The Permo Carboniferous strata of the Yuerhong Basin, Gansu—with the discussion on the age of the mixed Cathaysian Angarian flora in the northern Qilian Mountains

The Permo Carboniferous strata in the Yuerhong(Yüerhhung) Basin consist of the Yangfugou Formation and the Yaogou Group. The former is a diachronous stratigraphical unit and contains both the middle—late Late Carboniferous and the early Early Permian deposits. The latter may be compared lithologically with the Yaogou Group in other places of the northern Qilian Mountains. and is of Late Permian age. The Dahuanggou Formation is absent here. Some members of the Euramerican or Cathaysian Flora, including Lepidodendron carinum, L. dichotomum, Cathaysiodendron nanpiaoense, Bothrodendron circulare, Conchophyllum parvifolim, Paripteris pseudogigantea, Linopteris germarii, Desmopteris cf. longifolia , have been collected from the Yangfugou Formation. But no Angaran type plants were found both in the Yangfugou Formation and the Yaogou Group. So some members of the Angaran Flora described by Bohlin(1971) are probably not from the Yuerhong Basin, but from the Upper Permian of the Erdaochuan, which is near to the Yuerhong Basin. The age of the mixed Cathaysian Angaran Flora of the northern Qilian Mountains, according to literatures up to now, is of late Late Permian age.
