A Case Study of WebGIS Applications in the Digital City Construction of Southern California in US

A successful application case study of WebGIS technology in the digital city construction of Southern California has been presented in this paper.Through the introduction of the systems' structures and technical routes of Land Documents Query and E-Commerce Information Systems of Orange County,the basic characteristics and technical problems of several main WebGIS software packages,such as ArcIMS,Geomedia Web Map,Mapguide and MapXtreme,have also been analyzed and a new WebGIS method-SVG based WebGIS technology has been introduced.The advantages and basic technical routes of this new method have also been described and the practice of this system's development has proved the performance of this new SVG based WebGIS technology.This application shows the powerful functions of SVG based WebGIS technology in the digital city construction field.Through seamless integration with other information technology,such as E-Commerce,OA and File Management Systems,WebGIS technology has propelled GIS applications into a new stage and plays greater roles in the digital city constructions.It can be prospected that this case study will be a good reference for our Chinese digital city construction and GIS applications.
