Granitic and gneissic xenoliths within microdiorite dykes from the Palaeozoic Jebilet massif (Morocco) contain up to 40% of granophyric intergrowths that occur as films along quartz-feldspar contacts and form an interconnected grain boundary network. The composition of the feldspar megacrysts — i.e. large embayed crystals surrounded by the granophyric intergrowths — implies high-temperature crystallisation (T >900 °C) and the sievetexture (or finger-print texture) indicates that these crystals underwent incipient melting. Moreover, the microstructural position and bulk composition of the granophyre are similar to that of glass in partly molten felsic xenoliths from lavas or pyroclastics. It is argued that the granophyre originated after partial melting of the xenoliths when incorporated into the dioritic magma. Crystallisation of that melt resulted in most cases in the formation of vermicular and/or cuneiform granophyre, which testifies to moderate degrees of undercooling. A few occurrences of plumose granophyre i.e. very thin intergrowths that are close to quartz-bearing spherulites, indicate that some xenoliths crystallised at higher degrees of undercooling.

Together with granophyric xenoliths, a number of microgranular inclusions also occur. These are characterized by phenocrysts of quartz and feldspar in a microgranular groundmass. Finger-print texture in feldspar suggests that these inclusions, like the granophyric xenoliths, underwent ultra-metamorphism and melting. The microgranular groundmass is most probably indicative of crystallisation at lower degrees of undercooling, but the relationships between the two types of xenoliths still remain to be explored in detail.  相似文献

The integrated use of geological, geophysical, and geochemical data from Eastern Tunisia onshore and offshore samples indicate a crustal thinning induced from the Tethyan rifting. This is responsible for the subsequent evolution of the North African passive margin during the Late Cretaceous, and the creation of the fold–thrust belt and associated foreland deformations. This thinned crust was an area of mantle upwelling that favoured the increase of isotherms, the uprise of basalt magma, and the circulation of hydrothermal fluids. The Cretaceous magmatism generated a major hydrothermal event characterised by the circulation of hot fluids along faults and a relatively high heat flow in the basin. Temperature elevation and hydrothermal conditions led to alteration of basalts and generated a new mineral equilibrium around the enclosing sedimentary deposits.  相似文献

In the Tifnoute Valley, three plutonic units have been defined: the Askaoun intrusion, the Imourkhssen intrusion and the Ougougane group of small intrusions. They are made of quartz diorite, granodiorite and granite and all contain abundant mafic microgranular enclaves (MME). The Askaoun granodiorite and the Imourkhssen granite have been dated by LA-ICP-MS on zircon at 558?±?2 Ma and 561?±?3 Ma, respectively. These granitic intrusions are subcontemporaneous to the widespread volcanic and volcano-detrital rocks from the Ouarzazate Group (580–545 Ma), marking the post-collisional transtensional period in the Anti-Atlas and which evolved towards alkaline and tholeiitic lavas in minor volume at the beginning of the Cambrian anorogenic intraplate extensional period. Geochemically, the Tifnoute Valley granitoids belong to an alkali-calcic series (high-K calc-alkaline) with typical Nb-Ta negative anomalies and no alkaline affinities. Granitoids and enclaves display positive εNd-560Ma (+0.8 to +3.5) with young Nd-TDM between 800 and 1200 Ma and relatively low 87Sr/86Sr initial ratios (Sri: 0.7034 and 0.7065). These values indicate a mainly juvenile source corresponding to a Pan-African metasomatized lithospheric mantle partly mixed with an old crustal component from the underlying West African Craton (WAC). Preservation in the Anti-Atlas of pre-Pan-African lithologies (c. 2.03 Ga basement, c. 800 Ma passive margin greenschist-facies sediments, allochthonous 750–700 Ma ophiolitic sequences) indicates that the Anti-Atlas lithosphere has not been thickened and was never an active margin during the Neoproterozoic. After a transpressive period, the late Ediacaran period (580–545 Ma) is marked by movement on near vertical transtensional faults, synchronous with the emplacement of the huge Ouarzazate Group and the Tifnoute Valley granitoids. We propose here a geodynamical model where the Tifnoute Valley granitoids as well as the Ouarzazate Group were generated during the post-collisional metacratonic evolution of the northern boundary of the West African craton. The convergence with the peri-Gondwanan active margin produced brittle fracturing of the cratonic boundary without thickening, allowing rising of magmas. The Tifnoute Valley granitoids display a metasomatized lithospheric mantle source mixed with a minor ancient (2 Ga) continental crust component from the underlying WAC.  相似文献

This study deals with the origin of igneous layering in plutons, and, especially, the extent layering is related to mafic–silicic magma interactions. The Budduso pluton (Sardinia) shows three main scales of organization.(i) Large scale lithological variations correspond to three main magmatic units, with differentiation increasing from the Outer (hornblende-bearing biotite granodiorite/monzogranite) to the Middle (biotite monzogranite) and the Inner (leucomonzogranite) units. The striking homogeneity of 87Sr/86Sr initial ratios (0.7090 ± 4) and εNd(t) values (− 5.6 ± 0.1) strongly suggests that magma isotopic equilibration was achieved prior to emplacement, whereas mixing/mingling structures observed within the pluton reflect second-stage processes involving broadly cogenetic components.(ii) Metre to decametre-scale igneous layering may be isomodal or modally-graded, locally with cross-layering. Biotite and plagioclase compositions are similar in both biotite-rich and quartzofeldspathic layers, as are the trace-element patterns which differ only by relative abundances. This precludes an origin by fractional crystallization. A penetrative submagmatic fabric superimposed on the layering and corresponding mainly to flattening can be ascribed to interference between pluton growth and regional deformation.(iii) Composite layering and schlieren are commonly associated to mafic microgranular enclaves, locally within synmagmatic shear zones or disrupted synplutonic dykes. In that case, there is a progressive shift in biotite XFe values from the core of enclave ( 0.65) to the host monzogranite ( 0.72): schlieren in the monzogranite show biotite XFe values similar to that of the host rock, whereas schlieren close to mafic enclaves show lower XFe values ( 0.69) towards those of enclave rims. These features can be ascribed to three main processes: (i) assembly of differentiated (± mixed/mingled) magmatic pulses; (ii) local hydrodynamic sorting related to density currents in a mush, and segregation of residual melt; (iii) mechanical disruption and chemical hybridization of mafic magmas during ascent or within the pluton related to magma dynamics. None of these processes affect the whole pluton but they are limited to specific magmatic units. Therefore, pluton growth by incremental assembly of magma batches is not incompatible with magma chamber processes.  相似文献

El Hammam is the only fluorite mine in Morocco (production 100,000 t/year). The fluorite mineralization is in an array of fluorite–calcite veins and is characterized by unusually high REE content in carbonate minerals (1,400 ppm in calcite; up to 2,000 ppm in siderite) and in fluorite (about 600 ppm). Since the 1960s, the genesis of the deposit has been attributed to a mesothermal hydrothermal event connected with late-Variscan granitic intrusions. Precise 40Ar/39Ar dating of hydrothermal K-feldspar yields an age of formation of the El Hammam deposit at 205 ± 1 Ma. Its genesis is therefore associated in time and space with the development of the Triassic–Jurassic basins and the associated anorogenic continental flood basalts of the Moroccan Mesetian Middle Atlas. The source of the hydrothermal mineralization (magmatic and/or metamorphic) is discussed.  相似文献

The world-class Imiter silver deposit, in the Anti-Atlas Mountains of Morocco, is a Neoproterozoic epithermal vein deposit genetically associated with a felsic volcanic event, and formed within a regional extensional tectonic regime. Rhyolitic volcanism related to ore formation has been dated at 550Dž Ma by ion-probe U/Pb on zircons. The economic silver mineralization is superimposed on an older, discrete base-metal assemblage associated with calc-alkaline granodioritic magmatism. The magmatism is dated at 572LJ Ma by ion-probe U/Pb dating on zircons, and by 40Ar/39Ar dating on hydrothermal muscovites. In the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the Precambrian-Cambrian transition appears as an important period for the formation of major, productive precious-metal deposits associated with volcanic events and extensional tectonics. The Imiter silver deposit constitutes a Precambrian analogue to modern epithermal deposits.  相似文献

Sulphurous thermal springs account for a few percent of all thermal springs. As each degree of oxidation of elemental S corresponds to a different S species, sulphurous spring waters may contain a variety of S species. Total S content is one of the parameters measured when analysis is carried out for issuing a spa’s operating licence. Under French law these parameters must be stable over time. The two spas in Aix-les-Bains are fed by a number of natural springs and boreholes, whose waters have total reduced S concentrations of between 30 and 800 mg L−1. To ensure compliance with the requirements of the spas’ operating licences, particularly in terms of total reduced S content, official analysis of the waters is carried out every month at random dates and times. Monthly analyses have revealed seasonal variations in the S content of some of Aix-les-Bains’ springs; therefore, more frequent monitoring was carried out in order to investigate the extent and causes of these fluctuations. As well as seasonal variations, this monitoring has revealed daily and hourly fluctuations that appear to be related to extraction rates. For some of the springs and boreholes, S concentrations were correlated with extraction rates; for others, an increase in extraction rate led to a reduction in total S content. Concentrations of sulphide ions (one of the species included in the total sulphur analyses) were monitored at the same time as the total S content. Variations in sulphide ion concentrations and in sulphide concentration/total S ratios did not appear to be linked to variations in flow rate. These tests show that random monthly testing is not suitable for monitoring the stability of S contents, as this parameter can only be considered stable in terms of its yearly mean value.  相似文献
