The groundwater hydrogeology of southern Tunisia emphasizes two main groundwater bodies so-called Zeuss-Koutine and south Gabes. These groundwater bodies yielding economically important storage of useful water present complex internal architecture and heterogeneity allowing exchange flows throughout permeable or/and fractured bodies. A geophysical survey using resistivity soundings was carried out along this area to describe in detail the field structure and the 3D extent of these groundwater bodies by the hydrogeological new data and detailed subsurface mapping based on resistivity sounding and seismic data. This survey discusses also the potentialities of some permeable layer in water storage and purposes potential favorable areas for optimum groundwater mining.  相似文献

Studies on ostracofauna gathered from the Middle–Late Eocene outcropping series of Jebel Bargou anticline, central Tunisia and from an offshore well in the Pelagian Shelf (ABR1) allowed to date major biostratigraphic limits and contribute to improve the precision on the present Eocene biozonation scheme based specially on the planktonic foraminifera markers. Paleogeographic and paleoecological interpretation was derived from an analysis of 60 ostracod species belonging to 38 genera coupled to lithostratigraphic facies interpretation. Ostracods associations indicate an evident similarity between the studied sections with circalittoral taxonomic dominance. In large scale, the ostracofauna recognized in the studied sections shows plentiful similarities with those of Northern Africa and the Middle East regions (Libya, Mauritania, Egypt, Jordan, and Sicilia). The similarities with the genera from Nigeria, Ghana, and Togo are rare and totally absent with those of European margin. Accordingly, during the Middle to Late Eocene, marine connection is evident between Northern Africa and the Middle East, probable between Northern Africa and eastern Africa and totally absent between Northern Africa and European margin because ostracods similarities are absent between European and Tunisian ostracods we were identified except some cosmopolitan forms.  相似文献

The mineral water deposits in Kiseljak are located in the central Dinarids, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the southwestern edge of Sarajevo–Zenica basin that was formed in the zone of Busova?a fault. Busova?a fault reaches deep into the Earth’s crust and is characterised by the presence of mineral and thermomineral water enriched with CO2 and CO2 springs (mofetes) in the direction of Ilid?a–Kiseljak–Busova?a. Deposits are constructed of layers of Palaeozoic to Cretaceous age. Primary aquifer of mineral waters is Permian clastites and evaporites and secondary Anisian carbonates. Mineral water and CO2 are of different origin. The water is of atmospheric origin. Due to slow circulation, water descends in the primary aquifer where it becomes enriched with CO2 and minerals. Due to high pressure in the primary aquifer mineral water ascends along Busova?a fault, mounts into the secondary aquifer and rises at spring sources. Water is a mixture of two or more waters of different mineralization. Mixing of water occurs in the zone of secondary aquifer even at greater depths without the influence of contemporary climatic factors. Intensive water mixing is indicated by the high ratio of Ca/Sr, Na/Cl and Ca/SO4 and the mixing diagram. CO2 is thermometamorphic, arising from the catalytic activity of SiO2 on carbonates in the deeper layers of the Earth’s crust, where quartz porphyry broke through Palaeozoic formations.  相似文献

Geological and geoseismic profiles and well data gathered with field observations from the Atlasic Chain in central Tunisia highlight folded structures, tectonic events, and significant faults. These events controlled basin formation and evolution during successive Mesozoic extensional phases, followed by the tectonic inversion during the Atlasic Orogeny known on a Tethyan scale. The Cretaceous extension is well recorded through deposition, which supplied the normal faults system and influenced sediment distribution and regional subsidence. The major event is the normal slip of the principle inherited fault during the Cretaceous subsidence. The northwestern blocks, which are north of the faults of Mrhila–Trozza–Cherichira and Ballouta and west of the NS axis, correspond to continually subsiding areas of the Upper Cretaceous series. Subsequent faulting reactivated compressional structures such as strike-slips, reverse, and thrust faults during the Tertiary Orogeny which largely affected the Tunisian Atlasic domain. Geological profiles point out the evidence of the Upper Cretaceous emersion of the central Tunisia domain and lateral thickness variation of the series from Jurassic to Quaternary, unconformities, and halokinesis movement.  相似文献

The Gafsa and Chotts intracratonic basins in south-central Tunisia are transitional zones between the Atlasic domain to the north and the Saharan platform to the south. The principal aim of this paper is to unravel the geodynamic evolution of these basins following an integrated approach including seismic, well log and gravity data. These data are used to highlight the tectonic control on the deposition of Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous series and to discuss the role of the main faults that controlled the basin architecture and Cretaceous–Tertiary inversion. The horizontal gravity gradient map of the study area highlights the pattern of discontinuities within the two basins and reveals the presence of deep E–W basement faults. Primary attention is given to the role played by the E–W faults system and that of the NW–SE Gafsa fault which was previously considered active since the Jurassic. Facies and thickness analyses based on new seismic interpretation and well data suggest that the E–W-oriented faults controlled the subsidence distribution especially during the Jurassic. The NW–SE faults seem to be key structures that controlled the basins paleogeography during Late Cretaceous–Cenozoic time. The upper Triassic evaporite bodies, which locally outline the main NW–SE Gafsa fault, are regarded as intrusive salt bodies rather than early diapiric extrusions as previously interpreted since they are rare and occurred only along main strike-slip faults. In addition, seismic lines show that Triassic rocks are deep and do not exhibit true diapiric features.  相似文献

An integrated hydrogeological investigation involving geological surface data, well data (lithostratigraphical and piezometric data) and the vertical electrical sounding (VES) method was carried out in Tataouine area, Southern Tunisia to characterize the hydrogeology and the geochemistry of the Krachoua Formation aquifer. The electrical data were used to differentiate lithostratigraphic units and characterize their hydrogeological potentialities. Major elements contents within groundwater samples were assessed and some plots and diagrams have been established in order to investigate the hydrochemical properties of this aquifer and the origin of its mineralization. The Krachoua aquifer exhibits a general drawdown of the piezometric level from 2004 to 2015 reflecting a dramatic decrease in groundwater resources due to increased groundwater abstraction during the last decades. Flow directions shows that the recharge of this aquifer considered as a free aquifer is directly ensured by rainfalls over the outcropping fractured limestones. The geometry of the Krachoua Formation aquifer is tectonically controlled and structured in horst and graben features that impacted greatly the hydrogeology and the hydrodynamics of the area. Subsequent thickness and facies variations within this aquifer influenced the reservoir quality and the groundwater flows. The increased values of salinity to the northwest of the study area seems to be mainly related to the dissolution of the Upper Liassic gypsum of Mestaoua Formation which outcrops widely and can be dissolute easily by meteoric water and contaminate the Krachoua aquifer. This fact is also supported by the sulfated and calci-magnesian chloride facies of this aquifer related to the dissolution of evaporitic rocks (gypsum, anhydrite, and halite). However low salinity values are recorded within the zone where these evaporitic rocks are relatively deep.  相似文献
