The Carboniferous of the Gerze area, Xizang

The Carboniferous strata in Gerze of northern Xizang consists mainly of limestone intercalated with a little sandstone and yielded abundant fossils. Bast-d on the fossils and the sedimentary feature, the strata may be divided into two formations: The Gongmarco Formation consiss of brown-grey sandstone, yielding Cyathhoxonia sp., Amplexus romonovskyi, 4. stukerberga. It is considered to be of Namurian age. The Rewangzharkar Formation consists of grey limestone intercalated with a little sandstone in the upper part, yielding Kuichouphyllum sp., Arachonolasma sp., Gigantoproductcs sp., Stratifera sp., Prolecanites sp. and Nomismoceras sp.. It is consideted to be Visean in age.
