| Abstract: | The author discusses urbanization in Southern Asia during the period 1950-1980 using U.N. estimates. Urbanization in the region as a whole is compared with trends in other developing regions, and differences among the experiences of seven countries of Southern Asia are examined. Tabular information is provided on urbanization levels and urban population growth rates for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. |
