Abstract:
We consider the kinetic problem of charged-particle acceleration in a magnetic trap with converging magnetic mirrors. We show that for a positive electrostatic potential of the trap plasma relative to the mirrors, the efficiency of confinement and acceleration increases for electrons and decreases for ions.
