Abstract: | Sedimentary sulfide ores in the Eastern-Alpine region are interpreted as internal cave deposits, and bedding controlled, ore-bearing breccias as solution-collapse structures effected by mineralizing, hydrothermal solutions. No diagnostic evidence is found for external sedimentation of sulfides on the sea-floor. Vertical distribution pattern of ore structures in Bleiberg which, in ascending order, include: metasomatic ores, mineralized vein breccias and bedding controlled ore breccias, is thought to reflect the rise of mineralizing solutions towards the earth surface. The stratabound solution-collapse breccias are interpreted as shallow-phreatic manifestations of hydrothermal karst processes.Mutual visits of Polish geoscientists in Austria, Italy and Yugoslavia and of Austrian geologists in the mines of Poland led to vivid discussions which are now presented with this contribution of two Polish colleagues. It is intended to continue this written dialogue and we would be glad if other scientists could join in to ensure general progress in our acknowledgement.Prof. Dr. L.
