Abstract:	By using ground based magnetic observations and by assuming a three-dimensional current system model the conductivity ratio $∑_{H} ∑_{P}$ is calculated for several substorms. It is shown that this ratio decreases when the field aligned current intensity is enhanced. The enhancement is connected with a broadening of the electrojet region.
