Speleological characteristics of alpine karst in Slovenia,northwestern Yugoslavia

A short introduction to Slovene alpine karst, i.e. surface, geological base, hypsometric divisions, orography, and climate conditions is presented first. According to previous data there are three types of alpine karst in Slovenia: high-mountainous karst, doline karst, and karst on conglomerate and alluvial surface. The article then gives a general view of the caverns in the Slovene Alps; altogether there are over 1000 registered and explored caverns. Different numeric data are added, together with mean values. Types of caverns are compared between them and with different types of alpine land.
