Abstract: | Quartz forming in aluminum-saturated environments has a trace aluminum content which varies linearly and directly with its temperature of crystallization. The aluminum content varies at a rate of approximately 1 ppm Al per 3.6° C change in temperature. Use of this geothermometer gives temperatures which are consistent with those expected by geologic reasoning or through the use of other geothermometers. |
