Catch Distribution of Ommastrephes batramii and its Relationship with Sea Surface Temperature in the North Pacific Ocean in 2006

Abstract:Ommastrephes bartramii is one of the important fishing targets in the Chinese squid jigging fishery, It plays a significant realistic role and has practical value to study the spatio-temporal distribution of fishing ground and its relationship with sea surface temperature (SST). Based on the catch data from Chinese squid jigging vessels in the North Pacific Ocean from May to November in 2006, the production and catch per day distribution and their relationship with SST with the format of 1° latitude by 1° longitude were analyzed by software of marine GIS. The results indicated that the catch were mainly concentrated in the waters near 39°N~42°N,170~172°E in June, and the SST ranged from 14 to 15 ℃. The catch were mainly concentrated in the waters near 40°N~42°N,159°E~161°E, and the SST ranged from 14 ℃ to 15 ℃ in July. From August to November, the catch were mainly concentrated in the waters near 41°N~44°N,151°E~156°E, and the optimum SST was 17~18 ℃ in August, 15~16 ℃ in September, 13~14 ℃ in October, and 11~13 ℃ in November. The K-S test indicated that there had a significant relationship between SST and daily catch (P<0.05).
