摘    要:划分地层的数学方法有多种,不同方法的差别,主要反映不同学者对地层划分原则的不同理解。本文探讨地层划分的基本原则、数学模型以及两者之间的关系。

Abstract:In order to evaluate the nature of various mathematical models of stratigraphic classification, it is essential to transform the traditional classification rules into a unique theory——a theoretical model. It was found that the model composed of two main points, i.e. astratigraphic unit should possess internal uniqueness and recognizable and stable boundaries.There are two main groups of mathematical models, one is based on the concept of variance and the other the simple differences between adjacent observations. The former one is named the V-type model for simplicity, and the latter the I-type model. As compared with the theoretical model, the V-type models merely meet the internal uniqueness criterion, while the I-type models meet the requirement about the boundaries. From the practicing point of view, the I-type models may be superior to the V-type models in some instances.
