Military value of Galileo navigation satellite system

Europe's Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS-2), which is known as Galileo system, is a civil global navigation satellite system being developed by the European Union (EU) and the European Space Agency (ESA). Although the system is designed for civil navigation service, at the same time it may be with some potential military value. Based on some foreign references, the paper discusses its military benefits, and analyses in its detailed military uses of Public Regulated Service in enhancing availability, improving navigation accuracy, ensuring logistical automation and increasing the availability in urban area. Finally, some views on Galileo military applications are given.
