The study of wave propagation in finite/infinite media has many applications in geotechnical and structural earthquake engineering and has been a focus of research for the past few decades. This paper presents an analysis of 2D anti- plane problems (Love waves) and 2D in-plane problems (Rayleigh waves) in the frequency domain in media consisting of a near-field irregular and a far-field regular part. The near field part may contain structures and its boundaries with the far-field can be of any shape. In this study, the irregular boundaries of the near-field are treated as consistent boundaries, extending the concept of Lysmer's vertical consistent boundaries. The presented technique is called the Condensed Hyperelements Method (CHM). In this method, the irregular boundary is limited to a vertical boundary at each end that is a consistent boundary at the far-field side. Between the two ends, the medium is discretized with hyperelements. Using static condensation, the stiffness matrix of the far-field is derived for the nodes on the irregular boundary. Examples of the application of the CHM illustrate its excellent accuracy and efficiency.  相似文献

A buried pipe extends over long distances and passes through soils with different properties. In the event of an earthquake, the same pipe experiences a variable ground motion along its length. At bends, geometrically a more complicated problem exists where seismic waves propagating in a certain direction affect pipe before and after bend differently. Studying these different effects is the subject of this paper. Two variants for modeling of pipe, a beam model and a beam-shell hybrid model are examined. The surrounding soil is modeled with the conventional springs in both models. A suitable boundary condition is introduced at the ends of the system to simulate the far field. Effects of angle of incidence in the horizontal and vertical planes, angle of pipe bend, soil type, diameter to thickness ratio, and burial depth ratio on pipe strains at bend are examined thoroughly. It is concluded that extensional strains are highest at bends and these strains increase with the angle of incidence with the vertical axis. The pipe strains attain their peaks when pipe bend is around $135^{\circ }$ and exceed the elastic limit in certain cases especially in stiffer soils, but remain below the rupture limit. Then equations for predicting the seismic response of the buried pipe at bend are developed using the analytical data calculated above and regression analysis. It is shown that these semi-analytical equations predict the response with very good accuracy saving much time and effort.  相似文献

The drift pushover analysis method for tall and regular buildings is extended in this paper to the third dimension. The focus of study is on the structures with important torsional response. For this purpose, 10, 15, 20 and 30-story steel moment frame buildings having unsymmetrical plans with 5–30% eccentricity ratios are studied. For evaluation of accuracy, nonlinear dynamic response of the buildings is determined under a consistent suit of earthquake ground motions. The maxima of the story drifts and shears and cumulative plastic hinge rotations of stories are calculated under the ground motions and their averages along with those of the modal pushover procedure are compared with the results of the presented method. The comparative analysis establishes the good accuracy of the three dimensional drift pushover method.  相似文献

Elastic response spectra that take into account the effects of soil-structure interaction on soft soils are developed. The response spectra are calculated utilizing a 3 DOF system including deformations of the superstructure and foundation. The equations of motion of the system are solved using direct integration under normalized earthquake records. Statistical processing of the results is implemented resulting in response spectra for "short and dense buildings with low interaction", "short and dense buildings with high interaction", "tall and light buildings with low interaction" and "tall and light buildings with high interaction". The resulting response spectra are smoothed and discussed.  相似文献

Usually for modeling of soil in a direct soil–structure interaction (SSI) problem, the equivalent linear soil properties are used. However, this approach is not valid in the vicinity of a foundation, where the soil experiences large strains and a high level of nonlinearity because of structural vibrations. The near-field method was developed and described in a companion paper to overcome this limitation. This method considers the effects of large strains and suggests a shear modulus and a damping ratio further modified in the near-field of a foundation. Validity and performance of this approach are evaluated, application examples are explained and the results of a parametric study about the role of soil and structure parameters in the extent of SSI effects on the nonlinear seismic response of structures are presented in this paper. One real existing and five, ten, fifteen and twenty story moment-resisting frame steel buildings with two different site conditions corresponding to firm and soft soils are considered and the responses obtained from the near-field method are compared with the recorded and rigorous responses. Moreover, various SSI modeling techniques are employed to investigate the accuracy and performance of each approach. The results show that the near-field method is a simple yet accurate enough approach for analysis of direct SSI problems.  相似文献

In this study a new method for nonlinear static analysis based on the relative displacements of stories is proposed that is able to be implemented in a single stage analysis and considers the effects of an arbitrary number of higher modes. The method is called the extended drift pushover analysis procedure (EDPA). To define the lateral load pattern, values of the relative displacements of stories are calculated using the elastic modal analysis and the modal combination factors introduced. For determining the combination factors, six different approaches are examined. Buildings evaluated in this study consist of four special steel moment-resisting frames with 10–30 stories. Responses including relative displacements of stories, story shear forces and rotation of plastic hinges in each story are calculated using the proposed approaches in addition to modal pushover analysis and nonlinear dynamic time history analyses. The nonlinear dynamic analysis is implemented using ten consistent earthquake records that have been scaled with regard to ASCE7-10. Distribution of response errors of story shears and plastic hinge rotations show that a major part of error corresponds to the second half of the buildings studied. Thus, the mentioned responses are corrected systematically. The final results of this study show that implementing the EDPA procedure using the third approach of this research is able to effectively overcome the limitations of both the traditional and the modal pushover analyses methods and predict the seismic demands of tall buildings with good accuracy.  相似文献

This paper presents a new direct modeling approach to analyze 3D dynamic SSI systems including building structures resting on shallow spread foundations. The direct method consists of modeling the superstructure and the underlying soil domain. Using a reduced shear modulus and an increased damping ratio resulted from an equivalent linear free-field analysis is a traditional approach for simulating behavior of the soil medium. However, this method is not accurate enough in the vicinity of foundation, or the near-field domain, where the soil experiences large strains and the behavior is highly nonlinear. This research proposes new modulus degradation and damping augmentation curves for using in the near-field zone in order to obtain more accurate results with the equivalent linear method. The mentioned values are presented as functions of dimensionless parameters controlling nonlinear behavior in the near-field zone. This paper summarizes the semi-analytical methodology of the proposed modified equivalent linear procedure. The numerical implementation and examples are given in a companion paper.  相似文献

In this study, the seismic stability of arch dam abutments is investigated within the framework of the probabilistic method. A large concrete arch dam is considered with six wedges for each abutment. The seismic safety of the dam abutments is studied with quasi-static analysis for different hazard levels. The Londe limit equilibrium method is utilized to calculate the stability of the wedges in the abutments. Since the finite element method is time-consuming, the neural network is used as an alternative for calculating the wedge safety factor. For training the neural network, 1000 random samples are generated and the dam response is calculated. The direction of applied acceleration is changed within 5-degree intervals to reveal the critical direction corresponding to the minimum safety factor. The Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) is employed for sample generation, and the safety level is determined with reliability analysis. Three sample numbers of 1000, 2000 and 4000 are used to examine the average and standard deviation of the results. The global sensitivity analysis is used to identify the effects of random variables on the abutment stability. It is shown that friction, cohesion and uplift pressure have the most significant effects on the wedge stability variance.

A new remedy is proposed in this study to increase the ductility of cross-braced frames to a level comparable with ductile moment frames. The suggested system consists of one or two concentric steel rings installed in the cross-braced bay vertically. The steel rings are designed such that they fail in bending sooner than failure of the braces in compression. Then the rings act as seismic fuses with multiple bending plastic hinges. Using nonlinear static analysis, it is shown that the proposed system can be designed to behave like cross-braced frames with regard to stiffness and strength, and like special moment frames with regard to ductility. Seismic design factors for the proposed system are recommended based on nonlinear pushover and cyclic analysis studies.
