LEGRI has been operating successfully on MINISAT-01 since its switch-on the 22nd of May 1997. HouseKeeping (HK) data have been continuously receivedfor nearly two years by LEGRI SOC in Valencia, and subsequently checked on adaily basis and then stored for long term monitoring analysis.LEGRI HouseKeeping data include three critical operating parameters:temperature, power and polarisation voltages. Six temperature sensors arespread over the different LEGRI units: Detector Unit, Data Processing Unit,High Voltage Unit and Star Sensor. Voltages are measured at eight differentpoints. Detector Unit temperature and polarisation voltage are thecritical parameters for LEGRI operation. Solid state detectors aresensitive to changes not only in polarisation but also in temperature.Around one and a half million of measurements for each of the HK fourteen parameters have been recorded and analysed. The data show a very remarkablestability, within the expected margins, and the averages are very close to theoptimal design values. Special attention has been paid to the detectorpolarisation voltages analysis with a mean value of 286 ± 2 V when the detectors are operating. Thermal control over all the LEGRI units shows a remarkable stability in their temperatures.On the detector plane a mean value of T det = 13 ± 2 °C has been found.We can therefore conclude that LEGRI as a system has been operating withinits optimal design conditions. The LEGRI Science Operation Center (SOC) is the single contact pointbetween the MINISAT-01 Centro de Operaciones Científicas (COC)located at Villafranca del Castillo (Madrid) and the LEGRI Consortium.Its architecture, operational procedures and associated software hasbeen developed at the Universities of Valencia and Birmingham on thescope to define a integrated Data Analysis System, able to perform thedaily follow-up of the instrument health, raw data files decompressionand archiving activities (on-line and historical). Pointing and telecommandfiles generation is also a SOC responsibility.The aim of this paper is to report the SOC activities during the two yearsof LEGRI operations. Conclusions about the SOC architecture and proceduresevolution on how to handle the operations for space-borne instrumentation,are also presented.Special attention has been paid to the operative evaluation of the pointingreconstruction solutions from the MINISAT-01 Attitude Control System bycomparing them with those obtained with the LEGRI Star Sensor. The analysisof one year of observations shows the good agreement between both sets ofdata. No systematic deviations have been found with an averaged standarddeviation of 1 degree in alpha and delta coordinates. For most of the timethe MINISAT pointing system is working slightly better than expected andwithin specifications.  相似文献

We present here stellar spectra of B stars obtained with the EURD spectrograph, one of the three instruments on board MINISAT-01. EURD is a spectrograph specially designed to detect diffuse radiation in thewavelength range between 350 and 1100 Å with 5 Å spectral resolution. EURD main scientific targets are: the spectrum of interstellar medium,atmospheric airglow, decaying neutrinos, Moon and early type stars.  相似文献

EURD (Espectrógrafo Ultravioleta extremo de Radiación Difusa), one of the instruments onboard the Spanish satellite MINISAT-01, is a spectrograph specially designed to detect diffuse radiation, covering the wavelength range of 350-1100 Å, with a spectral resolution of 6-8 Å. Its main scientific objectives are the detection of the emission line spectrum from the hot phase of the interstellar medium and the spectrum of the upper atmospheric airglow. In order to reduce geocoronal noise, EURD always observes in the anti-sun direction and only when the satellite is in orbital eclipse. After more than one year of observation we have obtained the best spectrum of the upper atmospheric nightglow in this wavelength range, the spectrum of 15 OB stars and the spectrum of the full Moon throughout the year. This paper describes the evolution of landforms in Atlantis and Gorgonum basins, using a geomorphologic approach which interprets landform distribution and hierarchy. Rather than looking at the distribution of large-area (>106 km2) geologic sequences, this study focuses on interpreting the local-scale (<103 km2) cratered terrains, tectono-structural basins, and local manifestation of exogenic processes. Specifically, the evolution of fluvio-lacustrine landforms is interpreted as being functionally subordinated to the evolution of the cratered terrains and to the tectono-structural modifications of the landscape. Results show that three major phases of landscape evolution in Atlantis and Gorgonum basins can be identified: (a) major impact cratering during the heavy-bombardment period; (b) tectonic displacements in response to volcano emplacement in the Tharsis region, and simultaneous landform creation by fluvial and lacustrine processes; and (c) exogenic modification of the older landforms through weathering and eolian processes. Our results show that the smaller morphological features, which form on the older geological units, are not necessarily old themselves and can in fact be relatively recent (e.g. Amazonian). The main implication of these results is that martian morphology did not form only during a period immediately following the heavy bombardment, as commonly postulated, but rather that landform evolution continued throughout the entire martian history.  相似文献

Refractory objects such as Calcium, Aluminum-rich Inclusions, Amoeboid Olivine Aggregates, and crystalline silicates, are found in primitive bodies throughout our Solar System. It is believed that these objects formed in the hot, inner solar nebula and were redistributed during the mass and angular momentum transport that took place during its early evolution. The ages of these objects thus offer possible clues about the timing and duration of this transport. Here we study how the dynamics of these refractory objects in the evolving solar nebula affected the age distribution of the grains that were available to be incorporated into planetesimals throughout the Solar System. It is found that while the high temperatures and conditions needed to form these refractory objects may have persisted for millions of years, it is those objects that formed in the first 105 years that dominate (make up over 90%) those that survive throughout most of the nebula. This is due to two effects: (1) the largest numbers of refractory grains are formed at this time period, as the disk is rapidly drained of mass during subsequent evolution and (2) the initially rapid spreading of the disk due to angular momentum transport helps preserve this early generation of grains as opposed to later generations. This implies that most refractory objects found in meteorites and comets formed in the first 105 years after the nebula formed. As these objects contained live 26Al, this constrains the time when short-lived radionuclides were introduced to the Solar System to no later than 105 years after the nebula formed. Further, this implies that the t=0 as defined by meteoritic materials represents at most, the instant when the solar nebula finished accreting significant amounts of materials from its parent molecular cloud.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the early phase of radio source evolution as represented by Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) and Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) radio sources. Correlations between their spectral peak and angular size strongly suggest that the spectral turnovers are caused by synchrotron self absorption, and indicate that young radio sources evolve in a self similar way. We argue that the evolution of a radio source during its first 105 years is qualitatively very different from that during the rest of its life-time. This may be caused by the difference in the density gradient of the intra-galactic medium inside and outside the core-radius of the host galaxy.  相似文献

LO Peg is a young main‐sequence star of spectral type K3. With its equatorial rotation velocity of 65 km s–1 it is amongst the ultra‐fast rotators. Its high equatorial rotation velocity and rapidly changing surface activity features make it an important object in terms of both stellar activity and the evolution of stellar rotation and angular momentum. Since its discovery as a variable star, it has mostly been subject to spectral surface mapping studies such as Doppler Imaging, while there have been very few photometric studies on it. This paper aims to present the first long‐term photometric observations and its results covering the years between 2003 and 2009. The UBVR Johnson wide band photometric data showed that the surface activity structures of LO Peg vary in timescales changing between days and months, and parallel to this, the mean, maximum and minimum brightness and amplitudes change dramatically between years and sometimes even within the same observation season. Long‐term changes in system brightness and colours, both characteristic features of active stars, were also seen in this ultra‐fast young star. We present a systematic analysis of all the BeppoSAX data of SGR1900+14. The observations spanning five years show that the source was brighter than usual on two occasions: ~20 days after the August 1998 giant flare and during the 105?s long X-ray afterglow following the April 2001 intermediate flare. In the latter case, we explore the possibility of describing the observed short term spectral evolution only with a change of the temperature of the blackbody component. In the only BeppoSAX observation performed before the giant flare, the spectrum of the SGR1900+14 persistent emission was significantly harder and detected also above 10 keV with the PDS instrument. In the last BeppoSAX observation (April 2002) the flux was at least a factor 1.2 below the historical level, suggesting that the source was entering a quiescent period.  相似文献

We study the evolution of solid, CO white dwarfs after explosive carbon ignition at central densities around 1010 g cm–3 triggered by steady accretion in a close binary system, in order to elucidate whether these stars can collapse to form a neutron star. We show that as long as the velocity of the burning front remains below a critical value of 0.006c s (60 km s–1), gravitational collapse is the final fate. For nearly two decades, the aperature synthesis telescope known as the Very Large Array (VLA) has been providing a wealth of data on all types of astronomical objects. This telescope fills the need for more powerful and more sensitive instruments to gather data on a vast range of plasma phenomena in astrophysical settings. Currently the VLA is capable of observing at eight radio frequency bands (four corresponding to important spectral lines) with sensitivities on the order of 10–29 Wm –2 Hz –1, or 10–3 Jansky (1 mJy), and noise levels ten times lower. This paper describes the VLA and its capabilities, and describes how researchers interested in plasma astrophysics can use the instrument.  相似文献

Luminosity functions are one of the most important observational clues when studying galaxy evolution over cosmic time. In this paper we present the X‐ray luminosity functions for X‐ray detected AGN in the SXDS and GWS fields. The limiting fluxes of our samples are 9.0 ×10–15 and 4.8 ×10–16 erg cm–2 s–1 in the 0.5–7.0 keV band in the two fields, respectively. We carried out analysis in three X‐ray bands and in two redshift intervals up to z ≤ 1.4. Moreover, we derive the luminosity functions for different optical morphologies and X‐ray types. We confirm strong luminosity evolution in all three bands, finding the most luminous objects at higher redshift. However, no signs of density evolution are found in any tested X‐ray band. We obtain similar results for compact and early‐type objects. Finally, we observe the “Steffen effect”, where X‐ray type‐1 sources are more numerous at higher luminosities in comparison with type‐2 sources. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. There exist many comets with near-parabolic orbits in the Solar System. Among various theories proposed to explain their origin, the Oort cloud hypothesis seems to be the most reasonable (Oort, 1950). The theory assumes that there is a cometary cloud at a distance 103 – 105 AU from the Sun and that perturbing forces from planets or stars make orbits of some of these comets become of near-parabolic type. Concerning the evolution of these orbits under planetary perturbations, we can raise the question: Will they stay in the Solar System forever or will they escape from it? This is an attractive dynamical problem. If we go ahead by directly solving the dynamical differential equations, we may encounter the difficulty of long-time computation. For the orbits of these comets are near-parabolic and their periods are too long to study on their long-term evolution. With mapping approaches the difficulty will be overcome. In another aspect, the study of this model has special meaning for chaotic dynamics. We know that in the neighbourhood of any separatrix i.e. the trajectory with zero frequency of the unperturbed motion of an Hamiltonian system, some chaotic motions have to be expected. Actually, the simplest example of separatrix is the parabolic trajectory of the two body problem which separates the bounded and unbounded motion. From this point of view, the dynamical study on near-parabolic motion is very important. Petrosky's elegant but more abstract deduction gives a Kepler mapping which describes the dynamics of the cometary motion (Petrosky, 1988). In this paper we derive a similar mapping directly and discuss its dynamical characters.  相似文献

The study of the chemical composition of stars and galaxies is a key topic for understanding their origin and evolution. In this study, we present the results of the calculation of solar abundances of the isotopes 1H, 4He, 12C, 14N, 15O, 16O, 17O, and 18O during the four phases of the solar life: hydrogen burning, onset of rapid growth and red giant, helium burning and helium exhaustion. The open source package “NucNet Tools” from the Webnucleo Group in Clemson University, SC, USA was used for this purpose. The results for all isotopes are listed in tables for future use. Abundances found, globally, agree fairly well with those predicted in the literature. Results obtained for the last two phases have no equivalents elsewhere.  相似文献

This paper describes our studies of evolution of the solar magnetic field with different sign and field strength in the range from –100 G to 100 G. The structure and evolution of large‐scale magnetic fields on the Sun during the last 3 cycles of solar activity is investigated using magnetograph data from the Kitt Peak Solar Observatory. This analysis reveals two groups of the large‐scale magnetic fields evolving differently during the cycles. The first group is represented by relatively weak background fields, and is best observed in the range of 3–10 Gauss. The second group is represented by stronger fields of 75–100 Gauss. The spatial and temporal properties of these groups are described and compared with the total magnetic flux. In this paper we compute the time evolution of the elements (4He, 12C, 14N, 16O, 20Ne, 24Mg, 28Si, 32S, 40Ca and 56Fe) and of the supernova rates in the solar neighbourhood by means of a galactic chemical evolutionary code that includes in detail the evolution of both single and binary stars. Special attention is payed to the formation of black holes.Our main conclusions:
  • •in order to predict the galactic time evolution of the different types of supernovae, it is essential to compute in detail the evolution of the binary population,
  • •the observed time evolution of carbon is better reproduced by a galactic model where the effect is included of a significant fraction of intermediate mass binaries,
  • •massive binary mass exchange provides a possible solution for the production of primary nitrogen during the very early phases of galactic evolution,
  • •chemical evolutionary models with binaries or without binaries but with a detailed treatment of the SN Ia progenitors predict very similar age–metallicity relations and very similar G-dwarf distributions whereas the evolution of the yields as function of time of the elements 4He, 16O, 20Ne, 24Mg, 28Si, 32S and 40Ca differ by no more than a factor of two or three,
  • •the observed time evolution of oxygen is best reproduced when most of the oxygen produced during core helium burning in ALL massive stars serves to enrich the interstellar medium. This can be used as indirect evidence that (massive) black hole formation in single stars and binary components is always preceded by a supernova explosion.

A star will become brighter and brighter with stellar evolution, and the distance of its habitable zone will become larger and larger. Some planets outside the habitable zone of a host star during the main sequence phase may enter the habitable zone of the host star during other evolutionary phases. A terrestrial planet within the habitable zone of its host star is generally thought to be suitable for the existence of life. Furthermore, a rocky moon around a giant planet may be also suitable for life to survive, provided that the planet–moon system is within the habitable zone of its host star. Using Eggleton’s code and the boundary flux of the habitable zone, we calculate the habitable zone of our Solar system after the main sequence phase. It is found that Mars’ orbit and Jupiter’s orbit will enter the habitable zone of the Solar system during the subgiant branch phase and the red giant branch phase, respectively. And the orbit of Saturn will enter the habitable zone of Solar during the He-burning phase for about 137 million years. Life is unlikely at any time on Saturn, as it is a giant gaseous planet. However, Titan, the rocky moon of Saturn, may be suitable for biological evolution and become another Earth during that time. For low-mass stars, there are similar habitable zones during the He-burning phase as our Solar, because there are similar core masses and luminosities for these stars during that phase.  相似文献

Observations of aurorae borealis at low latitudes are very rare and are clearly associated with strong geomagnetic storms. Morphologically, they are characterized by a diffuse red colour with no rapid motions. The main aim of this paper is to analyse two hitherto ignored aurorae that were observed at two low-latitude sites, Tenerife (28°N 18°W) and Mexico City (19°N 99°W), in 1770 and 1789, respectively. These observations can give supplementary information about the level of solar activity at those times where direct solar observations were rather scarce. Studying also the behaviour of the heliosphere during this period using different proxies, we find that the open magnetic field better describes auroral occurrences. The variation over time in geomagnetic latitude at the two sites is also calculated.  相似文献
