Abstract: | Paleomagnetic study of core samples drilled through 456 cm vertical thickness of the Tirupati sandstones formation of Lower to Middle Cretaceous age from Godavary Valley in India is reported. The results give a strong evidence of a geomagnetic field reversal during the period of magnetization of this formation. This field reversal is opposite in sense to that observed in Deccan traps of Cretaceous to Eocene age by several workers, thus suggesting that there have been at least two field reversals during this period. |
