An upper limit of the column density of the C5 linear molecule in translucent interstellar clouds is estimated from high-resolution ( R =80 000) and very high signal-to-noise ratio (∼1000) echelle spectra. It is 1012 cm−2 per E ( B − V )=1 (two orders of magnitude lower than that of C2). |
