| Abstract: | The definition of the Sinian System(Period) has been changed multiple times and the debate on the concept of the System(Period) has never been stopped since its original publication.The term Sinian and the "stratotype section" of the system were not chosen as the formal name of the informal "terminal Proterozoic system(period)" and the GSSP of the system respectively during the international competitions.The Sinian System(Period),as defined by the most recent revision,is equivalent to that of the global Ediacaran System(Period) which has been approved by the International Commission on Stratigraphy and ratified by the International Union of Geological Sciences.Thus,we recommend that the Ediacaran System be adopted to replace the "Sinian System" despite the popularity of the latter term among Chinese stratigraphers. |
