Abstract:A nuclear power plant is to be constructed in Sanmen county of Zhejiang Province, where there will be a rocky slope with length of about 180 m and the maximum height of about 53 m. The distance between the slope toe and the nuclear island is about 50 m; so the stability of the slope should be evaluated. This paper applied engineering geological analogy method, stereographic projection method and finite element program MARC to evaluate the rocky slope stability. It is concluded that the slope is overall stable when the slope angle is smaller than 60°. The slope angle 55°or so is suggested for practical engineering; and grade sloping should be carried out with the height of every segment 8.0-10.0 m and the width of berm about 3.0 m.
