The shock event of October 6, 1597 is a strong deep earthquake

4 Conclusions Having compared the sensational phenomena of the shock event of 1597 in the northeastern part of our country with that of the deep earthquakes of 1940, 1973, 1999, 2002 in the northeastern part of our country, we think that, the shock event of 1597 is a sensational deep earthquake. The sensational range scale of the 1597 event is equivalent to that of a shallow earthquake of 8, and it led to the ground crack and the water gush in Kayuan, Liaoyang, Beizhen of Liaoning Province. Compared with the sensational range of the 1973 deep earthquake of M=7.7, it kooks as if it is over 7.7. The fact that for two times it caused the eruption of the Changbai Mountain volcano and strong earthquake shows that, the 1597 deep earthquake is a deep earthquake over 7.5 at least. The reasonable explanation for that the 1597 strong deep earthquake caused the land shock around the Bo Sea is of momentous significance to the seismological study in the easternregion of China, especially around the Bo Sea.
