy is L≤1046 erg/s and the angle between the normal to the galactic plane and the line of sight is sufficiently small, i.e., if the axial ratio of the galactic disk is comparatively high. The particles do not lose energy to curvature radiation if their deviations from the jet axis do not exceed 0.03–0.04 pc at distances from the center of R≈40–50 pc. Synchrotron losses are small, since the magnetic field frozen in the galactic wind at R≤40–50 pc is directed (as in the jet) primarily in the direction of motion. If the model considered is valid, the detected cosmic-ray protons could be either fragments of Seyfert nuclei or be accelerated in other sources. The jet magnetic fields can be estimated both from direct astronomical observations and from the energy spectrum and chemical composition of cosmic rays.  相似文献

The structure of the ejector region in the active star-forming region Orion KL has been studied over a broad dynamic range with a high angular resolution of 0.1 milliarcsec, or 0.05 AU. The line profile of the H2O supermaser emission has broad wings and can be represented as a superposition of two Gaussians with frequency widths Δf1=31 kHz and Δf2=163 kHz. The line intensities are I1≈3×105 Jy/beam and I2≈400 Jy/beam, and the brightness temperatures, Tb1≈5×1016 K and Tb2≈6×1014 K. The broadband ejector emission is determined by a rotating bipolar outflow with a rotational period of 5 months. The ejector emission in the 31-kHz component at a velocity of 7.64 km/s is amplified by more than two orders of magnitude by the surrounding envelope. The maser amplification regime is partially saturated.  相似文献

An analysis of the dynamics of the electron temperature of the solar atmosphere in regions where solar flares appear is presented. The temperatures are estimated from the emission in spectral lines of ions with various degrees of ionization. The emission of ionized helium and highly ionized iron was used. Images of preflare states and of flares from the archive of the American SDO spacecraft are analyzed. A solar flare is usually preceded by the registration of a bright glowing structure above the action region, with a temperature exceeding that of the corona. This preflare structure (~1010 cm) is identified with the development of a system of currents, which, according to numerical simulations, is responsible for the accumulation of energy above the active region before the flare. After several tens of hours of a slow increase in the brightness of the preflare glow in the 94 Å iron (FeXVIII) line, the emission in the 193 Å line of FeXXIV increases sharply, indicating a flare-like growth of the temperature up to at least 20 MK. This growth of the emission coincides with the onset of the solar flare. The observed dynamics of the emission in spectral lines of highly ionized ions is consistent with an electrodynamic model of a solar flare based on the accumulation of magnetic energy in a current sheet above the active region and the explosive release of the stored energy. Studies of mechanisms for solar flares are of special importance in connection with the discovery of solar cosmic rays. Information from the worldwide network of neutron monitors and from the GOES spacecraft has made it possible to firmly state that the source of solar rays is solar flares, not shocks generated by such flares. It cannot be ruled out that a similar mechanism, not shocks, is also responsible for the acceleration of cosmic rays in the Galaxy.  相似文献

For the first time, the luminescence properties of Pr3+, Nd3+ and Tm3+ and Yb3+ ions in fluorite crystal have been obtained by steady-state measurements. In addition, the luminescence spectra of Ce3+, Sm2+, Sm3+, Dy3+, Er3+ and Yb3+ were measured. It was pointed out that λexc.?=?415?nm is most suitable for measuring the Ho3+ emission beside the Er3+. The emission of trivalent holmium and erbium ions was measured independently using time-resolved measurements and tentative assignment of luminescence lines to C 3v and C 4v symmetry sites was proposed. Besides for natural fluorite crystal, the transitions between Stark energy levels of lanthanide ions were presented.  相似文献

We have modeled the Hα, Hβ, and Hγ (Balmer series), P14 (Paschen series), and Brγ (Brackett series) hydrogen lines formed in the inner regions of the accretion disk around the Herbig Ae star UX Ori. Our calculations are based on spectra obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) and the IRTF. We computed a grid of non-LTE models for a radiating area in the accretion disk and determined the basic parameters of the lines using the method of Sobolev. Analyzing the theoretical and observed line profiles, equivalent widths, and luminosities, we have estimated the accretion rate and electron-temperature distribution in the inner parts of the accretion disk. The accretion rate of UX Ori is about $\dot M_a = (3 - 10) \times 10^{ - 9} M_ \odot /yr$ , and the temperature distribution is consistent with the power law T(r)=T(r *)(r/r *)?1/n , where the electron temperature near the stellar surface T(r *) is 15000–20000 K and the power-law index n≈2–3 is about two to three. The resulting value for $\dot M_a $ eliminates problems connected with the application of magnetospheric accretion models to Herbig Ae/Be stars. Another important conclusion is that, at the estimated accretion rate, the energy release is substantially (about two orders of magnitude) lower than the stellar luminosity. Therefore, the optical radiation of UX Ori accretion disks cannot appreciably contribute to the observed variability of these stars, which must be determined mainly by variability in the circumstellar extinction.  相似文献

High-temperature oxide-melt calorimetry and Rietveld refinement of powder X-ray diffraction patterns were used to investigate the energetics and structure of the hematite–corundum solid solution and ternary phase FeAlO3 (with FeGaO3 structure). The mixing enthalpies in the solid solution can be described by a polynomial ΔHmix=WX hem(1?X hem) with W=116 ± 10 kJ mol?1. The excess mixing enthalpies are too positive to reproduce the experimental phase diagram, and excess entropies in the solid solution should be considered. The hematite–corundum solvus can be approximately reproduced by a symmetric, regular-like solution model with ΔG excess=(W H ?TW S )X hem X cor, where W H= 116 ± 10 kJ mol?1 and W S =32 ± 4 J mol?1 K?1. In this model, short-range order (SRO) of Fe/Al is neglected because SRO probably becomes important only at intermediate compositions close to Fe:Al=1:1 but these compositions cannot be synthesized. The volume of mixing is positive for Al-hematite but almost ideal for Fe-corundum. Moreover, the degree of deviation from Vegard's law for Al-hematite depends on the history of the samples. Introduction of Al into the hematite structure causes varying distortion of the hexagonal network of oxygen ions while the position of the metal ions remains intact. Distortion of the hexagonal network of oxygen ions attains a minimum at the composition (Fe0.95Al0.05)2O3. The enthalpy of formation of FeAlO3 from oxides at 298 K is 27.9 ± 1.8 kJ mol?1. Its estimated standard entropy (including configurational entropy due to disorder of Fe/Al) is 98.9 J mol?1 K?1, giving the standard free energy of formation at 298 K from oxides and elements as +19.1 ± 1.8 and ?1144.2 ± 2.0 kJ mol?1, respectively. The heat capacity of FeAlO3 is approximated as C p (T in K)= 175.8 ? 0.002472T ? (1.958 × 106)/T 2? 917.3/T 0.5+(7.546 × 10?6) T 2 between 298 and 1550 K, based on differential scanning calorimetric measurements. No ferrous iron was detected in FeAlO3 by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The ternary phase is entropy stabilized and is predicted to be stable above about 1730 ± 70 K, in good agreement with the experiment. Static lattice calculations show that the LiNbO3-, FeGaO3-, FeTiO3-, and disordered corundum-like FeAlO3 structures are less stable (in the order in which they are listed) than a mechanical mixture of corundum and hematite. At high temperatures, the FeGaO3-like structure is favored by its entropy, and its stability field appears on the phase diagram.  相似文献

Silicon-29 magic-angle-spinning NMR spectroscopy has been used to investigate the silicon-aluminum distribution in natural samples of analcite and leucite (before and after heat treatment) as well as a leucite synthesized from a gel. Three different simulation programs have been developed to fit the experimental spectra. For two we assume a different aluminum occupancy fraction g i for each of the three crystallographically distinct tetrahedral sites T i in leucite and some degree of aluminum avoidance, but an otherwise random arrangement of tetrahedral cations. A third program interchanges Al and Si cations on a lattice of 3×3×3 unit cells to generate an optimized fit. All models predict that the T 2 sites in natural leucite are deficient in aluminum: g 1≈0.39, g 2≈0.16, and g 3≈0.42 for the fractional Al occupancy at each site, with apparently strict aluminum avoidance. Heat treatment of the sample at 1673 K for a week has little effect on the g i values but may create some Al-O-Al linkages. In the gel-synthesized leucite, Al occupancies are slightly more uniform than in natural leucite: g 1≈0.36, g 2≈0.20, and g 3≈0.42. For analcite, two distinctly different Si, Al distributions are obtained: (A) g 1=g 3≈0.09, g 2≈0.78 and (B) g 1=g 3≈0.46, g 2≈0.04. Additional NMR measurements on an ion-exchanged sample or an accurate determination of unit-cell dimensions could resolve this ambiguity.  相似文献

ROSAT spectra of 11 supersoft X-ray sources are approximated with theoretical spectra obtained in LTE models for the atmospheres of hot white dwarfs with line blanketing. The confidence intervals of parameters derived from these approximations—Teff, log, g, NH, and R2/d2—are determined. The results are compared with predictions for a model with stable/recurrent thermonuclear burning on the white-dwarf surface.  相似文献

First principles phase diagram calculations were performed for the system NaCl–KCl. Plane-wave pseudopotential calculations of formation energies were used as a basis for fitting cluster expansion Hamiltonians, both with and without an approximation for the excess vibrational entropy (SVIB). Including SVIB dramatically improves the agreement between calculated and experimental phase diagrams: experimentally, the consolute point is {XC = 0.348, TC = 765 K}Exp; without SVIB, it is {XC = 0.46, TC  1630 K}Calc; with SVIB, it is {XC = 0.43, TC  930 K}Calc.  相似文献

The electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrum of Cr3+ in a synthetic single crystal of forsterite doped with Cr2O3 was studied at room temperature in the X-band frequency range. The dependence of the observed spectra on the crystal orientation with respect to the applied magnetic field was investigated. The ESR spectra are described by the spin Hamiltonian \(H = \beta HgS + D(S_Z^{\text{2}} - {\text{1/3}}S{\text{(}}S{\text{ + 1)) + }}E{\text{(}}S_x^{\text{2}} - S_y^{\text{2}} {\text{)}}\) with S=3/2. The spin resonance reveals that the chromium ions are located at both the M1 and M2 positions. Other possible substitutional or interstitial Cr3+ positions may be possible, but were not observed. The site occupancy numbers of Cr3+ at M1 and M2 are roughly 1.2×10?4 and 0.8×10?4, respectively, assuming that chromium is oxidized completely. The preference of the chromium ions for M1 was interpreted qualitatively in terms of crystal field criteria. The rhombic and axial spin Hamiltonian parameters, D and E, and the directions of the magnetic axes obtained for M1 and M2 are consistent with the respective oxygen coordination polyhedra.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the lattice parameters of pure anorthite with high Al/Si order reveals the predicted tricritical behaviour of the \(I\bar 1 \leftrightarrow P\bar 1\) phase transition at T c * =510 K. The spontaneous strain couples to the order parameter Q° as x iS xQ i 2 with S xQ 1 =4.166×10?3, S xQ 2 =0.771×10?3, S xQ 3 =?7.223×10?3 for the diagonal elements. The temperature dependence of Q° is $$Q^{\text{o}} = \left( {1 - \frac{T}{{510}}} \right)^\beta ,{\text{ }}\beta = \tfrac{{\text{1}}}{{\text{4}}}$$ A strong dependence of T c * , S xQ i and β is predicted for Al/Si disordered anorthite.  相似文献

Synthetic pyrope crystals up to 0.5 mm in diameter, substituted by titanium or by titanium plus iron, were grown under defined conditions of P, T, $f_{O_2 }$ in the presence of water using a piston-cylinder device. The crystals were characterized by X-ray and microprobe techniques. Their single-crystal optical absorption spectra were measured by means of a microscope-spectrometer. Two absorption bands at 16100 and 22300 cm{cm-1} in the spectra of pale-blue Fe-free Ti-bearing pyropes, grown under reduced conditions, were identified as originating from spin-allowed transitions, derived from 2 T 2g 2 E g of octahedral Ti3+ ions. The splitting value of the excited 2E g state, 6200 cm-1, and the crystal field parameter of Ti3+ in pyrope Δ 0 = 19 200 cm-1 are both in agreement with literature data. In spectra of brown Fe, Ti-bearing garnets, a broad band at 23000 cm-1 was interpreted as a Fe2+[8] → Ti4+[6] charge-transfer band. The spectral position and width of this band agree with those observed for a FeTi charge transfer band in natural garnets. Fe, Ti-containing garnets synthesized at relatively high oxygen fugacity (10-11,0 atm), which permits a fraction of Fe3+ to enter the garnet, show an additional Fe2+[8] → Fe3+[6] charge transfer band at 19800 cm-1.  相似文献
