Abstract: | Using the low altitude MAGSAT satellite data, NASA recently published a new global magnetic map of anomalies. Using this new accurate map and paleomagnetic reconstructions of Gondwanaland, we point out that long wavelength anomalies were continuous in continents that are presently separated. Thus, continental drift would not significantly affect the geometry of these deep-source anomalies. Accordingly, the magnetization of the rocks responsible for these anomalies should mainly be induced. |
