依据再造西北地区山川秀美项目所获得的成果和认识,回顾了西北地区再造山川秀美的历史及其理论认识的发展,进而介绍了这一重大项目在试验示范方面所取得的重要成果——大量试验区的建立(即模式的建立)。这些模式分布在陕西、甘肃、宁夏、青海、新疆等省区的典型地域,包括黄土高原、沙漠、戈壁、绿洲、草地、荒漠以及江河源区等,并对这些具有代表性的模式作了论述,介绍了其建立过程、关键技术、功能效益、适用地域等。基于理论与实践的结合,证明再造西北地区山川秀美具有有力的科技支撑和广大群众基础,是可实现的千秋伟业。最后,对进一步推进再造山川秀美提出了建议。
