Entropy as criterion of heterogeneity of rocks

Statistical entropy of a multicomponent material (mechanical) system, such as sediments or rocks, particularly the relative entropy, is shown to be an easily calculable, simple and meaningful index of heterogeneity of the system, well suited for diagrammatic representations and for stratigraphic and/or lithological mapping. – V.
