For many geographers, the printed page is no longer a productive tool to engage contemporary definitions of place or debates surrounding the nonrepresentational. There is a discernible shift within the discipline toward creative research methods, including using media such as film or sound, with a perception that they are less “fixed” in nature. In this article, however, I suggest that, by developing “geo/graphic” work that draws on theories and practices from both cultural geography and graphic design, the page can be recast as a liminal space, a threshold between readers and their understanding and imagination. I propose that a book has the potential to offer a multisensory, interactive space of exploration for readers and that the construction of such geo/graphic work also offers researchers an additional creative method with which to understand place.  相似文献

A new method is illustrated for describing the characteristics of urban pattern changes over different time periods. This method employs vector geometry, paired centroids, shared boundary lines, and overlain polygons. Three new statistics are proposed for characterizing local polygon feature changes in quantity, shape, and size. These statistics are standardized, based on conventional theories from urban geography such as directional concentric zones and user‐designated corridors to document both regional and global patterns of land‐use change. This method is used to analyse land‐use changes in metropolitan Detroit between 1990 and 2000. The Detroit case study indicates that the CTSPA statistics are effective in describing urban spatial pattern changes and in characterizing the evolution of discrete urban landscapes over selected periods.  相似文献

Facility placement and associated service coverage are major concerns in urban and regional planning. In this paper an approach is detailed for the problem of covering spatial demand for service, where potential facilities are located in the continuous plane. It is shown that weighted demand, represented as points, lines or polygons, can be optimally served by a finite number of potential facility locations, called the polygon intersection point set (PIPS). The developed approach is an extension of a point‐based abstraction of demand to more general representations (e.g. points, lines or polygons). An empirical analysis of warning siren siting in Ohio is carried out, highlighting the applicability of this approach.  相似文献

From a single-attribute raster layer in which each cell is assigned a numerical value, a connected set of a specified number of cells that has the maximum (or minimum) total value is selected. This is a highly common decision problem in the context of raster-based geographic information systems (GIS) and seems general enough to deserve inclusion in the standard functionality of such systems. Yet it is a computationally difficult optimization problem, for which no efficient exact solution method has been found. This article presents a new dynamic programming-based heuristic method for the problem. Its performance is tested with randomly generated raster layers with various degrees of spatial autocorrelation. Results suggest that the proposed heuristic is a promising alternative to the existing integer programming-based exact method, as it can handle significantly larger raster data with fair accuracy.  相似文献

Technological advances in position‐aware devices are leading to a wealth of data documenting motion. The integration of spatio‐temporal data‐mining techniques in GIScience is an important research field to overcome the limitations of static Geographic Information Systems with respect to the emerging volumes of data describing dynamics. This paper presents a generic geographic knowledge discovery approach for exploring the motion of moving point objects, the prime modelling construct to represent GPS tracked animals, people, or vehicles. The approach is based on the concept of geospatial lifelines and presents a formalism for describing different types of lifeline patterns that are generalizable for many application domains. Such lifeline patterns allow the identification and quantification of remarkable individual motion behaviour, events of distinct group motion behaviour, so as to relate the motion of individuals to groups. An application prototype featuring novel data‐mining algorithms has been implemented and tested with two case studies: tracked soccer players and data points representing political entities moving in an abstract ideological space. In both case studies, a set of non‐trivial and meaningful motion patterns could be identified, for instance highlighting the characteristic ‘offside trap’ behaviour in the first case and identifying trendsetting districts anticipating a political transformation in the latter case.  相似文献

A common problem in location-allocation modeling is the error associated with the representation and scale of demand. Numerous researchers have investigated aggregation errors associated with using different scaled data, and more recently, error associated with the geographic representation of model objects has also been studied. For covering problems, the validity of using polygon centroid representations of demand has been questioned by researchers, but the alternative has been to assume that demand is uniformly distributed within areal units. The spatial heterogeneity of demand within areal units thus has been modeled using one of two extremes – demand is completely concentrated at one location or demand is uniformly distributed. This article proposes using intelligent areal interpolation and geographic information systems to model the spatial heterogeneity of demand within spatial units when solving the maximal covering location problem. The results are compared against representations that assume demand is either concentrated at centroids or uniformly distributed. Using measures of scale and representation error, preliminary results from the test study indicate that for smaller scale data, representation has a substantial impact on model error whereas at larger scales, model error is not that different for the alternative representations of the distribution of demand within areal units.  相似文献

由于大天区面积多目标光纤光谱天文望远镜(LAMOST)系统非常复杂,系统研制的时间比较长,系统建成后有相当长的使用年限,就要求观测控制系统(OCS)有足够长的生命周期(使用、维护及升级),可扩展性和良好的可维护性,因此系统需要一个合理健全、内在一致的体系结构。根据OCS的建模和体系结构的概念,在对OCS建模及参考各种体系结构模式的基础上完成了基于构件的层状的OCS系统体系构架,融合了MVC,代理等体系结构模式。详细讨论了OCS体系结构的静态模型和动态模型,并在OCS的1级系统实现了此体系结构。  相似文献

布局是VLSI物理设计的关键环节,采用了O-TREE的编码表示方法来解决在超大规模集成电路布局中,具有预定义坐标结群约束模块的布局问题(简称PCA问题)。目前,存在一些成功的算法来解决PCA问题,然而,它们的算法有些复杂,有些耗时。由此提出了一种新的布局算法来解决这个问题,该算法是基于O-TREE结构,旨在减少总的运行时间且简便。通过对MCNC的标准例子ami33和ami49上仿真实验表明:与参考文献5提到的结果相比,新算法是可行的并且很有效。它不仅使芯片面积利用率得到改善,而且节约了一半以上的时间开销。  相似文献
