Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Chemistry of Reactive Halogen Compounds in the Lower Troposphere

This issue of the Journal of Atmospheric Chemistry contains a series of contributions describing recent developments in our understanding of the heterogeneous and homogeneous chemistry of reactive halogen compounds in the lower Troposphere. Twelve papers describe recent results in this very active area of research, were reported at the Annual Assembly of the European Geophysical Society 1998 in Nice, France, 20-24 April 1998. Considerable progress is documented on the elucidation of the various processes involved in the sources, transformation pathways and chemical consequences of the Reactive Halogen Species (RHS) in the troposphere.
