Geochimie des illites du Gres a Voltzia du (Buntsandstein superieur) des Vosges du Nord,France

Abstract:The fine-particle fraction of the triassic formation of the Grès à Toltzia (sandstone) in the Vosges Mountains is often made up of pure illite. Chemical analyses, done on about one hundred samples, did not show any variation in the chemical composition of the major elements from one facies to the other. The amounts of B, Li, Rb, Cr and Sr however are different according to whether the illites come from the sandstony, dolomitic or argillaceous facies. The progressive increase of these amounts is a function of water concentration in the environment of deposition, and this is in good agreement with the paleontological and sedimentological results.
