Vertical seismic response analysis of a high-rise building containing a steel truss transfer story structure with large span

A FEA model was established for a high-rise building with steel truss transfer story.The vertical seismic responses of this structure were analyzed by using the mode decomposition response-spectra method,the time history analysis method and the design response-spectra method of the Chinese Code for seismic design of buildings(GB5001-2001).The mode number and the mode combination method,which were selected in analyzing seismic response using the mode decomposition response spectrum method,were investigated.And the applicability of one of the provisions in the Code,which considered the effect of vertical seismic action by 10% gravity load representative value,was also investigated.The results show that the cross-correlation between modal responses is proposed to be taken into account and the CQC combination method is proposed to be adopted in the analysis of vertical seismic response of large span transfer story structure with irregular elevation and/or plan design.For some members of the truss,the nominal value of vertical seismic action calculated by 10% gravity load representative value is unsafe.
