Abstract:Round-trip leveling can improve not only the accuracy and check for mistakes and gross errors, but also greatly increase the workload of field survey. By using the digital level, the precision and reliability of modern leveling are greatly improved. In this context, a digital level based leveling method aided by GNSS geodetic height is proposed. The method uses GNSS geodetic height data to check the quality of single-pass leveling results, and corrects gross errors and mistakes of which no return leveling is carries out. By this method the workload of field survey can be significantly reduced. It is especially fit for the third and fourth order leveling for linear engineering such as highway engineering, which can also be applied to checking of the first and second order leveling results. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the method are verified by a highway engineering elevation control survey project in Africa.
