Abstract: | ![]() Approximate expressions are derived for the number of civilizations within a few tens of light years of each other since intelligent life first evolved in the Galaxy. The number is proportional to the square of the usual selectivity factors and to the first power of the longevity. Arguments are presented for expecting intelligent life in certain multiple star systems, and the number of coexistent civilizations in such systems is estimated. |
