ANALYSES ON THE SHRINKAGE OF AIDING LAKE AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL VARIATION IN THE AREA AROUND THE LAKE

Aiding Lake is located in Turpan Basin which is the second lowest land in the world.The water flowing into the lake decreases sharply in recent years due to the more and more human activities, and the shrinkage speed of the lake is accelerated. Therefore, the environment in the area around the lake becomes worse, which reflects on the six aspects including the expansion of salt swamps and salt crust land, withered plants and deteriorated ecology, evolution of the landform types, more serious wind disasters, and degenerated inhabitant environment. The shrinkage and the environmental variation of the lake are affected not only by the natural factors, such as geology, landform, climate, evolution of the water systems, but also by human factors, for instance, extravagant water use, evaporation and leakage of the reserviors and ditches, destruction of vegetation, etc. Furthermore, the excessive water use is an important reason to accelerate tbe shrinkage of Aiding Lake since 1950's. The environmental evolution trend in the area around the lake is discussed, and some suggestions for protecting the natural environment are put forward in the paper.
