Abstract:This paper analyzes the focal mechanism solutions of 52 medium-small earthquakes and 6 groups of composite focal mechanism solutions in Fujian region and its vicinities from 1996 to 2005.The conclusions are as follows:1)The major tectonic movement in Fujian is tensional strike slip;2)The maximum principal stress axis (P-axis)of Fujian is mainly in NW direction,300-320°;3)There are mainly strike slip earthquakes in the costal region,and normal fault earthquakes in the inland region;4)The P axis directions change regularly from the north to south of Fujian region which are NNW in the north and NWW to near EW in the south.
