Abstract: | A rapid method for the analysis of fluoride in silicate rocks is described. The sample is heated in a stream of oxygen and superheated steam (pyrohydrolysis), and fluoride determined spectrophotometrically as the purple-blue double complex with the cerium chelate of alizarin fluorine blue (3-maminomethylalizarin-NN-diacetic acid). 5 p.p.m. F− can readily be determined using 1 g of sample. |
