Tidal potential due to general bodies |

| Abstract: | The exact definition of the tidal potential is given on the basis of the theory of the restricted three-body problem. There are no limitations as regards the perturbing terms in the gravitational fields of the tide forming bodies; andno a priori conditions are needed in the definition. |
