We report photometry for nine asteroids at wavelengths of 1.25, 1.65, and 2.22 μm. Three C-type objects (88, 129, and 511) seem slightly redder in H?K and J?H color indices than four S-type objects (5, 6, 7, and 116) and an E-type object (64). Eros has an unusually red J?H color index; its infrared spectral reflectance is consistent with an appreciable quantity of metallic iron plus some pyroxene and olivine on its surface. JHK photometry is less diagnostic of composition than either higher resolution spectrophotometry in the infrared or spectrophotometry at shorter wavelengths.  相似文献

The telescope SBG (D = 0.42 m, F = 0.76 m) at the Kourovka Astronomical Observatory of the Ural Federal University has undergone an upgrade in 2005–2006. A CCD camera (Apogee Alta U32) and a new drive system were installed, and a new system for telescope and observation control was implemented. This upgrade required verifying the astrometric quality of the telescope. The data processing approaches tested when searching for the optimum CCD image processing technique combined TYCHO2 and UCAC2 catalogues with various reduction models and methods for choosing reference stars. Lorentzian and Moffat profiles were used in the measurement of pixel coordinates. It was demonstrated that the accuracy of SBG observations of main-belt asteroids with precisely determined orbits depends on their brightness and varies from 0.06” (11.5 m ) to 0.4” (18.5 m ). Regular SBG observations of comets and asteroids (mostly near-Earth and potentially hazardous ones) have been performed since 2007. Coordinates of 8515 positions of 720 asteroids and more than 1000 positions of 40 comets were obtained. The RMS deviations of observed coordinates from their calculated values are typically smaller than 1”: the average deviations for asteroids are 0.33” (in right ascension) and 0.34” (in declination); the corresponding values for comets are 0.37” (in α) and 0.38” (in δ). The results of observations are sent to the Minor Planet Center and are used to determine orbits more accurately and solve other fundamental and applied problems.  相似文献

Results of astrometric and BVRI photometric observations of the active asteroid (596) Scheila are presented. The observations were carried out at the Zeiss-1000 telescope of the Sanglokh International Astronomical Observatory of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan on June 16?17 and from July 30 to August 1, 2017. The coordinates of the object and its orbit were determined; and the apparent brightness in four filters, the absolute brightness in the V and R filters, and the color indices were obtained. The light curves suggest that no substantial changes in the asteroid’s brightness occurred during the observations. The absolute brightness of the asteroid in the V and R filters was (9.1 ± 0.05)m and (8.8 ± 0.03)m, respectively. The mean value of the asteroid diameter was (119 ± 2) km. The mean values of the color indices (B?V = (0.72 ± 0.05)m, V?R = (0.29 ± 0.03)m, and R?I = (0.31 ± 0.03)m) agree well with the values for asteroids of the P- and D-types and its averages. The rotation period of the asteroid estimated from photometric observations was 16.1 ± 0.2 h. The analysis of the data has shown that the asteroid continues to exhibit the same values of absolute brightness and other characteristics as those before the collision with a small body in December 2010, though the latter resulted in the outburst event and cometary activity of the asteroid. Most likely, the collision of asteroid (596) Scheila with a small body did not lead to catastrophic changes in the surface of the asteroid or to its compete break-up.  相似文献

For absolute magnitudes greater than the current completeness limit of H-magnitude ∼15 the main asteroid belt's size distribution is imperfectly known. We have acquired good-quality orbital and absolute H-magnitude determinations for a sample of small main-belt asteroids in order to study the orbital and size distribution beyond H=15, down to sub-kilometer sizes (H>18). Based on six observing nights over a 11-night baseline we have detected, measured photometry for, and linked observations of 1087 asteroids which have one-week time baselines or more. The linkages allow the computation of full heliocentric orbits (as opposed to statistical distances determined by some past surveys). Judged by known asteroids in the field the typical uncertainty in the (a/e/i) orbital elements is less than 0.03 AU/0.03/0.5°. The distances to the objects are sufficiently well known that photometric uncertainties (of 0.3 magnitudes or better) dominate the error budget of their derived H-magnitudes. The detected asteroids range from HR=12-22 and provide a set of objects down to sizes below 1 km in diameter. We find an on-sky surface density of 210 asteroids per square degree in the ecliptic with opposition magnitudes brighter than mR=23, with the cumulative number of asteroids increasing by a factor of 100.27/mag from mR=18 down to the mR?23.5 limit of our survey. In terms of absolute H magnitudes, we find that beyond H=15 the belt exhibits a constant power-law slope with the number increasing proportional to 100.30H from H?15 to 18, after which incompleteness begins in the survey. Examining only the subset of detections inside 2.5 AU, we find weak evidence for a mildly shallower slope for H=15-19.5. We provide the information necessary such that anyone wishing to model the main asteroid belt can compare a detailed model to our detected sample.  相似文献

Near-simultaneous R- and J-band photometric measurements of the short-period Comets 2P/Encke and the Deep Impact mission target 9P/Tempel 1 were obtained. The resulting R-J colors are +0.82±0.08 mag and +1.46±0.13 mag for Encke and Tempel 1, respectively. Tempel 1's color is redder than the solar R-J color index of +0.76. The Tempel 1 observations directly detected the nucleus while the Encke observations likely suffered from coma contamination.  相似文献

We have analyzed our long-term (1995–2008) JHKLM photometry for three variable RV Tau supergiants. It follows from this analysis that: the amplitude of the JHK brightness variations is approximately the same, 0 m . 9–1 m , for the three stars; a negative linear trend is noticeable in the variations of the mean J brightness for AC Her; and the mean J brightness of R Sct and V Vul remained constant. The observed J brightness fluctuations in the supergiants are shown to be consistent either only with the temperature pulsations (AC Her and V Vul) or with the temperature and radial pulsations (R Sct). We have detected long-term pulsations in the J brightness and J-H color variations of the supergiants with the following characteristic time scales: ∼1500 days (AC Her), ∼3500 days (R Sct), and ∼800 and ∼1500 days (V Vul). Our search for a periodic component in the infrared brightness variations of the three stars has revealed periods that differ from those obtained from optical observations. We show that relatively hot dust shells (T d ∼ 700–800 K) exist around the supergiants under study; the densest and most massive shell was observed for V Vul. The ranges of optical-depth variations for the dust shells were τ(1.25 μm) ≈ 0.04–0.10 (AC Her), ≈0.02–0.12 (R Sct), and ≈0.18–0.32 (V Vul). The spectral types in the infrared varied over narrower ranges than those that followed from optical observations of these stars.  相似文献

We used observations at 4 oppositions to calculate the rotation of the asteroid (16) Psyche. Our results are 1) the pole is λ 225°, β = +5° (1950.0), 2) the rotation is direct, and 3) the sidereal period is 4h 11m 45s.42 ± 0s.01.At the three oppositions of 1955, 1965 and 1980, the relative positions of the Sun, the Earth and the asteroids were almost the same, and the observed light curves were also nearly the same. Therefore, this asteroid may be said to have shown no precession over the 20 years observed.  相似文献

We present the results of our infrared JHK photometry for the unusual UX Ori star V1184 Tau. Comparison with previous observations performed before the catastrophic decline in its optical brightness in 2004 (when the star faded approximately by a factor of 100) has shown the following: the star faded approximately by 2 m and 1 m in the J and H bands, respectively, while its K brightness remained almost constant. This pattern of infrared variability seems incompatible with the mechanism of variable circumstellar extinction responsible for the dramatic decline in the star’s optical brightness. However, if this mechanism is considered in the context of an accretion disk model with a puffed-up inner rim in the dust sublimation zone and with a disk wind producing an expanding gas-dust atmosphere above the disk surface, then the paradox can be resolved. In this model, the photometric activity of V1184 Tau in both visible and near-infrared spectral ranges, including the sharp brightness decline in 2004, can be explained by an increase in the geometric thickness of the disk in the dust sublimation zone caused by enhanced accretion of circumstellar matter onto the star. There is reason to believe that such events occur periodically and result from the presence of a companion to V1184 Tau moving in a highly eccentric orbit. The offered interpretation of the photometric activity of V1184 Tau allows this object to be classified as an UX Ori star based on the observed photometric effect and, at the same time, as a FU Ori star based on the pattern of the physical process that produced this effect.  相似文献

On the base of CCD-observations made with the axial meridian circle of the Nikolaev Observatory from 2008 to 2009, we compiled a catalogue for astrometric positions and proper motions for 140321 stars located in an ecliptic zone and around high proper motion stars. The root-meansquare error for a star position is 20–65 mas in right ascension and 30–70 mas in declination. The UCAC2 catalogue is used as a reference for astrometric reductions. To derive stars’ proper motion and to estimate systematic errors of the compiled catalogue, cross-identification of the obtained data with modern astronomic catalogues Tycho2, 2MASS, CMC14, LSPM, PPMX, USNO-A2, and XPM-1.0 is performed. In addition to star position and proper motion, our catalogue contains photometric values B, V, r’, J, H, and K taken from other catalogues.  相似文献

Our 8-year-long JHKLM photometry of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068 has confirmed its IR variability. The amplitudes of the brightness variations in the J (1.25 μm) and K (2.2 μm) bands are within 0 . m 15 and 0 . m 3, respectively, and exceed the observational errors by more than a factor of 5. The nucleus of NGC 1068 is a variable source and can be at different phases of activity. The brightness of the galaxy in all bands except J decreased from 1998 until 2004. In this period, there was a tendency for the J brightness to increase. The variable source in NGC 1068 is a complex structured object. At least two sources radiate in the wavelength range 1.25–5 μm: a hot source whose radiation shows up in the range 1.25–1.65 μm and a cold source radiating at long wavelengths (2.2–5 μm). The color temperature of the hot source increased from 2300 K (the beginning of our observations) to ∼2700 K (the end of our observations). In contrast, the temperature of the cold source decreased by several tens of degrees (in the temperature range 800–900 K). The IR brightness and color variations observed in 1998–2004 are attributable to the dispersal of the dust envelope that formed around the galactic nucleus some 30 years ago and reached its maximum density in 1994–1995. Our analysis of the spectral energy distributions for the galaxy has shown that the observed radiation in the range 1.25–5 μm can be represented as the sum of radiations from two blackbody sources. For the first period of our observations (JD 2451400), the temperatures of the hot and cold sources are ∼3100 and 760 K, respectively. For the second period (JD 2453230), they are ∼3200 and 720 K, respectively. The hot source is relatively compact; it is smaller in size than the cold source by several tens of times. The mean sizes of the hot and cold sources are ∼2.35 × 1016 and ∼7.8 × 1017 cm, respectively. The total mean luminosity of the two sources did not change between the beginning and the end of our observations. The optical depth of the dust envelope averaged over the spectrum of the hot source is τ ∼ 1.5. In 2004, the state of the dust envelope almost returned to its 1974 level, i.e., the dust envelope formation and dispersal cycle was ∼11 000 days (∼30 yr). Original Russian Text ? O.G. Taranova, V.I. We present and discuss the results of our long-term JHKLM photometry for two RV Tau stars (R Sge and RV Tau) and the yellow supergiant V1027 Cyg, a candidate for protoplanetary nebulae. The amplitude of the infrared brightness variations in R Sge and RV Tau over fourteen years of observations was 0 . m 9?1 m ; the infrared brightness variations in V1027 Cyg over eighteen years did not exceed 0 . m 25. The infrared brightness and color of R Sge fluctuated about their gradually changing mean values; the infrared brightness variations agree with a period of 70.77 days. The periodic J brightness and J-H color variations in R Sge can be explained by temperature pulsations with ΔT ≤ 200 K and radial pulsations with [ΔR/R] ≤ 0.2. From 1995 to 2008, the mean J brightness of RV Tau increased, while its mean J-H color index decreased; the variations in the mean J brightness can be associated mainly with stellar temperature variations; a periodic component with P = 78.73 days is observed in the infrared brightness and color fluctuations. The variations in the mean J brightness and J-H color index of the supergiant V1027 Cyg over eighteen years of observations did not exceed a few hundredths of a magnitude; both temperature and radial pulsations may be present in the observed J brightness variations. The most probable period of the infrared brightness fluctuations in V1027 Cyg is 237 ± 2 days. The dust shell of R Sge may consist of two layers with grain temperatures of ~1000 and ~700 K; the optical depth at 1.25 µm is ~0.02 and ~0.24, respectively. The grain temperatures in the circumstellar dust shells of the supergiants RV Tau and V1027 Cyg are ~600 K (RV Tau) and ~700 K (V1027 Cyg). Their optical depths at 1.25 µm are ~0.24 (RV Tau) and ~0.008 (V1027 Cyg).  相似文献

The observations and the plate reduction technique for the determination of positions and absolute proper motions which is used in Potsdam are described. Recent results have shown that an accuracy of about 0 . 1 for positions and 0 . 7 cent . –1 for proper motions can be achieved both for bright (8m–12m) and faint (16m–18m) stars. An extended photometric time series in the J and K bands of Neptune has a complex appearance which appears to require the simultaneous presence of three periodicities plus related harmonics in the (J-K) color. The most apparent of the fundamental periods is N1 = 17.73 hr. The two others are at N2 = 18.56 and N3 = 18.29 hr and may be the result of amplitude modulation of a previously reported period of 18.42 hr. We interpret the presence of multiple periodicity as indicating that distinct systems of zonal winds exist on the planet. We argue that these wind systems are probably confined to moderate or high latitudes on the basis of recent omages of the planet taken in a spectral region of strong CH4 absorption, and, by analogy to the zonal wind systems that exist in Jupiter's atmosphere, deduce a period of rotation for the body of the planet of 18.2 ± 0.4 hr. Zonal wind contrasts of up to 109 m sec?1 are implied in the atmosphere of Neptune by these observations.  相似文献

From astrometric observations of minor planet (1566) Icarus from 1949 to 1987 were made solutions for improved orbital elements of Icarus and the quadrupole moment of the Sun. Infrared observations, including photometry, spectroscopy, and J, H, and K lightcurves, of Comet P/Arend-Rigaux, suspected of being a near-extinct comet nucleus, are consistent with the detection of a rotating nucleus of radius 5.1 ± 1.1 km and a faint coma. The visual geometric albedo of the nucleus is 0.02 ± 0.01, placing the nucleus among the darkest objects in the Solar System. The near-infrared spectrum exhibits a red slope with no clear evidence of ice. A nonvolatile dust mantle compositionally similar to D-type asteroids may explain the observations.  相似文献

The transformation of the line and molecular spectra of R CrB from absorption to emission at the 1985 minimum is traced from spectroscopic observations, and it is concluded for the first time, from a comparison with light curves and color indices, that the rapid variation of the color index UB by –0m.6 during fading is due exclusively to this transformation. The transformation of the spectrum can result in an increase in the star's brightness in the UBV photometric bands by about 1m.4, 0m.75, and up to 0m.75, respectively. This removes one of the main objections to using the concept of a homogeneous spherical shell to interpret the R Coronae Borealis phenomenon. High-resolution spectroscopic observations of SV Sge, a star with variability of the R Coronae Borealis type, showed the presence of an intense circumstellar component in Na I D lines with a violet shift corresponding to 240 km/sec, which is unrelated to visible brightness minima. It is suggested that a stream of matter with such a velocity through the star's vicinity is the cause of the excitation not only of the broad emission features observed during brightness minima upon fading of the photospheric emission but also of the narrow ones. Assuming that a brightness minimum is associated with the temporary formation of another spherical screening shell, some characteristics of the permanent shell are determined. Its optical depth and geometrical thickness are 0.2-0.7 and at least 0.4 of its radius, respectively.  相似文献

The magnetometer investigation aboard the NEAR-Shoemaker spacecraft has obtained extensive magnetic field observations throughout the 433 Eros environment, from distances in excess of 100,000 km to those conducted after landing on 12 February 2001. We report the apparent absence of global scale magnetization at this asteroid (H<0.005 A·m−1; natural remanent magnetization per kilogram <1.9×10−6 A·m2 ·kg−1), orders of magnitude less than the intense magnetization attributed to S-class asteroids Gaspra and Braille. The extremely low magnetization state of 433 Eros places this object significantly below the levels generally associated with LL chondrites and undifferentiated primitive bodies, challenging our current understanding of the meteorite-asteroid connection.  相似文献

We are monitoring a 6° wide stripe along the southern Galactic disk simultaneously in the r and i bands, using a robotic 15‐cm twin telescope of the Universitätsternwarte Bochum near Cerro Armazones in Chile. Utilising the telescope's 2.7° field of view, the survey aims at observing a mosaic of 268 fields once per month and to monitor dedicated fields once per night. The survey reaches a sensitivity from 10m down to 18m (AB system), with a completeness limit of r ∼ 15.5m and i ∼ 14.5m which – due to the instrumental pixel size of 2.″4 – refers to stars separated by >3″. This brightness range is ideally suited to examine the intermediately bright stellar population supposed to be saturated in deep variability surveys with large telescopes. To connect to deep surveys or to explore faint long term variables, coadded images of several nights reach a depth of ∼ 20m. The astrometric accuracy is better than 1″, as determined from the overlap of neighbouring fields. We describe the survey design, the data properties and our procedures to derive the light curves and to extract variable stars. We present a list of ∼2200 variable stars identified in 50 square degrees with 50‐80 observations between May and October 2011. For bright stars the variability amplitude A reaches down to A ∼ 0.05m, while at the faint end variations of A > 1m are detected. About 200 stars were known tobe variable, and their amplitudes and periods – as far as determinable from our six month monitoring – agree with literature values, demonstrating the performance of the Bochum Galactic Disk Survey (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. By studying color variations between young and old asteroid families we find evidence for processes that modify colors of asteroids over time. We show that colors of aging surfaces of S-type asteroids become increasingly ‘redder’ and measure the rate of these spectral changes. We estimate that the mean spectral slope between 0.35 and 0.9 μm increases with time t (given in My) as ≈0.01 μm−1×log10t. This empirical fit is valid only for 2.5?t?3000 My (the time interval where we have data) and for the mean spectral slope determined from wide-wavelength filter photometry obtained by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We also find that Gy-old terrains of S-type asteroids reflect about 15% more light at ∼1-μm wavelengths than an ∼5-My-old S-type asteroid surface when the flux is normalized by the reflected light at 0.55 μm. We attribute these effects to space weathering. This result has important implications for asteroid geology and the origin of meteorites that reach the Earth. Our results also suggest that surfaces of C-type asteroids exhibit color alterations opposite to those of the S-type asteroids.  相似文献
