To compare the spectra of main-belt S-type asteroids and ordinary chondrites, we investigated the correlation between the reflectance peak position near 750 nm, the bend of the spectral curves in the 359–701 nm region, the linear gradient in the 359–853 nm range, and the absorption band position near 950 nm. In the diagrams of spectral parameters, the regions occupied by S-type asteroids and ordinary chondrites are separated. The modeling of the optical effect of maturation of ordinary-chondrite samples, which leads to variations in the meteorite spectral parameters, was carried out under the following conditions: (1) the increase of the concentration of reduced-iron grains (SMFe) in particles without any change in their size; (2) the increase/decrease of the size of particles at a constant concentration of SMFe in them; (3) we also examined different relations between the concentration and the size of SMFe in particles. But, under no conditions did we manage to bring into coincidence the asteroid and meteorite regions simultaneously in all spectral-parameter diagrams. Hence, the conclusion was made that the difference between the reflectance spectra of ordinary chondrites and those of large main-belt S-type asteroids is determined not only by space weathering of asteroidal surfaces but also by systematic differences in the material composition.  相似文献

The Advanced Liquid-mirror Probe of Asteroids, Cosmology and Astrophysics (ALPACA) is a proposed 8-m liquid-mirror telescope surveying  ∼1000 deg2  of the Southern hemisphere sky. It will be a remarkably simple and inexpensive telescope that none the less will deliver a powerful sample of optical data for studying dark energy. The bulk of the cosmological data consist of nightly, high signal-to-noise ratio, multiband light curves of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). At the end of the 3-yr run, ALPACA is expected to collect  ≳100 000  SNe Ia up to   z ∼ 1  . This will allow us to reduce present systematic uncertainties affecting the standard-candle relation. The survey will also provide several other data sets such as the detection of baryon acoustic oscillations in the matter power spectrum and shear weak-lensing measurements. In this preliminary analysis, we forecast constraints on dark energy parameters from SNe Ia and baryon acoustic oscillations. The combination of these two data sets will provide competitive constraints on the dark energy parameters under minimal prior assumptions. Further studies are needed to address the accuracy of weak-lensing measurements.  相似文献

The conference was held in Vinnitsa (Ukraine) from September 26 until October 2, 1999. It was devoted to minor bodies in the Solar System, to structures on the surfaces of planets and the Earth, as well as to craters and astroblemes. The CAMMAC-1 meetings were held in the M. Kotsyubinskii Vinnitsa Pedagogical University. About 80 representatives from 19 research organizations of 15 European cities attended the conference. Thirty-six oral papers and a number of poster papers were presented and discussed. Several new scientific results are evaluated in the resolution, and the most topical problems in the study of minor bodies and impact structures on the surfaces of the Earth and planets are formulated.  相似文献

A quantity of C-type asteroids with intermediate size has been selected as the targets of our observational program in Yunnan Observatory, China since 2000. In this paper, we report the results of the photometric observation for three of them, 168 Sibylla, 206 Hersilia and 506 Marion during 2002–2003. The synodic period of 9.100±0.009 h of 206 is different from the value given by Harris (2003). The synodic periods of 168 and 506 we estimated are 24.41±0.01 h, and 13.51±0.01 h, respectively, which are slightly different from the values given by Harris (2003). Abstract. Examples of the problems encountered in the tracing, recovery and identification of meteorites from witnessed fireballs, indicate the failure of museum collections to be truly representative of the known increment from space and of our lack of knowledge of the varieties of material coming to earth from space. The history of the development of criteria for the recognition of meteorites is traced and some of the witnessed but rejected falls of history are listed. Objection is raised to the almost total dependence upon chemistry—particularly upon the presence of nickel—in meteoritic identification. Stress is laid upon the importance of fusion crust as an identifying characteristic of meteorites.  相似文献

Photometric observations of the four selected asteroids, obtained at Yunnan Observatory, China during recent two years, are presented and analysed. We have determined the synodic periods of (174)\, Phaedra and (276)\, Adeldheid as 5.74h ± 0.01 and 6.29h ± 0.01,which confirmed the previous results. For (38)\, Leda and (346)\, Hermentria, we derived their period values, 10.171h ± 0.007 and 19.408h ± 0.005 for the first time. The color-indices of 38, were re-determined as 0.73 ± 0.02 for B-V and 0.41 ± 0.02for U-B, respectively, which are the same as the ones given by Tedesco (1989).  相似文献

The near-IR spectral properties of minerals, meteorites, and lunar soil vary with temperature. The manner in which these materials vary is diagnostic of aspects of their composition. We quantify the spectral dependence on temperature by reporting the change in relative reflectance with temperature as a function of wavelength. We call this quantity, ΔRT (in units of K−1), as a function of temperature the “thermo-reflectance spectrum.” The thermo-reflectance spectra of olivine and pyroxene are distinct, and most of the observable structure in thermo-reflectance spectra of the ordinary and carbonaceous chondrites can be understood in terms of a mixture of the thermo-reflectance spectra of olivine and pyroxene. The magnitude of thermo-reflectance spectra of meteorites and lunar soils is much less than that of pure minerals. Lunar soils are particularly subdued. While conventional analysis of remotely obtained spectra of the Moon can neglect temperature effects, spatially resolved measurements of the surface of the asteroid Vesta will likely have a strong temperature-dependent component based on measurements of a eucrite and a howardite.  相似文献

Abstract— Primitive meteorites contain a few parts per million (ppm) of pristine interstellar grains that provide information on nuclear and chemical processes in stars. Their interstellar origin is proven by highly anomalous isotopic ratios, varying more than 1000-fold for elements such as C and N. Most grains isolated thus far are stable only under highly reducing conditions (C/O > 1), and apparently are “stardust” formed in stellar atmospheres. Microdiamonds, of median size ~ 10 Å, are most abundant (~ 400–1800 ppm) but least understood. They contain anomalous noble gases including Xe-HL, which shows the signature of the r- and p-processes and thus apparently is derived from supernovae. Silicon carbide, of grain size 0.2–10 μm and abundance ~ 6 ppm, shows the signature of the s-process and apparently comes mainly from red giant carbon (AGB) stars of 1–3 solar masses. Some grains appear to be ≥109 a older than the Solar System. Graphite spherules, of grain size 0.8–7 μm and abundance <2 ppm, contain highly anomalous C and noble gases, as well as large amounts of fossil 26Mg from the decay of extinct 26Al. They seem to come from at least three sources, probably AGB stars, novae, and Wolf-Rayet stars.  相似文献

The mineralogy and bulk chemical compositions of three iron meteorites (Zhaoping, Xifu and Hami) recently found in China are reported here and are classified on the basis of their bulk chemical compositions. Zhaoping contains 93.4 mg/g Ni, 85.9 μg/g Ga, 418 μg/g Ge, 5.24 mg/g Co, 1.94 μg/g Ir, 0.774 μg/g W, and 1.62 μg/g Au and belongs to the low-Ni, low-Au subgroup of IAB. It is a coarse octahedrite and consists of kamacite, taenite, troilite, schreibersite and cohenite. The cohenite has entirely decomposed to graphite and low-Ni kamacite in our samples. Zhaoping contains some inclusions of Mn-free sarcopside which were rarely reported in IAB iron meteorites. Xifu has 74.1 mg/g Ni, 58.8gμg/g Ga, 150 μg/g Ge, and 0.913 μg/g W. Xifu is a member of group IIICD iron meteorite. Like most of IIICD irons, Xifu is a coarsest octahedrite with kamacite bandwidth larger than 3mm, and contains kamacite, taenite and schreibersite. Carbides and graphite are not found in the sample because of its being heterogeneous. Hami has 106 mg/g Ni, 5.36 mg/g Co and 0.922 μg/g Ir. We did not obtain the Ga and Ge contents in Hami because of their low concentrations and the limited precision of the INAA technique. Hami is an unclassified iron meteorite on the basis of the contents of other trace elements, structure and mineralogy. On mineralogy and structure, Hami resembles Rafruti, another unclassified iron meteorite.  相似文献

The population of binary asteroids numbers over 160 systems, and they can be found amongst near-Earth asteroids (NEAs), Main-Belt asteroids (MBAs), Jupiter Trojans, Centaurs and trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs). The discoveries have been made with space missions, radar observations, photometric lightcurves, and high resolution imaging from the ground and space. The properties of each population are widely different due to varying formation mechanisms and discovery techniques for each group. Future large-aperture telescopes will be capable of imaging both components for nearly all known systems and will drastically improve prospects for discovery of smaller and more tightly bound systems throughout the Solar System. The study of binary asteroids has provided valuable estimates on asteroid density and structure, a better understanding of the radiative YORP-effect, insights on catastrophic collisions, and may prove to be a key diagnostic for understanding the formation and evolution of the Kuiper Belt population.  相似文献

We report on the first meteorite search campaign in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The geology and proximity of our search region suggest that it is the north‐western extension of the Oman meteorite fields. We found 26 ordinary chondrites, bringing the total number of official meteorites from the UAE to 28. The campaign was organized and conducted in close cooperation with the UAE government and the main masses of the meteorites remained in the country where they will become part of an exhibition. The bulk composition of five meteorite and three soil samples indicates an uptake of U, Mo, Sr, Ba, Li, and Pb from the soil into the meteorites during terrestrial weathering. Terrestrial ages determined from 14C decay of 21 meteorites range from recent falls to 24.4 ka, with two meteorites having >37 ka and approximately 39 ka, respectively. Weak correlations between weathering degree, meteorite bulk chemical composition, and terrestrial age suggest highly localized weathering conditions, possibly related to abundant occurrences of sabkhas in the search region.  相似文献

The determination for asteroids’ spin parameters is very important for the physical study of asteroids and their evolution. Sometimes, the low amplitude of light curves and kinds of systematic errors in photometric data prevent the determination of the asteroids’ spin period. To solve such a problem, we introduced the de-correlation methods developed in searching for exoplanetary transit signal into the asteroid’s data reduction in this paper. By applying the principle of Collier Cameron (MNRAS 373:799–810, 2006) and Tamuz et al. (MNRAS 356:1466–1470, 2005)’s, we simulated the systematic effects in photometric data of asteroid, and removed those simulated errors from photometric data. Therefore the S/N of intrinsic signals of three selected asteroids are enhanced significantly. As results, we derived the new spin periods of 18.821 ± 0.011 h, 28.202 ± +0.071 h for (431) and (521) respectively, and refined the spin period of (524) as 14.172 ± 0.016 h.  相似文献

Abstract— The Sahara is an extraordinary area for recovering meteorites. Between 1989 and 1993, 471 meteorites were collected in Algeria and Libya. Studies of 465 samples have been done. In addition to the classifications of the meteorites that were published in various “Meteoritical Bulletins” in past years, we present here the results on the determination of the shock metamorphism and the degree of weathering. Also, we have tried to solve the pairing problem by considering the find locations, the degree of shock metamorphism, the degree of weathering, and the mineral compositions of olivine and pyroxene. A comprehensive table listing all samples contains references about previous work on these meteorites.  相似文献

A symplectic mapping model for the co-orbital motion (Sándor et al., 2002, Cel. Mech. Dyn. Astr. 84, 355) in the circular restricted three body problem is used to derive Nekhoroshev stability estimates for the Sun–Jupiter Trojans. Following a brief review of the analytical part of Nekhoroshev theory, a direct method is developed to construct formal integrals of motion in symplectic mappings without use of a normal form. Precise estimates are given for the region of effective stability based on the optimization of the size of the remainder of the formal series. The stability region found for t=1010 yrs corresponds to a libration amplitude Dp=10.6°. About 30% of asteroids with accurately known proper elements (Milani, 1993, Cel. Mech. Dyn. Astron. 57, 59), at low eccentricities and inclinations, are included within this region. This represents an improvement with respect to previous estimates given in the literature. The improvement is due partly to the choice of better variables, but also to the use of a mapping model, which is a simplification of the circular restricted three body problem.  相似文献

Precise measurements of Doppler shifts of lines in stellar spectra allowing the radial velocity to be measured are an important field of astrophysical studies. A remarkable feature of the Doppler spectroscopy is the possibility to reliably measure quite small variations of the radial velocities (its acceleration, in fact) during long periods of time. Influence of a planet on a star is an example of such a variation. Under the influence of a planet rotating around a star, the latter demonstrates periodic motion manifested in the Doppler shift of the stellar spectrum. Precise measurements of this shift made it possible to indirectly discover planets outside the Solar system (exoplanets). Along with this, searching for Earth-type exoplanets within the habitable zone is an important challenge. For this purpose, accuracy of spectral measurements has to allow one to determine radial velocity variations at the level of centimeters per second during the timespans of about a year. Suchmeasurements on the periods of 10–15 years also would serve as a directmethod for determination of assumed acceleration of the Universe expansion. However, the required accuracy of spectroscopic measurements for this exceeds the possibilities of the traditional spectroscopy (an iodine cell, spectral lamps). Methods of radical improvement of possibilities of astronomical Doppler spectroscopy allowing one to attain the required measurement accuracy of Doppler shifts are considered. The issue of precise calibration can be solved through creating a system of a laser optical frequency generator of an exceptionally high accuracy and stability.  相似文献

We describe Doppler-only radar observations of near-Earth asteroids 2062 Aten, 2101 Adonis, 3103 Eger, 4544 Xanthus, and 1992 QN that were obtained at Arecibo and Goldstone between 1984 and 1996. Estimates of the echo spectral bandwidths, radar cross sections, and circular polarization ratios of these objects constrain their pole-on breadths, radar albedos, surface roughnesses, taxonomic classes, rotation periods, and pole directions. Aten's bandwidth is consistent with its radiometrically determined diameter of 0.9 km. Adonis has a rotation periodP≤ 11 h and an effective diameter (the diameter of a sphere with the same projected area as the asteroid) between 0.3 and 0.8 km. The radar properties of Adonis suggest it is not a member of taxonomic classes C or M. The effective diameter of Xanthus is between 0.4 and 2.2 km with a rotation periodP≤ 20 h. Echoes from 1992 QN constrain the asteroid's pole-on breadth to be ≥0.6 km and probably exclude it from the C and M taxonomic classes. The strongest Eger echoes are asymmetric with bandwidths that set lower bounds of 1.5 and 2.3 km on the minimum and maximum breadths of the asteroid's pole-on silhouette. If Eger is modeled as a 1.5 × 2.3 km biaxial ellipsoid, then its effective diameter for an equatorial view is 1.5 km end-on and 1.9 km broadside or pole-on, implying a geometric albedo smaller than published values but still consistent with a classification as an E-type object. The near-unity circular polarization ratios of Adonis, Eger, and 1992 QN are among the highest values measured for any asteroid or comet and suggest extreme near-surface roughness at centimeter to meter scales.  相似文献
