A PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS AND CALCULATION OF HEAT CONTENT OF THE KUROSHIO IN THE EAST CHINA SEA
Abstract:The data used in this paper are from "The results of marine meteorological and oceanographical observation" published by Japan Meteorological Agency. The heat contents of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea, taken irom the deep-sea temperature observation data in the G section during 1957-1980 are calculated. We therefore discussed the variational charasteristics of heat content of the Kuroshio as well as the relationships between heat content and the volume transports of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea, sea surface temperature fields of the northern Pacific and EL NINO in the eastern tropical Pacific. In addition, calculation of the periods of oscillation of heat content on the active layer (0-200 meter depth) and baroclinic layer (0-600 meter depth) of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea are also carried out with maximum entrapy method. The results showed that dominant oscillation periods of the heat content on the active layer is approximately 2 years and 7 years, but 3.5 years on the baroclinic layer.
