| Abstract: | Sixty 14C data show that peat in coastal area of Fujian has mainly formed during the period of 42000 years past, which can be divided into five developmental phases as follows:42000-40000 years B. P., 33000-31000 years B. P., 26000-21000 years B.P., 14000-9000 years B.P., and 5500-700 years B. P. Sporopollen analyses reveal that the favorable climatic condition for peat formation is humid, including the temperatehumid, warm-humid, and hot-humid conditions. The developmental phases of peat are in correspondence with the period of slowly rising, slowly falling, and relatively stable sea-levels, indicating that the regional hydrological conditions may play a determinant role in the formation and development of peat in coastal areas. |
