| Abstract: | A model is discussed for a possible type of thermal instability in the outer layers of the Moon. An estimate is made for the temperature differential driving the instability. It is suggested that such an instability may have been involved in the formation of the lunar maria.Paper dedicated to Prof. Harold C. Urey on the occasion of his 80th birthday on 29 April 1973. |
