In this article the air pollution potential of Visakhapatnam city is studied using data from 1958 to 1967.The main result is that winter and the pre-monsoon season are not favourable for dispersion of pollutants and it is suggested that the discharge of pollutants should be kept to a minimum in those two seasons.  相似文献

Monthly mean afternoon (maximum) and early morning (minimum) mixing heights have been calculated for the winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons for eleven stations in India, with the assumption of a dry adiabatic lapse rate in the mixing layer. The morning mixing heights have been calculated by adding +5 °C to the surface minimum temperature except for the monsoon season for which a value of +3 °C has been utilized to account for the urban heat island effect. The spatial variation of mean maximum mixing heights over India has also been studied by isopleth analysis. The morning and afternoon ventilation coefficients have been calculated for the eleven stations under consideration. The spatial distribution of afternoon ventilation coefficients has also been studied. The optimum siting industries to minimize our pollution has been discussed.  相似文献

The paper presents the results from model scale experiments on the study of forces in the moorings of horizontally interlaced, multi-layered, moored floating pipe breakwaters. The studies are conducted with breakwater models having three layers subjected to waves of steepness Hi/L (Hi is the incident wave height and L the wavelength) varying from 0.0066 to 0.0464, relative width W/L (W is the width of breakwater) varying from 0.4 to 2.65, and relative spacing S/D (S is the spacing of pipes and D the diameter of pipe) of 2 and 4. The variation of measured normalized mooring forces on the seaward side and leeward side are analyzed by plotting non-dimensional graphs depicting f/γW2 (f is the force in the mooring per unit length of the breakwater, γ the weight density of sea water) as a function W/L for various values of Hi/d (d is the depth of water). It is found that the force in the seaward side mooring increases with an increase in Hi/L for d/W values ranging between 0.081 and 0.276. The experimental results also reveal that the forces in the seaward side mooring decrease as W/L increases, up to a value of W/L=1.3, and then increases with an increase in W/L. It is also observed that the wave attenuation characteristics of breakwater model with relative spacing of 4 is better than that of the model with relative spacing of 2. The maximum force in the seaward side mooring for model with S/D=4 is lower compared to that for the breakwater model with S/D=2. A multivariate non-linear regression analysis has been carried out for the data on mooring forces for the seaside and leeside.  相似文献

Temperature and wind data are used to describe variation in the strength of the Monsoon Low Level Jet (MLLJ) from an active phase of the monsoon to a break phase. Also estimated are the characteristics of turbulence above and below MLLJ.  相似文献

The city of Mangalore is situated at the confluence of rivers Gurpur and Netravati. Two spits are formed in this area, i.e., northern spit of “Bengre” and the southern spit of “Ullal” as the rivers flow close and parallel to the seashore for some distance. The spits have been subjected to constant geomorphological changes in length, width, position, accretion and erosion patterns etc., for the past several decades. A seawall was constructed in 1984 around the tip of Bengre spit and another one along the shoreline of Ullal spit in 1987, by the Government of Karnataka in order to prevent the spits from being eroded. Two breakwaters were also constructed in 1992 near the estuarine mouth as part of the development of old Mangalore Port. The paper presents the results of a study undertaken to identify the geomorphologic changes that occurred in the area, using 1RS-1A/1C data for the years of 1988, 1994. 1996. The study clearly demonstrated that the 1RS data could be effectively utilized for monitoring the geodynamics of an area. It was observed that the spits were highly unstable earlier. However, the construction of seawalls was helpful in arresting the migration of the estuarine mouth and in stabilizing the spits against coastal erosion.  相似文献

The authors have studied the seasonal variation of Σθ (the standard deviation of wind direction fluctuations) vs Pasquill stabilities over complex terrain. It is found that the values of Σθ are quite high in the month of April in contrast with other months. Values are also high when compared with those estimated over flat terrain and at a coastal site.  相似文献

Monthly mean measurements of surface temperature, albedo and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of NOAA AVHRR are processed for Maharashtra. These data are used in combination with monthly average surface meteorological observations in a surface energy balance model to estimate monthly mean actual evapotranspiration (AET) from different climatic zones of Maharasthra,. India. AET is estimated between April and December months for two contrasting monsoons in 1992 and 1995. Estimates reasonably agree with pan evaporation data during growing season and with AET estimated from water balance procedure. AET is low in semi-arid dry land areas of central Maharashtra and significantly high in the humid-perhumid western ghat region and subhumid eastern Maharashtra region. The modeled evapotranspiration show the influence of seasonal vegetation in different climatic zones from the region. The method can be used to obtain large-scale evapotranspiration with minimum ground observations.  相似文献

Pan-sharpening is the process of transferring the spatial resolution of panchromatic (PAN) image to a multispectral (MS) image for producing a single image with high spatial detail and rich spectral information. In this study, PAN and MS imagery of Quickbird-2 and Landsat-8 are fused separately, using ten different pan-sharpening methods such as principal component analysis (PCA), modified-intensity hue saturation (M-IHS), multiplicative, brovey transform (BT), wavelet-principal component analysis (W-PCA), hyperspectral color space (HCS), high-pass filter (HPF), Gram-Schmidt (GS), Fuze Go, and non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT). The effectiveness of these techniques is assessed and compared by qualitative analysis and 14 quantitative analysis methods including bias, correlation coefficient (CC), difference in variance (DIV), relative dimensionless global error in synthesis (ERGAS), universal image quality index (Q), relative average spectral error (RASE), root mean square error (RMSE), structural similarity index method (SSIM), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), peak SNR (PSNR), spatial correlation coefficient (SCC), image entropy (E), and gradient and quality with no reference image (QNR). The results of both analysis types show that the Fuze Go and NSCT produced the best fused image with high spatial detail and rich spectral information followed by the HPF and GS.  相似文献
