This paper applied a logistic-based fuzzy logic inference system to integrate critical factors that could control orogenic gold mineralization in part of the Kushaka schist belt, north-central Nigeria to develop a process-based mineral potential mapping (MPM) of the area. The critical factors from geophysical and geological dataset were weighted using logistic functions. The fuzzy logic inference system provides the capability to handle complex geological processes that culminated in orogenic gold mineralization as well as minimizing systemic uncertainties/fuzziness that often plague MPM. The results of this work show that granitic intrusions with fuzzy scores of 0.67–0.90 played a major role in generating high geothermal gradient in the area. Seventy percent of the existing gold mine sites in the area spatially coincide with metasedimentary rocks, having fuzzy scores of 0.7–0.9; this suggests metasedimentary rocks as being responsible for the production of gold fluid and ligands in the area. The evidence of hydrothermal activity, with fuzzy scores of 0.53 and 0.91, confirms the occurrence of mineralization associated with quartz veins and granite rocks. Lithological contacts and faults, having fuzzy scores of 0.60–0.80, presumably contribute to the localization of orogenic gold mineralization in the area. Emerging from the results, favorable zones for primary orogenic gold mineralization in the area occurred predominantly on granite gneiss and quartz veins. The mineral potential map was found consistent with the local geology, structural styles and hydrothermal alteration signatures in the area, and its validation using the existing locations of geochemical anomalies and prediction–area rate curve in the study area showed 75 and 72% agreement, respectively, thus confirming the reliability of the developed mineral potential map for resource management.

The study evaluated the performance and suitability of AnnAGNPS model in assessing runoff, sediment loading and nutrient loading under Malaysian conditions. The watershed of River Kuala Tasik in Malaysia, a combination of two sub-watersheds, was selected as the area of study. The data for the year 2004 was used to calibrate the model and the data for the year 2005 was used for validation purposes. Several input parameters were computed using methods suggested by other researchers and studies carried out in Malaysia. The study shows that runoff was predicted well with an overall R2 value of 0.90 and E value of 0.70. Sediment loading was able to produce a moderate result of R2 = 0.66 and E = 0.49, nitrogen loading predictions were slightly better with R2 = 0.68 and E = 0.53, and phosphorus loading performance was slightly poor with an R2 = 0.63 and E = 0.33. The erosion map developed was in agreement with the erosion risk map produced by the Department of Agriculture, Malaysia. Rubber estates and urban areas were found to be the main contributors to soil erosion. The simulation results showed that AnnAGNPS has the potential to be used as a valuable tool for planning and management of watersheds under Malaysian conditions.  相似文献

The cellular automata (CA) model is an important tool in land use change studies. Swift increases in population and long-term expectations of rapid urbanization have led to extensive land use change, and normal living conditions have affected the natural resources of the land. This paper highlights and analyzes the historical urban changes in Kirkuk City, Iraq, considering repeated changes undergone by the state such change as government infrastructures, wars, and economic blockade. In this paper, an integrated model, built-in multi regression model, and multi-criteria evaluation were considered to improve the representation of CA transition rules. Environmental and socioeconomic factors were used to produce Suitable Maps (SMs). These SMs were practicalities to create factor layers and weight usage, rating method process for variance expert decision-making groups, and geographic information systems for the periods 1984, 1990, 2000, and 2010. The roots of the equation (R2) values are compared and these values are chosen to produce a good model of suitable maps. The approach used in this study provides a mechanism for monitoring suitability maps in Kirkuk. Furthermore, the model Markov CA is implemented and evaluated. A modeling tank time-lapse 2D electrical resistivity experiment was undertaken to model the leakage of petroleum products from underground pipelines into a clayey-sand aquifer. Numerical modeling was employed to simulate the electrode arrays that would resolve the post-leakage subsurface image most efficiently. Of the four arrays tested, the dipole–dipole array proved most effective and was adopted for the laboratory studies. Pre-injection surveys were conducted to assist in discriminating between features caused by hydrocarbon accumulation and those due to natural geologic variability. Subsequently, controlled injection of diesel–oil into the model tank was undertaken at regular intervals over a period of 3 days. Experimental evidence obtained from the studies indicates that high resistivity build up few hours after injection is directly related to hydrocarbon accumulation. Rather than biodegradation of the hydrocarbon, a more probable explanation for the observed decrease in resistivity observed a few hours after injection is simply that the hydrocarbons drained to a deeper level after pooling temporarily at a shallow level.  相似文献

This paper presents the mathematical relationship of electrical resistivity and dry density in compacted soil through electrical signal for geotechnical investigations. Monitoring of the compacted soil through electrical conductivity plays an important role in the construction of highway embankments, earth dams and many other engineering structures. Conventionally, soil compaction is measured through the estimation of maximum dry density at optimum moisture contents in laboratory tests. This conventional testing method is very tedious and costly especially when a lot of samples are involved. In this work, a mathematical model is developed to estimate the soil compaction on-site through electrical resistivity corresponding to the percentage of moisture contents in the compacted soil. The practical usage of the derived mathematical model is demonstrated using several soil samples for various types of soil.  相似文献

This paper presents how faster two dimensional (2-D) tomography of soil layers is obtained in geotechnical characteristics through multi-channel analysis of surface wave (MASW) method. MASW is developed as a new technique incorporating multiple receivers and 2-D wave-field transformations to obtain better performance in surface wave analysis. Incorporating 2-D tomography technique with multi-channel analysis offers an efficient and cost effective technique in soil site investigations. In the previous research, the Geo-SW@T software was designed and developed with collecting a lot of records including programming array technique to show the 2-D tomography in near surface soil profiling. To make a 2-D tomography of soil profile based on the past planned MASW technique is time consuming for collecting large database through 2-D array of programming language. In this paper, a new idea is established to obtain faster performance in soil tomography profile using array and sub-array technique in MASW. The performance of newly developed tomography technique with MASW method is estimated as faster and important tomography system for using one single record in soil characterizations rather than arranging of multiple records.  相似文献
